Chapter 323. Trapped.

Li Chenjiao arrived at the front gate at dawn, neither too early nor too late. The Fujin arrived shortly after her.

Bai Jiashi, Song Shi, Xu Shi, and others have also arrived.

Li Chenjiao greeted the Fujin (principal wife) and then lowered her eyes.

I'm so sleepy.

Li Chenjiao completely ignored the nonsense the Fujin was spouting. She covered her mouth to stifle a yawn.

Li Chenjiao sometimes admired the Fujin's energy and spirit; it was only the fifth watch of the night, yet she showed no signs of sleepiness.

A little while later, Su Peisheng, who was by the Fourth Master's side, arrived, but the Fourth Master himself did not come.

Li Chenjiao forced herself to cheer up and waited to hear what Su Peisheng would say after bowing to him.

"Replying to the First Lady, Second Lady, and all the ladies, someone from the palace is urgently urging us on. His Highness has already gone to the palace ahead of us. You may all leave now."

The Emperor's departure from the capital during his southern tour was not a simple matter of leaving the palace directly. The Ministry of Rites and other departments made extensive preparations in between, and the princes naturally had to enter the palace early to wait for him.

Well, for the wives and the others, it's a waste of time to get up so early today.

However, the princess consort was indeed a princess consort; upon hearing Su Peisheng's words, she still maintained a dignified and generous smile.

"The Fourth Prince cannot be left alone. Eunuch Su, please return to the Fourth Prince's side first. I have a few important words to say to Consort Bai and Lady Bai."

Now, the Fujin (principal wife) is at least somewhat polite when speaking to Li Chenjiao.

Su Peisheng bowed in agreement, and before leaving after a while, he said, "But time is of the essence, so please don't delay, Consort and Princess. This servant cannot afford to offend you."

Look at what Su Peisheng said.

The Fujin just said that Su Peisheng should go to the palace first and go to the Fourth Prince's side.

However, Su Peisheng said that "he could not afford to offend them," which meant that he would follow Li Chenjiao and Bai Jiashi all the way after they got into the carriage and left the mansion for the Forbidden City.

Li Chenjiao perked up after hearing Su Peizhe's words. She tilted her head and watched with great interest as the Fujin reacted.

The Fujin's expression remained unchanged: "That's true, it would be bad if we were late. Li Shi, you're a reliable person, I feel at ease having you serving the Fourth Prince outside. Besides, Bai Jia Shi isn't a first-timer serving the Fourth Prince. The two of you must work together to serve the Fourth Prince well outside."

The princess's words were truly disgusting and repulsive.

These words make it sound as if Consort Li and Lady Bai are on equal footing.

Li Chenjiao yawned again, this time openly and honestly.

She lowered her hand and gave a proper bow: "Yes, Your Highness is right."

Anyone can say polite words.

Anyway, once they're outside this door, the Fujin's hand can't reach that far.

Let the princess consort have a good laugh.

There's no way to disgust her.

Su Peisheng stood to the side, pretending to be deaf while the Fujin was speaking.

Seeing that neither his wife nor Consort Li intended to speak, he smiled and looked at Consort Li.

"This way, Consort." He then led the way.

Li Chenjiao nodded slightly and walked slightly ahead of Su Peisheng.

The princess was already behind her, so she didn't need to look at the princess's expression or hear her voice.

Li Chenjiao slowly breathed a sigh of relief; this time, she truly felt that the air was fresh.

Li Chenjiao's manner of speaking to the Fujin was sometimes polite and sometimes impolite, always giving the Fujin the impression that she was sometimes proper and sometimes improper.

There are no people in the world who are always right, nor are there people who are always wrong.

For Li Chenjiao, finding the right balance is the most appropriate approach, and she won't make any mistakes.

Pretending to be happy or unhappy is quite tiring, but now, just like last time at the manor, Li Chenjiao can relax again.

Li Chenjiao got into the carriage first. Needless to say, her carriage was half the size larger than Bai Jia's.

However, since Bai Jia was a princess, her carriage was naturally very small.

In comparison, Li Chenjiao's carriage was much smaller than Fourth Master's.

However, this carriage was already quite suitable for Li Chenjiao.

Once inside the carriage, Li Chenjiao's face lit up with joy when she saw the flatbreads on it.

"Who prepared this? It's just what I'm looking for right now, and it's quite filling."

These pancakes are much more filling than pastries when you're out and about.

Li Chenjiao immediately took her hands; it was still warm.

As soon as the pancake entered her mouth, Li Chenjiao felt a little burned, but she couldn't bear to let go.

The pancakes were filled with meat, and Li Chenjiao was extremely hungry. Eating these was more delicious than anything else.

Qiu Hu busied himself preparing tea and testing the temperature.

Green Bamboo and Green Chrysanthemum were both traveling with Li Chenjiao for the first time, and they were a little uneasy when they got into the carriage.

Qiu Hu, however, was familiar with the place and immediately gave the two maids instructions.

"Go ask the locals outside when we're going to set off."

"Keep an eye on the tea, make sure it's not spilled. I'll go check on the change of clothes the master has prepared."

Li Chenjiao glanced at the flatbread on the table: "Come and have some flatbread when you're done. Today's probably been quite a tiring day, so don't go hungry."

Most of the girls had brought dry food with them, but nothing smelled as good as the hot sesame seed cakes they were eating.

Especially Green Bamboo, she couldn't help but swallow her saliva when she got off the carriage.

She returned quickly: "Reporting to Your Majesty. Eunuch Su is leading people to check the luggage and bags, and we can set off in another fifteen minutes. We'll wait for you outside the Forbidden City in a bit."

Li Chenjiao nodded slightly, then pushed the sesame cakes on the table for the maids to divide up, so they could eat them while they had the chance.

Otherwise, it would be quite inconvenient once the carriage sets off.

Green Chrysanthemum still seemed a bit reserved, after all, sesame seed cakes are a type of food with a strong flavor.

Li Chenjiao had almost finished eating: "Pull the carriage curtain open a little. Where's the perfume we brought? Sprinkle some on it when we set off."

She took another small sip of tea herself.

She didn't dare drink too much, otherwise what if she had to change clothes halfway through?

This is why it's not as comfortable as being on the estate; you have to be more careful wherever you go, and you have to be more particular about what you eat and drink.

For now, we can still drink some warm tea, but when it's time to set off, we'll only have the water from our water pouches to drink.

Tea was something only masters could drink.

The girls ate quickly and didn't dare drink too much water.

A quarter of an hour later, the carriage indeed set off, swaying and bumping its way toward the Forbidden City.

Around 7:30 AM, Li Chenjiao and the others' carriage arrived outside the Forbidden City. The maids all behaved themselves and did not lift the curtain to look.

Li Chenjiao was really lazy, so she took off her earrings and lay down on the table for a nap.
