Chapter 10 "I'll come see you whenever I have time"

The Fourth Prince hummed in agreement again: "If you're missing anything, just go to the main courtyard and tell us. There's no need to hide it." This was the second time the Fourth Prince had said this.

Li Chenjiao smiled upon hearing this: "Yes, the Fujin treats the servants very well, so there is nothing lacking."

Fourth Master took a sip of tea and then fell silent.

Li Chenjiao didn't know what to say for a moment, so she picked up a pastry from the table to try. Today it was mung bean cake again. It was soft, sweet, and fragrant with the aroma of mung beans. It was soft, glutinous, and delicious.

After eating two or three pieces, Li Chenjiao, remembering that Fourth Master was still around, tilted her head and blinked, asking, "Is this the mung bean cake that the kitchen served today? Would you like to try some, Your Highness?"

Most of the food eaten by young ladies is sweet and cloying, which Fourth Master doesn't particularly like. He was about to refuse when he looked up and saw Li Chenjiao tilting her head and blinking at him. Suddenly, the words of refusal stuck in his throat. After a long while, he finally uttered a single word: "Okay."

When someone is good-looking, it's almost embarrassing to say no.

Li Chenjiao chuckled and quickly picked up a piece of mung bean cake, handing it to Fourth Master: "Would you like to try this, Your Highness?"

She held a mung bean cake in her slender hands, her regularly manicured nails gleaming pink, though they weren't painted with anything, just a delicate pink that made her hands appear even more slender and beautiful.

In a moment of impulsiveness, Fourth Master accepted it. As their fingertips touched, Fourth Master suddenly withdrew his hand, but fortunately, the mung bean cake in his hand did not fall.

Li Chenjiao let out a soft sigh.

Fourth Master felt inexplicably hot, so he ate the small piece of mung bean cake in two bites and drank some tea.

It's warm...

The Fourth Master coughed twice: "I still have official business in the front yard, so I'll be leaving now." He stood up as he spoke, then seemed to remember something and turned back: "I'll come to see you when I have time."

Li Chenjiao answered "yes" first, and when she saw that Fourth Master had said something so abrupt again, she smiled and said, "Yes."

Watching Fourth Master leave, Li Chenjiao couldn't help but smile again. Fourth Master is quite... cute?

...

Bai Jia deliberately came out at this time and spotted the Fourth Master from afar. She was secretly delighted, but she concealed it well on her face.

I thought the Fourth Prince would come, but he turned around and left. I was feeling disappointed when a little eunuch came to tell me that the Fourth Prince would be coming over that evening.

She happily returned to her courtyard to dress and wash up, but then she heard that the Fourth Master had gone to Lady Li's place, and Bai Jiashi's happiness vanished.

This is... the rise and fall?

Just as she was in a daze, she heard the maid say that the Fourth Master had already left. Bai Jia's heart, which had been pounding, slowly settled down. She then quickly ordered the servants to prepare water.

After the Fourth Master arrived and they served him his meal, just as they were talking about him going to take a bath, they heard Su Peisheng calling from outside: "Master, the maid from Consort Song's quarters has arrived..."

That's life... full of ups and downs.

Well, today's efforts have been in vain again. All that work for nothing.

Bai Jia harbored resentment, but dared not speak it aloud, since Song Gege was pregnant. She could only respectfully see the Fourth Prince off and watch him go to Song Gege's place.

Bai Jia is now considered the worst off in the household, so it's no wonder she went to such lengths to pull off this whole thing.

In the end, it still didn't work out.

The maid Danqing brought out the dinner and whispered to comfort her, "Princess, don't be angry. There are still many days ahead. Don't get upset and ruin your health. That wouldn't be worth it. Have your dinner first."

Bai Jia sneered upon hearing this: "Dinner? Don't you even look at what the kitchen has sent over?" She had been pampered since childhood, and had never eaten anything so greasy and cold before.

Another maid, Dan Gui, nodded and said, "Yes... this servant will take it to the kitchen and ask them to heat it up."

Bai Jia's eyes flickered slightly, and she waved her hand: "Never mind, they won't pay any attention to it if we send it over now. Just bring over today's pastries, and I'll have a taste."

Upon hearing this, Dan Gui's eyes flashed with disappointment, but she didn't say anything more and went to get the pastries.

...

The next day, everything was peaceful because the Fujin went to the Fifth Prince's residence to visit the Fifth Fujin early in the morning. Only Bai Jiashi, after having breakfast, took her maid to visit Song Shi.

Madam Song did not see her, but called out a maid and said, "Princess Bai Jia, please don't be angry. Our princess was unwell last night. The imperial physician examined her all night and she didn't sleep well. She has only just rested now and is unable to see you."

Bai Jia gritted her teeth, feeling utterly humiliated, and could only force a smile: "Fine, if that's the case, then I'll come to see Sister Song another day."

Hearing this from inside, Madam Song swayed slightly against the couch and couldn't help but laugh out loud: "She's too impatient... she'll have a lot of trouble to suffer later."

The maid bent down and massaged Song's legs. Upon hearing this, she simply nodded slightly and continued to massage her legs with her head bowed and eyes lowered.

Yes, you can't rush things. There's still a long way to go. If you're in such a hurry now, what will you do in the future?

Now that Bai Jia is like this, isn't it because she's anxious? But as anxious as she is, how come she's so anxious that she's lost her mind?

Just as Madam Song was saying she was going to rest for a while, a maid rushed in with a message: "It's terrible, Princess! In the garden, Miss Xu accidentally bumped into Princess Baijia, and Princess Baijia is having Miss Xu beaten with a board right now."

Madam Song was slightly taken aback, and her lips twitched slightly: "Have you really lost your mind from worrying so much?"

The maidservant then spoke up: "Princess!"

Madam Song smiled and said, "We don't need to get involved in this. The worse Bai Jia Gege is beaten, the better Madam Xu's life will be in the future."

In the garden, Song didn't want to get involved, and Li Chenjiao, who lived nearby, also didn't really want to get involved, mainly because she had just woken up and wasn't very energetic.

Indeed, Li Chenjiao had only been asleep for a short while when she was woken up by Xu's maid. It turned out that the maid had come to call for help.

Li Chenjiao blinked and gave the little girl an idea: "There's nothing I can do, and Princess Bai Jia isn't afraid of me. But you can go to the front yard. After all, the people in the front yard are Fourth Master's people. Princess Bai Jia won't dare to continue to be presumptuous there."

The little girl was startled and ran to the front yard without even having time to bow.

Fortunately, by the time the servants from the main courtyard arrived, Madam Xu had only received five strokes of the cane. But it still hurt, as the servants' blows were not always gentle.

After listening to Qiu Ci's words, Li Chenjiao blinked habitually, then quickly waved her hand and said, "Quickly, quickly, go and invite another physician from the prefecture. Tell him I'm not feeling well."

Qiu Ci asked in confusion, "Princess, Miss Xu needs the family physician right now."

Li Chenjiao shook her head: "The servants who take their pulses are only knowledgeable about simple minor illnesses. Go and invite the family physician to examine me, give him the money, and tell him to take a look at Madam Xu."

Qiu Ci understood immediately and hurried off.
