When Li Chenjiao came out of the courtyard, she was startled to see a large group of maids standing in the courtyard.
The maids in the courtyard all said in unison, "Greetings to Consort Li."
Li Chenjiao didn't rush to speak, but first turned around and asked who had called the person over.
Upon hearing that it was the Fourth Prince who sent Su Peisheng to the Imperial Household Department to give the order, Li Chenjiao's dark eyelashes trembled slightly, and she smiled first.
The maids standing outside naturally dared not look up, but the maids standing in front felt their ears go numb when they heard that sound, and couldn't help but sigh in their hearts.
The maid in front, however, strained her ears but only heard the laughter of the two maids.
Li Chenjiao chuckled, "Fourth Master, catching a cold is too unexpected."
Yesterday, Fourth Master said he had caught a cold, and today he went to court. It's really something—
However, Li Chenjiao could only say these words when the Fourth Prince was not around; she dared not say them in front of him.
Li Chenjiao lowered her voice and then lazily yawned: "You all know the rules here. Follow the rules and pick out the unsuitable ones first. I'll take a look from the side."
She then gave a look to Granny Lin, who was standing to the side.
Although Lin Mama hadn't been in the East Courtyard for long, she gradually became able to understand Li Chenjiao's instructions.
"The Second Princess has just fallen asleep."
Li Chenjiao said "Oh," and then sat down on the veranda to look at the two pots of green chrysanthemums. With Granny Lin there, they were being taken very well.
Qiu Hu and Qiu Ci exchanged a glance, and Qiu Ci quickly cleared her throat and spoke first.
From a distance, Li Chenjiao thought it looked like the two girls were trying to play the good cop and the bad cop.
However, Li Chenjiao was still at ease. After the last two maids picked out seven or eight suitable maids, Li Chenjiao personally made her selections.
In the end, Li Chenjiao chose four maids.
Once the maids have been chosen, the next step is to name them.
Instead of using the character "秋" (autumn) in her name, Li Chenjiao was struggling to come up with a name when she noticed the two pots of green chrysanthemums nearby.
Li Chenjiao's eyes lit up.
"Let's call you Green Plum, Green Orchid, Green Bamboo, and Green Chrysanthemum so I can remember you. From now on, I'll learn to serve you from your sisters Qiu Hu and Qiu Ci."
Green Plum and Green Orchid are both taller, but Green Plum is more cheerful, while Green Bamboo looks quieter and more composed.
Although Green Bamboo has the character "bamboo" in its name, it is shorter and has a rounder face, making it look very cute. However, it has a loud voice.
Of those words, "Greetings to the concubine," Green Bamboo spoke the loudest.
Green Chrysanthemum is about the same height as Autumn Porcelain. She speaks fluently and seems clever. She was also the one who answered most fluently when Li Chenjiao asked her questions.
Although Green Chrysanthemum is clever, she is also very good at reading people's expressions and never makes people feel disgusted by her words.
Li Chenjiao had a deeper impression of green chrysanthemums, so she ordered some extra green chrysanthemums.
“I have two pots of green chrysanthemums here, which are looked after by the steward, Granny Lin. Since you are also named Green Chrysanthemum, Granny Lin will also teach you.”
Green Chrysanthemum was naturally overjoyed and agreed.
It's likely that Su Peisheng had already selected the maids at the Imperial Household Department, and the maids assigned to the East Courtyard were all of average appearance.
Li Chenjiao didn't have any taboos when making her choice. She wasn't worried about this, as Fourth Master wasn't the kind of person who would be indiscriminate in choosing someone.
However, since some criticism was necessary, Li Chenjiao and the other four maids still stood still and said a few words.
"I have always valued loyalty in my personnel, preferring quality over quantity. Anyone who is disloyal will be reported to the Imperial Household Department now."
"Of course, we can't be careless in our work. In the East Courtyard, the Second Princess and I cannot be treated lightly. Since you are serving in the East Courtyard, as long as you are loyal and do your job well, I will certainly not treat you unfairly. If there is anything you don't understand, you can ask Qiu Hu and Qiu Ci first. Do you understand?"
Li Chenjiao's voice was no longer filled with laughter; every word seemed to strike the hearts of the four girls.
The four maids immediately knelt down and bowed, saying in unison, "These servants will serve our master and the Second Princess with utmost loyalty."
Li Chenjiao nodded without showing much emotion, and then assigned tasks to the four maids.
“Green Plum is in charge of registering the storeroom. Second Princess’s things are handled by Madam Chen and Granny Lin. Lately, you’ve only been learning how to register and catalog with Qiu Hu.”
"Lvlan will take care of the flowers and plants in the yard, and Qiuhu and the others will take care of them in the house. As for how to take care of them, you can do the same and learn from your sister Qiuci."
Qiu Ci was a little embarrassed to be called "elder sister" for the first time, but she coughed lightly twice to cover it up.
Li Chenjiao arranged meals for Lüzhu in the East Courtyard. Since Lüzhu was new to the area, Xiaoluzi and Dongsheng would take her to the kitchen to meet people in the next few days, which would also relieve Xiaoluzi and the others of their burden.
As for Lüju, Li Chenjiao still needs someone to prepare her dowry and clothes. Ever since she became a concubine, she has accumulated quite a few more pieces of jewelry and clothing.
However, those were all personal items, so Li Chenjiao naturally wouldn't feel comfortable handing them over to the new maids so easily.
Li Chenjiao paused for a moment: "Second Princess is still short of people to serve her. You should follow Chen Mama and the others to learn how to take care of Second Princess these days."
She wasn't worried about Green Chrysanthemum and the others harming the Second Princess. Firstly, they were chosen by Su Peisheng at the Fourth Prince's behest, so their backgrounds were at least clean. Secondly, Li Chenjiao kept a close eye on the Second Princess, so she wasn't afraid of anyone making a move.
And then there's that inexplicable ability.
Speaking of this, there's another matter involved.
When the second princess was three months old and started learning to roll over, one day happened to be the day for paying respects to the emperor. On her way back from the main courtyard, Li Chenjiao suddenly felt a terrible headache.
