Chapter Twenty-Four: The Empress's Reprimand

With no other option, Yinzhen had to sleep with Yunrong in his arms!

Yunrong was small and soft; holding her in my arms felt like holding a sweet, soft dumpling. It was a novel and wonderful feeling! He also had the expected reaction!

Yinzhen lay down that night because he felt sleepy, but he couldn't fall asleep! In the dim candlelight, Yinzhen watched over Yunrong all night!

The next day, it was still early when Yinzhen got up with dark circles under his eyes, dressed, took out the hot water bottle from the bed which wasn't warm, left the bedroom, and then secretly left with Liang Jiugong!

Yinzhen's whereabouts were indeed secretive. Except for a very few people, everyone thought that the emperor had spent the night in Qianqing Palace, but little did they know that he had spent the whole night in Yongshou Palace enjoying the company of beautiful women! And he even developed feelings for one of them!

Yunrong was still a little groggy when she woke up the next day! After all, she had to pay her respects to the Empress and couldn't be late! What happened last night felt like a dream; when Yunrong first woke up, she couldn't even remember that Yinzhen had come!

After getting dressed, washing up, and applying a hot towel to her face, Yunrong finally woke up a little. Then she asked Changchun, the old nanny, in a low voice, "Nanny, did the Emperor come last night?"

During a break from serving, Changchun whispered, "His Majesty did come, but he didn't let anyone announce it! He left very early this morning!"

Yunrong understood; Yinzhen was doing this for her own good! To avoid incurring the Empress's displeasure!

In fact, the Empress had already begun to dislike her. Ever since Yinzhen first stayed overnight in the inner palace, he rarely went to other palaces except Yongshou Palace! If he did go, he would only stay for a while before returning! He would only stay overnight in Yongshou Palace!

The Empress had only been released from confinement for a short time and immediately went to prepare for the New Year's Eve banquet, so naturally she had no time to "get to know" her! Now that the New Year's Eve has passed, the Empress naturally remembered this "favored concubine"!

The Emperor wasn't at Jingren Palace yesterday, which infuriated the Empress. He was practically humiliating her! The Empress's lack of children and favor meant she was in decline! Her position as Empress was making my life uneasy!

Although strictly speaking, none of the concubines in the harem were favored, and even Yunrong's place was visited by the Emperor very few times, it was still better than the other two who never visited at all!

The Empress was seething with anger, waiting in Jingren Palace for those little hussies to come and pay their respects! Today, Consort Niu actually arrived quite early, and she had a smile on her face the whole time, looking like she was in a very good mood!

Of course she's in a good mood! She can't have children, and she's not love-struck. The Emperor's favor is just icing on the cake for her. She can annoy the Empress, but it doesn't matter if the Empress isn't there. Anyway, the Empress is no better than her!

Yesterday, the Emperor embarrassed the Empress, and Consort Niu was naturally overjoyed! So she arrived a little earlier today, wanting to watch the spectacle! She loved how the Empress, though secretly seething with jealousy, maintained a dignified and magnanimous facade!

When Yunrong arrived, she saw that Consort Hui was missing, but everyone else had arrived!

Soon after, Consort Hui arrived, and the Empress, supported by the nanny, slowly came out!

After the Empress rose to pay her respects and sat down, her first words were: "Consort Niu has arrived so early today. I've never seen Consort Niu arrive this early before. She seems to be feeling much better!"

Niohuru didn't care about the Empress's words and said with a smile, "Indeed, I'm much better now. Your Majesty was busy praying for the little prince during this time, unaware that I've been well thanks to Your Majesty's blessings. I'm also handling palace affairs with ease these days. It's a pity that Your Majesty didn't get to see how I recovered!"

Consort Niu, not content with making things worse, stabbed the Empress in the heart once more!

Perhaps due to a period of self-cultivation, the Empress was able to remain calm. She said with some regret, "It's my misfortune that I didn't get to see it! In the future, I'll have to keep my eyes wide open and look carefully. If there's a next time... Oh dear, look at my mouth, isn't that cursing someone? Consort Niu, please pretend I didn't say anything! Please don't take it to heart!"

Niohuru, with an air of nonchalance, said, "Her Majesty the Empress didn't do it on purpose, how could I possibly take it to heart!" Then, as if joking, she added, "If the Empress had meant it, wouldn't I have fought you two to the death?"

The Empress said awkwardly, "It's good that you didn't take it to heart!"

Then the Empress saw Consort Rong: "Consort Rong, why don't you bring the little prince over? I, as the Empress Dowager, haven't seen him in a long time, and I've been thinking about him constantly! When my Chenghu was still alive, he especially wanted a younger brother to keep him company!"

Consort Rong felt uneasy after hearing the Empress's words! What did the Empress mean? Did she want her son to accompany her son? Who was she cursing?

Consort Rong said somewhat stiffly, "The weather is so cold, and the young prince is a little weak. I'm worried about him coming out; I'm afraid something might happen to him!"

Empress: "You should take good care of yourself and make sure you don't catch a cold!"

After taking on his arch-enemy and the only one with a son, it's time for Yunrong!

The Empress said to Yunrong, "Consort Xian has become even more beautiful lately! Although the Emperor loves to visit you, you should also think about his reputation! This reputation for exclusive favor is not good for the Fucha family!"

The Empress implied that Yunrong's exclusive favor in the harem was not the behavior expected of a woman from a good family!

Yunrong said in a panic, "Your Majesty, I am innocent! His Majesty only visits once every ten days or half a month. I cannot possibly send His Majesty away, nor do I have the courage to do so!"

Niohuru chimed in, "What Consort Xian said is right. In the past, the Emperor would stay overnight in the Empress's palace for ten days or half a month at a time, and the Empress did not say anything then. If the title of exclusive favor is really pinned on Consort Xian, that would be a great injustice!"
