This is quite strange; instead of going to Fourth Master, Madam Song has come to find Li Chenjiao.
Li Chenjiao first gave instructions: "Is the eldest princess being held by Madam Wang? Remove all the potted plants from the outer corridor, and also the ones in my room."
Li Chenjiao still remembered what the imperial physician had said about the eldest princess not being allowed to touch flowers.
Although the second princess is still unable to run or jump and spends most of her time sleeping, Li Chenjiao knows that children are curious about everything.
After giving her instructions, Li Chenjiao instructed the two maids to bring tea and snacks: "Is there any more milk? Ask if Princess Wang has any dietary restrictions. Have He bring some soft and easy-to-digest cakes. Can Princess Wang eat them right now?"
Li Chenjiao only knew that at this age, the eldest princess probably didn't only drink breast milk from wet nurses; at least she could eat some easily digestible porridge or the like.
The Second Princess hasn't grown up to that age yet, and Li Chenjiao hasn't learned these things from the nanny and the others.
Li Chenjiao had never had any particular feelings for Song Gege, and was only doing so now because of the eldest princess.
Li Chenjiao had met the eldest princess a few times. In the past, she only felt sorry for the eldest princess. Now that she had her own little princess, the second princess, she felt happy to hear the name of the eldest princess.
Putting everything else aside, the eldest princess already looks like she's growing into a beauty.
Song entered in a flurry, wearing a light summer shirt in her usual favorite light and elegant color. Behind her, Wang, who was walking slowly and bent over, led the eldest princess forward.
Today, the eldest princess had her hair styled in a pretty little bun. Little Jade Bell swayed slightly as the eldest princess walked, and even though she was being led by Madam Wang, she was still a little unsteady and would occasionally let out a soft breath. When she spoke, she had a childish voice.
"Grandma—Grandma, wait...wait..."
In just a few steps, Li Chenjiao's heart melted.
It took her a while to remember that Madam Song was still standing: "Princess Song, please sit down. Is the sun strong outside? Look, the eldest princess is sweating. Qiu Hu, quickly go and get a handkerchief to wipe the eldest princess's head."
Li Chenjiao was dressed simply. She moved from the canopy bed to the small couch in front of the flower window. Madam Song sat down on the other side, and the eldest princess was held by Madam Wang at the lower end. Upon hearing this, she hurriedly thanked them.
When Madam Song sent Liu Xu to summon Madam Wang, Madam Wang hesitated. After all, she was afraid that Madam Song would offend Consort Li, which would eventually affect the eldest princess. Madam Wang was unwilling to do that.
However, after hearing what Liu Xu said about Song Shi, Wang Shi finally nodded.
That's why we're in this situation today.
Song was originally fanning herself with a round fan, but then she remembered that Li Chenjiao was still in her postpartum period. Although it was a bit stuffy coming from the garden, she put the fan on the table.
"What's so hot about it? This stretch of road could take the eldest princess two trips, and she's not afraid of getting out of breath."
When Song was halfway through speaking, Wang covered the eldest princess's ears.
The eldest princess was tugging at Wang's sleeve with her head down, and when she sensed something, she moved as if in confusion, and the small jade bell in her hair jingled clearly.
Song said this bluntly in front of the eldest princess. Li Chenjiao turned her head to look at her and said, "Wouldn't it be good for the eldest princess to move around more?"
Li Chenjiao turned to Wang Shi below her and said, "Does the eldest princess like cats? The persimmon in my yard is always docile. Take the eldest princess down to play."
Some things are naturally not suitable to be said to the eldest princess, regardless of whether she can understand them or not.
Wang carried the eldest princess away, and Li Chenjiao's smile faded a bit: "Why is Princess Song here at this hour?"
Li Chenjiao simply stated it outright.
Madam Song lowered her head and took a sip of tea, saying first, "Your tea is still the best. Is it this year's new tea?"
Li Chenjiao drank the milk herself; it wasn't sweet or greasy.
"I'll have my servant bring some back to you later."
Madam Song didn't stand on ceremony: "Then thank you very much. Since you asked, I'll just tell you. It's because Madam Xie had a difficult childbirth and left behind the Third Prince. Didn't the Fourth Prince come here yesterday? So I shamelessly came here to ask you for some clarification."
Song's words and Li Chenjiao's words were practically identical.
However, this was more annoying than Song Shi's previous roundabout way of speaking. Li Chenjiao raised her eyes and looked directly at Song Shi: "I don't understand what Song Gege means. The matter of the Third Prince is something that the Fourth Prince has to consider. We naturally cannot speculate."
Li Chenjiao started speaking indirectly, since the matter of the Third Prince really had little to do with Song Shi.
If Li Chenjiao were to tell the truth, then Song Shi might very well get angry with her.
Moreover, Li Chenjiao really couldn't say much about the Third Prince's matter.
If Li Chenjiao were to utter a single word, how would she know it? Madam Song would naturally be suspicious, and might even guess that Li Chenjiao had instigated the Fourth Prince to make that conclusion.
Li Chenjiao never gives others any opportunity to exploit her words.
Upon hearing this, Madam Song naturally did not believe it. She then stared at Li Chenjiao with a suspicious look: "You really don't know? I only said that when Madam Xie was alive, I was considered to have a good relationship with her in the whole mansion. I also did not want to see the Third Prince being raised by the main wife. I did have some thoughts about it, but I did not dare to speak rashly. That's why I came to ask for your opinion."
At noon, when I was feeling drowsy, listening to Song's earnest words made my temples throb and my head swell.
The smile on Li Chenjiao's lips vanished: "Gege Song's fan today is very beautiful, but her words are not so pleasant. As I just said, how could we possibly fathom Fourth Master's thoughts? Why can't Gege Song understand?"
