Chapter Twelve: The Substitute Plot

Yunrong and the other candidates who were registered were once again kept in the palace for observation. There were only eight candidates registered, and these eight were indeed outstanding, either from good families or with outstanding appearances!

During the second round of selection, although a number of women were eliminated by the harem and other women from the same year, some who acted cautiously were always left behind!

Because there were fewer people this time, each person could have their own room, and a young palace maid was sent to serve the daily needs of the selected ladies!

When the Fucha family learned that Yunrong had been registered, they were all in a panic. Lady Wuya almost went to the imperial concubine who had given her gifts. They had agreed that she would give gifts and Yunrong would contribute her efforts, but in the end, her daughter was still kept on the list and even registered!

Uya was eventually persuaded to stop by the nanny beside her!

Granny Wu: "My lady, the matter is already settled. It's no use going to anyone you can, unless the Emperor can show mercy!"

Uya knew that what the nanny said was right, but she was so angry! She had nowhere to vent her anger and felt so stifled!

Now, Lady Wuya only hopes that the Emperor will be blind to his daughter's excellence and release her as soon as possible. Even marrying her off to a member of the imperial clan would be better than her entering the harem, a place that devours people without spitting out their bones!

Her daughter is so innocent, how could she possibly bear it!

Misihan was worried about everything. He couldn't very well go to the Emperor and say, "I don't like you, I don't want my daughter to be your woman, please release my daughter!" If he were to actually do that, the Emperor might just strip him of his official position and his daughter wouldn't get away with it!

Misihan and his wife had similar thoughts, hoping that the emperor was blind and would release their daughter from the palace!

The remaining young ladies-in-waiting in the palace had a much higher status; at least the matrons and eunuchs who taught them manners were very polite to them!

Yunrong has learned most of the rules and regulations, and she doesn't have any close friends. It's not that no one flatters her, but having come this far, naturally some people have seen Yunrong's potential!

Given Yunrong's family background and status, she will surely become the head of the palace in the future. Those whose families are not so good will naturally want to curry favor with her in advance so that they can have a backer in the future!

But Yunrong refused without making a sound!

Yunrong knew what they were thinking, but she found it boring. She had only traveled to the Qing Dynasty, not her mind!

Just like they said, even if she were to unfortunately remain, out of respect for her father, she would still hold a position as a empress. The emperor, to maintain balance in the court, wouldn't let her disappear quietly from the harem! Why bother doing those messy things!

Yunrong refused several times, which annoyed the young women. Although their family backgrounds were not good, they were talented and beautiful, and they felt that Yunrong looked down on them!

So, without Yunrong's knowledge, she gained a reputation for being aloof!

Yunrong was accompanied by a young palace maid, who was sent by the Imperial Household Department. Yunrong had heard Changchun and Granny Changyin say that the Imperial Household Department was a complex and intricate place, and that she should only believe three-tenths of what they said, but not completely disbelieve them either!

At first, Yunrong only asked this palace maid to do some trivial tasks. She took care of her personal belongings herself because she was afraid of causing trouble and didn't like to go out. So she simply let the palace maid tell her what she knew and didn't restrict her from saying anything!

Yunrong lived alone for two days before her family sent a message, telling her not to worry, to take things one step at a time, and that her family would always protect her!

Secondly, there was the little palace maid beside her. It was a letter from Granny Changchun that said the maid was her goddaughter and could be trusted!

Yunrong didn't want to be so wary of people, and seeing that the palace maid seemed trustworthy, she felt much more relaxed! Finally, her family sent her another sum of money, telling her to use it for personal matters and not to deprive herself!

It's nice to be cooped up in the room, but Yunrong can't stand it. It's too uncomfortable. There isn't even a book to pass the time! The needle and thread are all prepared, but Yunrong doesn't have much talent for needlework and doesn't like to touch it!

So Yinzhen received the news that Yunrong was bored. Yinzhen was in a good mood these past two days, and when he was in a good mood, he had a mischievous idea!

So, encouraged by the palace maid Hong'er, Yunrong decided to go out!

She lived in the Imperial Garden, and although one couldn't just wander around the Imperial Garden, there was a certain area where the young ladies-in-waiting could indeed come and go! Yunrong took Hong'er for a stroll in the Imperial Garden!

The weather in the Imperial Garden in August was just right, but it was a bit hot. Yunrong couldn't stand it after admiring the scenery for a while. Luckily, there was a pavilion in front of her, so she decided to go over and sit down to rest before going back!

As luck would have it, the pavilion was cleverly located, right on a corner! And there was a rockery next to it blocking the view!

Yinzhen emerged from the path behind the artificial hill. When Yunrong saw the man, she didn't even have time to leave!

Yinzhen was wearing ordinary clothes, but the style of clothing was only for the emperor!

Yinzhen walked into the pavilion. Yunrong kept her head down. The first thing she saw was Yinzhen's lower body clothing. Yunrong had been taught that this was clothing that only the emperor could wear!

Yunrong knelt down and greeted Your Majesty: "This servant greets Your Majesty! May Your Majesty enjoy boundless blessings and peace!"

Yinzhen: "Get up!"

Yunrong: "Thank you, Your Majesty!"

Yunrong then got up. When she dared to look, she was too far away to see clearly. And just now, she had been looking down and hadn't seen the emperor's face!

Yinzhen said in a deep voice, "Raise your head!"

Yunrong looked up and glanced at Yinzhen casually! Yunrong had a good memory, and with that one glance, she confirmed that Yinzhen was the man she had seen at Tantuo Temple!

Now she knew why she was still allowed to keep her nameplate despite her family's favors! It was all the emperor's fault!

Yunrong then recalled that he had said she looked like his old friend. Could it be that she was being used as a substitute?

Yunrong wondered to herself, could it be that she looked like the Emperor's beloved, and that the Emperor and his beloved were now separated by death or even death? Was she being used as a substitute?

Yunrong felt she had received an incredible script. Just because she hadn't watched many TV dramas didn't mean she hadn't seen any. This setup sounded just like the beginning of a heart-wrenching and intense romance!

Yunrong thought of that novel she'd read, "The Legend of XX," which was about a body double who entered the palace, was framed, suffered a miscarriage, was betrayed by her best friend, forced to become a nun, and finally turned evil and became the Empress Dowager! She even killed the emperor! Although she gained status, her experiences were truly tragic!

Yunrong was startled by her own overthinking, and then the way she looked at Yinzhen became strange! What a scumbag!

Yinzhen was unaware of Yunrong's overactive imagination. He noticed that Yunrong's gaze towards him was strange, but he simply assumed that Yunrong had recognized him!

Yinzhen smiled and said, "Princess Fucha recognized me!"

Fucha Yunrong: "His Majesty's heroic bearing is truly unforgettable!"

Yunrong cursed the emperor as a scumbag in her heart, but on the surface she remained very respectful and gentle, afraid of angering the emperor who held the power of life and death over her!

Seeing that Yunrong was very obedient and well-behaved, and that she was quite young, Yinzhen strangely felt the mindset of an old father. She's still a child! She was frightened by the palace's secrets back then, and she must have been frightened by him!

Yinzhen had no idea that the person in front of him had labeled him a scumbag!
