Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Empress is Poisoned

Consort Shu's illness came on so suddenly, and she had only been bedridden for a short time, yet she was already emaciated, weak, and in very poor condition!

Everyone else went to visit Consort Shu, and Yunrong couldn't be different, so she also went to see Consort Shu. Then Yunrong was frightened!

She wasn't someone who hadn't seen the world; she had been to hospitals before and seen many patients there. At the time, she only felt pity for them!

Seeing Consort Shu's current appearance, and then comparing it with her vibrant appearance before, is quite a shock!

Yunrong felt a pang of sorrow and discomfort. She knew that a cold couldn't have caused the two of them to suffer to this extent, but the imperial physicians couldn't cure it either, so Consort Shu could only endure it.

Consort Shu endured the torment of illness, harboring deep hatred for the Empress. She knew with her eyes closed who was responsible for torturing her to this extent, but unfortunately, she still couldn't figure out what had happened to her!

Consort Shu was filled with hatred and summoned her confidants to begin making arrangements. Since the Empress had been so ruthless, she wouldn't be surprised if she was ruthless in return!

If things hadn't come to this, she wouldn't have wanted a fight to the death. She shared the same idea as the Empress: if a legitimate strategy could bring down the other party, a conspiracy was a bad idea. Once the conspiracy was exposed, it would be a lose-lose situation!

Consort Shu was aware of her own body. She endured the pain and began to have her confidants organize the people she had in the palace. She was afraid that if she suddenly passed away, the Niohuru clan would be completely clueless when sending people into the palace in the future!

Consort Shu's "cold" stopped getting worse after it reached a certain point, but the imperial physician said that she needed to rest and recuperate properly!

Consort Shu had arranged everything in the palace, sent a letter home, and then began to mobilize manpower!

Consort Shu has a loophole that the Empress can exploit, and naturally, the Empress won't be completely without flaws either! Consort Shu is a very decisive person; unlike the Empress, she doesn't slowly torment her with her anger!

Consort Shu went straight for the kill, and then the Empress suddenly fainted. The imperial physician found out that she had been poisoned, and that the poison had already damaged her very foundation, making her incurable!

When Yinzhen received the news that the Empress had been poisoned, he was also somewhat bewildered. He had been quite busy lately, and Liang Jiugong, seeing how busy he was, did not dare to disturb his official duties. He only knew that Consort Shu seemed to have a particularly severe cold, but he never expected that the Empress had actually been poisoned!

He had no feelings for the Empress, but she was, after all, the Empress of the country, and if something happened to her, it was a big deal!

Especially since it happened due to poisoning, doesn't that mean his harem is unstable? Yinzhen went to the Empress's place in person and saw that she was not very strong. Yinzhen had already heard from the imperial physician that the Empress probably didn't have many days left, at most a month!

Since it concerned the nation's reputation, Yinzhen ordered a thorough investigation! And it wasn't just Yinzhen investigating; the Empress herself was also investigating!

The Empress knew that she had recently offended Consort Shu, and she began to investigate Consort Shu. As a result, she did find out about Consort Shu. At the same time, the Empress also inadvertently discovered some very interesting things!

The Empress was disheartened and helpless after discovering the truth. Instead of immediately exposing Consort Shu, she destroyed all the evidence!

The Empress did this not to protect Consort Shu; on the contrary, she wanted Consort Shu to live a life of suffering and unrest!

Despite her dilapidated state, the Empress personally went to Jingyang Palace!

Consort Shu was quite surprised by the Empress's arrival. Even when the Empress came, Consort Shu did not get up. Since she was already like this, Consort Shu did not intend to pretend anymore!

Consort Shu said coldly, "Your Majesty the Empress, I am unwell and cannot rise to pay my respects!"

The empress did not answer her question, but instead drove everyone out of the room!

The Empress replied irrelevantly, "This is only my second time entering Jingyang Palace!"

Consort Shu: "Your Majesty, just say what you have to say! Anyway, our days together are numbered, so just be straightforward!"

The Empress entered and sat down beside Consort Shu's bed, saying, "My sister is still so quick-tempered. This is not good. I forgot to tell you, my sister, that this illness will not take your life so soon. You should be able to live a little longer!"

Consort Shu said sarcastically, "Then I really have to thank Her Majesty the Empress for her kindness!"

The Empress said, "I am too kind. Today I have brought some news for my sister, and I think she will be happy to hear it!"

Consort Shu remained silent!

The Empress continued speaking to herself: "My sister may not know, but I didn't want you to have the Emperor's child. However, I didn't have the guts to make you infertile. I just used some means to delay your pregnancy by a few years. Do you know why you are infertile?"

Consort Shu was barely able to contain herself when she heard this; she instinctively knew she didn't want to hear what was about to happen!

Seeing that her expression was somewhat dazed, the Empress continued, "I suppose my sister doesn't know this! It was Grandmother Empress who did it, didn't you? I never expected the Empress Dowager to be so ruthless, making you infertile, while I took the blame. How merciful I am, telling my sister the truth at the last minute. I wonder if my sister is happy!"

Consort Shu felt a chill in her heart. She wanted to say that what the Empress said was not true, but she knew that the Empress had no reason to lie to her!

Then the Empress went on and on, explaining the details she had found out one by one. Consort Shu couldn't find a reason to refute it, and she knew in her heart that what the Empress said was true!

The Empress was pleased to see Consort Shu's distraught appearance; she knew her old rival very well!

Consort Shu will not let those who harmed her go unpunished, no matter who they are. Since the Empress Dowager intends for her and Consort Shu to kill each other, then she should not be blamed!
