Li Chenjiao was escorted by Su Peisheng to the East Courtyard. Halfway there, Li Chenjiao told Su Peisheng to go back first, knowing that Fourth Master was busy today.
Su Peisheng smiled and thanked Master Li for his consideration, then whispered some of the instructions his master had given him when he summoned him.
Upon hearing this, Li Chenjiao's pupils widened slightly, a hint of surprise flashing in her eyes, before turning into a smile: "Okay, I understand. I'll have Xiao Luzi prepare it then."
Su Peisheng bowed again, his face beaming with smiles: "Yes, it's warm now that spring has arrived, but Master just reminded us to be careful of a sudden cold snap..."
Li Chenjiao smiled and then waved for people to leave.
After Su Peisheng stepped down, Li Chenjiao walked towards the east courtyard. She waited for quite a while before finally bursting into laughter when she was almost there.
"Once Second Princess returns at noon, let's get ready to set off. Let's see if they come back first or if we do. Hey, find that new riding outfit we made last winter, and also Ah Man's two favorite kites."
Li Chenjiao entered the east courtyard and stood under the corridor for a while, then squinted comfortably: "Hey, the weather is nice today, not too hot or too cold, and the wind is just right, perfect for going out for a spring outing and swinging."
She herself could tell that the little girl was a bit unhappy when she went to Granny Zhong's place today. Aman was older and could already understand some of the differences between her and her younger brother Wanwan, but she didn't show it.
Li Chenjiao had originally planned to spend half a day playing happily with the little girl after Aman returned at noon.
However, the Fourth Prince was more thoughtful and had Su Peisheng tell her to go to the front yard to pick up the Second Princess at noon. Then the mother and daughter would take a sedan chair out of the manor to the estate.
As luck would have it, the Fujin heard that the two children from the Ulanara clan who had been sent back were on a hunger strike these past few days. Apparently, the two children fell ill the night they were sent back, and had only just recovered a little in the last two days. But somehow, they couldn't understand what they had heard and started this hunger strike.
One of them was the Fujin's own nephew. Since the Fourth Prince and the Second Prince were both away at the palace today, the Fujin had the gatekeeper prepare a carriage and headed home with her maids and servants after about an hour.
This way, it would be even less conspicuous for Li Chenjiao to leave the manor with the Second Princess, saving her a lot of trouble.
However, after Li Chenjiao left the manor in a sedan chair with the Second Princess, she also said, "Being caught in the middle is the most difficult... You're caught in the middle, torn between two sides, and in the end, you end up confused about both..."
The second princess sat upright against her mother, seemingly understanding but not quite. Li Chenjiao then pulled the little girl into her arms: "Many things require decisive action!"
She raised her hand and made a chopping motion, which made the little girl laugh again and again.
The little girl still seemed to understand, but not quite.
Li Chenjiao then offered an explanation: "It's like when a person is sick, if they always refuse to drink the medicine they should be taking because they think it's too bitter, then the illness will heal more slowly."
The little girl understood something.
Li Chenjiao patted the little girl's head and stopped talking about it, otherwise the little girl would start thinking too much: "Today we'll go to the goldfish pond in the south of the city to play, and then we'll fly kites. We'll eat out today."
In the southern part of the city, near the Goldfish Pond, Fourth Master gave her a house nearby. Today, Li Chenjiao will take the young girl to take a walk and have a look.
The little girl seemed much more lively after leaving the manor. The goldfish pond in the south of the city was famous far and wide, and it was larger and more beautiful than the pond on the estate.
Xiao Lu had bought fish food beforehand. Li Chenjiao was dressed in casual clothes and wearing a veil on her head. People were coming and going in the south city. Li Chenjiao was holding the little girl's hand in front of her.
Qiu Hu and Lü Ju followed one after the other, while Xiao Lu Zi and Chen Shi followed one on the left and one on the right.
The little girl was delighted by everything she saw. In the past, when she left the manor, she would go straight to the estate, but today made her even happier.
Li Chenjiao asked Xiao Luzi to buy a string of candied hawthorns, and then entrusted the task of feeding the fish to Li Chenjiao.
Li Chenjiao fed the fish halfway, and then walked around the streets and alleys with the little girl to buy some trinkets and snacks. Oh, and she also bought some for Wanwan.
Li Chenjiao wasn't very familiar with the South City either. However, taking advantage of the girl starting school, Li Chenjiao asked Xiao Luzi to inquire about some things and learned about what fun and interesting things there were in the South City.
Lunch was at a restaurant that was said to be from the south. Li Chenjiao had been to the south a few times, and the food was indeed authentic. The little girl loved two of the sweet snacks. After the mother and daughter finished eating, they sat for a while.
As the mother and daughter were leaving the restaurant, they were bumped into by someone.
The second princess was touching her belly shyly when she saw the person who bumped into her mother and her eyes widened slightly.
ah……
The little girl blurted out, but Li Chenjiao covered it up with an even louder voice: "The road must be slippery, Madam, please be careful..."
Second Princess looked left and right, and Aunt Qiuhu stepped back to her side, bowing her head and smiling slightly at her.
The second princess forgot the words she was about to say: why did her mother call her "Madam"?
The little girl was puzzled for a moment, but the two had already separated. Li Chenjiao held the man's hand and then turned to hold the Second Princess's hand. The gentle woman who had bumped into them apologized and stepped aside to make way.
Li Chenjiao led the little girl outside. The little girl wasn't wearing a veil; she had worn one when she came out earlier, but after the meal, she felt stuffy and didn't put it back on.
The little girl followed him outside, looking left and right. Suddenly, she saw a man standing outside the restaurant who was about the same age as the Emperor, but he didn't look as fierce as the Emperor.
