Chapter Thirty-Two: A Difficult Situation

Consort Hui knows what's important and won't act impulsively and kick Consort Rong out!

Consort Rong smiled and replied, "I thought my elder sister had some kind of problem with me!"

The two of them exchanged sarcastic remarks before finally getting down to business!

Consort Rong: "Sister, you must know why I've come! I wonder what you're thinking?"

Consort Hui said in an unfriendly tone, "What can you think? That girl in Yongshou Palace is too arrogant. It's one thing for the Emperor to favor her, but why should she be given such honors by the Emperor? Even the Empress Dowager didn't get these benefits, but she's enjoying them first..."

Consort Hui had been complaining for so long without saying what she planned to do. Consort Rong knew that Consort Hui was doing it on purpose, and said impatiently, "Sister knows, so please tell me what you plan to do, and I will do my best to cooperate!"

When Consort Hui saw Consort Rong make a promise, she said, "Sister has already sent a letter to her family. I hope you can send a letter too. Consort Xian is too ignorant of etiquette. She is so arrogant because she is favored by the Emperor. She has better status than the Empress Dowager. She is simply a wicked concubine who brings disaster to the country!"

Consort Rong understands! Regardless of the truth of the matter, the point is to pin this huge accusation on Consort Xian!

Consort Hui's family is no less powerful than Consort Yunrong's, and Consort Rong's family is also very influential! If their families were to incite some of the concubines who are left alone in the palace, their families, including their own, would be a considerable force in the court!

In just a few words, the two finalized their plan to deal with Yunrong, and then they began to incite the concubines in the harem! From the eleventh year of Kangxi's reign until now, the emperor had not touched a single woman, so it was impossible for these women not to have any complaints!

They were already seething with resentment, but they had no choice but to suffer in silence because of the emperor's power! Consort Xian was an exception, at least in their eyes. After all, for a long time the emperor only went to Yongshou Palace to spend the night and didn't go anywhere else, which meant a lot!

They were burning with jealousy, but Yongshou Palace was too secure, and they had no way to infiltrate it. Now that Consort Hui and Consort Rong were leading the way, their jealous hearts were immediately reignited!

They quickly became a considerable force!

They not only instigated the concubines, but also went to the Empress Dowager, giving her various hints about how Consort Xian was unruly, how she monopolized the Emperor's affections, and how she managed to get the Emperor to grant special privileges only to Yongshou Palace...

The Empress Dowager was an old Mongolian woman who had left her hometown to come to the Forbidden City. Emperor Shunzhi disliked her in every way. Now that Shunzhi was gone, her good days had not lasted long, and she did not want to offend the Emperor!

She knows her own limitations perfectly well! The Emperor is filial to her, but that's because she's honest and doesn't interfere in affairs. The Emperor is happy to have her as the most filial person, so it's a mutually beneficial arrangement between them!

The Empress Dowager turned a blind eye to the two women's provocations. In any case, everyone in the harem knew that she was ignorant of worldly affairs. She pretended not to understand what they meant, and no one dared to make things difficult for her!

Although Consort Hui and Consort Rong felt it was a pity they hadn't managed to win over the Empress Dowager, they had still managed to win over quite a few people! They were quite satisfied!

Unbeknownst to Yunrong, most of the women in the harem united to bring her down. The fact that so many women with conflicting opinions could unite shows that Yunrong is quite capable!

Since the incidents involving Empress Shu, Consort Shu, and the Empress Dowager, Yinzhen has tightened his control over the harem. Although Consort Hui and Consort Rong's actions seemed secretive, their impact was quite wide, and Yinzhen soon found out about them!

Yinzhen was not afraid of them. If their families dared to do anything, he would teach them a lesson!

According to the rules, the concubines in the harem were not willing to exchange messages with their maternal families in private. However, there were also unspoken rules, since the concubines needed money in the palace and also had things that were inconvenient for them to do and needed their maternal families to handle for them!

As for how to send messages without getting caught, that depends on individual skills!

Soon, many people outside the palace received messages from the palace that most of the women who were sent into the palace were carefully raised by their families and were favored!

Now that their own aunt has been "bullied" in the palace, they naturally cannot sit idly by!

Then we started taking action!

The women had no choice but to use their connections to deal with the imperial concubines and ask them to speak to the Empress Dowager in the palace. They argued that Consort Xian was only a concubine, yet her expenses were on par with the Emperor's, which was going too far!

I don't know how it got spread, but it ended up being said that Yunrong's expenses were on the same level as the Emperor's, when all she had was electricity!

Those imperial wives were all from prominent families. Due to their kinship ties, some were close and some were distant, and eventually, some of them were persuaded!

Then things suddenly became very noisy at the Empress Dowager's place! Many members of the imperial family and their wives came to complain, and their power was considerable. In the end, the Empress Dowager had no choice but to leave them with no option!

Empress Dowager: "I don't usually handle affairs, so I don't know anything about these things. How come you all make it sound like the Emperor has mistreated me? As for what happened in Consort Xian's palace, I've heard about it too. It's nothing serious! Yongshou Palace is close to Qianqing Palace. I just happened to be blessed there. You're exaggerating!"

One of the prince's wives said, "What the Empress Dowager says makes sense, but why would the Emperor suddenly want to put electricity on Yongshou Palace for no reason? I've heard that electric lights are a good thing; the entire Qianqing Palace and Yongshou Palace are brightly lit at night. It must be Consort Xian who coaxed the Emperor into doing this! Consort Xian is unfit to be a good wife! Your Majesty should discipline her!"

The Empress Dowager didn't want to get involved at all. She had lived to this age, and the Emperor had treated her well, so why should she care about those things?

She goes to bed early, so using a candle when she gets up at night is fine! Besides, the emperor said that electric lights will be used throughout the palace; it's just a matter of time!
