The main wife had been examined by a physician during the day. Since the imperial physician had just visited yesterday, it would be inappropriate for the main wife to go out and invite another physician today. So the main wife used the excuse of the Ulanara clan, which seemed reasonable enough.
The doctor examined her once and said that the princess had been overworked lately and was somewhat depleted. He advised her to take a good tonic and drink the blood-nourishing and qi-boosting prescription he had given her, and she would be fine.
The wife herself didn't feel anything was wrong. She got up as usual today, and even felt that she was in better spirits than before. However, the maids and nannies were concerned, so she obediently stayed in bed all day.
Knowing that the Fourth Prince hadn't gone anywhere that night, the Princess Consort couldn't quite describe her feelings, but she soon fell asleep.
Li Chenjiao in the East Courtyard went to sleep earlier than the Fujin in the Main Courtyard, but she woke up again around midnight, hungry.
She didn't eat much for dinner. Even when Li Chenjiao was pregnant with the Fourth Prince in the summer, she didn't have this much. She didn't think it was because of the weather that she had no appetite.
As if something was troubling her, Li Chenjiao was hungry, but couldn't eat.
So she woke up hungry in the middle of the night. The small kitchen had been rather quiet these past few days because Li Chenjiao no longer knew how to order all sorts of snacks. The two cooks also seemed to have no way to use their skills and were equally worried.
Qiaoniang was the one left behind tonight. When she heard that the master was hungry, she immediately got to work and started preparing food. She also asked the concubine if there was anything she wanted to eat.
Green Plum, who was on night watch, shook her head: "My master said he wants to drink porridge right now, but he also said he wants something more flavorful. Thank you for your help."
Qiao Niang had already figured out what to do, so she waved her hand and told Lü Mei to bring her a bowl of plum soup.
This led to the bowl of fish porridge that Fourth Master ate in the front yard, which was something Li Chenjiao didn't want to eat.
The fish porridge that Qiao Niang made actually had no fishy smell at all. At first, Li Chenjiao quickly ate half a bowl, but she couldn't finish the remaining half. She felt nauseous after only eating half a bowl.
Just then, Su Peisheng arrived, so she had the small kitchen take the rest to the front yard.
It's really... some are dying of drought, while others are drowning in floods.
For Li Chenjiao, not being able to eat, or even being unable to eat at all, was an extremely unbearable thing.
After eating until she was half full, Li Chenjiao lay back down on the bed. Qiu Hu stood guard by the bedside, pondering for a long time.
Unexpectedly, Li Chenjiao spoke first: "Has the imperial physician not come to check Ping An's pulse for a while?"
Yes, Li Chenjiao's health is good. The last time the imperial physician came to check on her was at the beginning of last month. At that time, her pregnancy was so early that it was impossible to detect anything. This month, there have been many things to do, and without the Fourth Prince keeping an eye on things at the mansion, Li Chenjiao has indeed not had the imperial physician come to check on her for a month.
Qiu Hu wants to say that your period is a month or two late, my dear...
Before she could even choose her words, Li Chenjiao spoke up casually, "I feel like I've encountered good fortune, Qiu Hu, what do you think?"
Qiu Hu: ? Huh? What did you just say, Master? Why did you say what she wanted to say?
She wasn't really willing to say anything definitive; she was afraid that it might not be true. Wouldn't that disappoint her master?
Li Chenjiao rolled over and asked with a smile, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
Qiu Hu made a sound, indicating that she was present, and then said, "Then tomorrow this servant will go and invite the imperial physician. If it is indeed a happy event, then that would be a joyous occasion." She revealed a hint of joy at just the right moment, concealing her slight worry.
Li Chenjiao understood, and she laughed loudly, but she also understood why Qiu Hu was hesitating: "Okay, okay, whatever you say."
The next morning, Qiu Hu instructed Xiao Lu Zi to prepare to go to the palace to fetch the imperial physician. However, Xiao Lu Zi had barely set off when he arrived at the gatehouse and saw a familiar imperial physician, the very same one who often took his master's pulse.
Xiao Luzi stopped, but he couldn't figure out who the imperial physician was there to take his pulse for. Nevertheless, he stepped forward to exchange a few pleasantries.
Physician Xu also saw Xiao Luzi. He politely cupped his hands in greeting, while the little eunuch carrying the medicine box behind him had a big smile on his face.
"Is Your Excellency going out? It's hot today, so please be careful," Physician Xu said first.
Xiao Luzi then followed up on the conversation, but he had originally gone to the Imperial Hospital to invite Physician Xu, so he didn't know what to say at the moment.
The two looked at each other, and Physician Xu spoke first: "How has the Consort been feeling lately? I was also ordered by the Fourth Prince to come and check on the Consort's health today."
This surprised Xiao Luzi, but he reacted quickly: "Then I'll talk to Physician Xu later."
It was clear that there was no need to go to the Imperial Hospital anymore, so Xiao Luzi simply turned a corner outside the mansion and headed towards the market street ahead.
My master hasn't had a good appetite lately, so perhaps we could buy some new and interesting things to eat and take them home.
When Physician Xu arrived at the East Courtyard, he took the patient's pulse and immediately delivered the good news.
When Xiao Luzi returned, everyone in the courtyard couldn't stop smiling.
Li Chenjiao troubled the imperial physician to keep this matter a secret for the time being, since her pregnancy was not yet three months along, and she also wanted to see how the Fourth Prince would react after finding out.
Everyone in the courtyard was extremely cautious upon learning of their mistress's good fortune. Qiu Hu and Qiu Ci were not serving Li Chenjiao for the first time, but they were even more nervous than the two green ones. When the two children returned from school at noon, Green Chrysanthemum was even more nervous upon hearing that her mistress was pregnant.
After Li Chenjiao gave the courtyard a monthly allowance, she went to talk to the two children.
