Chapter 517 Farewell (shuhaige.net)

What is Fourth Master thinking?

He didn't actually have any extra energy to think about anything at the moment. Sending the eldest prince to the front yard was a plan that the fourth prince had already made.

He had been a bit too confident in what he said earlier. At least for now, the Fourth Prince still treats the First Prince and the Second Prince differently in his heart.

After the eldest prince recovered from his illness in the front courtyard, he prepared to start his studies. At that time, Dai Duo would be able to enter and leave his mansion legitimately.

At that time, the eldest prince will not live entirely in the front courtyard; he will still be able to return to Wu's residence after school each day.

Fourth Master had considered many things in this matter.

The children went to school together in the front yard, and seeing each other every day would naturally bring them closer, which was what Fourth Master wanted.

If the children eat and live together, regardless of the relationship between the servants, the children themselves will be less likely to fight.

Fourth Master understood this all too well, so he figured it was enough that the children only saw each other once a day when they went to school.

However, the Second Prince will not return to the main courtyard.

Once the Fourth Prince had made up his mind, there was naturally no room for his wife to object.

After he finished speaking, he got up and went inside to see the eldest prince.

The eldest prince was still in a daze, and even when the imperial physician brought the medicine, he was still confused.

The Fourth Prince watched over the First Prince as he drank his medicine and waited until the First Prince fell asleep before dismissing Lady Wu.

He sat in front of the eldest prince's bed, remaining silent for a long time.

He didn't spend much time with these children; he was away from the capital and his residence for most of the year.

He's only been able to see the children more often in the last two years, but the Fourth Master himself may not be without guilt.

However, the Fourth Prince had no time to consider so many things, just like his father, the Emperor, had been to him. He might know he should spend more time with his children, but the burdens on his shoulders did not allow him to make a choice.

The Fourth Prince sat by the First Prince's bedside for an unknown amount of time, until his fingers ached and became sore that he could barely bend them, before he finally stood up and walked out to the outer room.

"Have someone take good care of the eldest prince, and have Dai Duo send over a list of today's agenda items. The prince will rest in the side room tonight."

Su Peisheng quickly replied, "Yes, sir," and then gestured with his eyes for Fulu to stay.

He quickly followed and whispered, "Master Li from the East Courtyard sent over some chicken noodles and oil-splashed noodles. The noodles have been here for a while now, and they'll probably get soggy if we don't use them soon. You haven't had your dinner yet."

Chicken noodle soup was Fourth Master's favorite dish. Li Chenjiao asked that only a small portion of oil-splashed noodles be prepared. She had just recovered from her illness and found the oil-splashed noodles quite delicious, so she asked the kitchen to make another bowl, but the portion was very small.

Both Lady Wu and the Fujin were preoccupied with other matters and were unaware whether the Fourth Prince had eaten dinner.

But surely Fourth Master won't have dinner at the South Courtyard? Master Li is truly thoughtful; whether Fourth Master has dinner or not, it's still a token of his affection, isn't it?

Li Chenjiao sent noodles at this moment because she thought that the Fourth Prince was worried about the First Prince and probably wouldn't have time to have dinner.

The Fourth Master felt a warmth in his heart.

He naturally knew Li Chenjiao's feelings. She was always like that; she never forgot about meals.

Seeing this, Su Peisheng naturally didn't need to say anything more. He quickly led the way to the side room, opened the food box that had been placed there beforehand, and the aroma soon began to spread.

Fourth Master entered the side room and saw two bowls of noodles and a bowl of vegetarian soup on the table.

The aroma of the shredded chicken noodles wafted over, instantly reminding him of the night before when he and Li Chenjiao had shared a bowl of shredded chicken noodles.

Fourth Master sat down, picked up his chopsticks, and slowly enjoyed the bowl of shredded chicken noodles.

The shredded chicken noodles tasted just like the ones Fourth Master remembered. It was already quite late, and Fourth Master couldn't help but feel a strong urge to eat them. In the end, he even drank the broth clean.

He ate with great satisfaction, and felt even warmer inside.

The oil-splashed noodles are spicier and fresher. After eating the shredded chicken noodles, the Fourth Master found the oil-splashed noodles quite appetizing.

By the end, Fourth Master was sweating profusely, and he also finished the bowl of vegetarian soup.

When Su Peisheng returned from the front yard and saw the situation, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

He was genuinely afraid that Fourth Master would faint from exhaustion tonight.

After dinner, the Fourth Prince went to read the letter written by Dai Duo, but before opening it, he gave instructions.

"Have the imperial physician examine your mistress, Lady Li, tomorrow. She's not fully recovered yet and doesn't seem to be watching her diet at all."

Su Peisheng dared not delay and went there in person.

By the time Fourth Master finished his work, it was already past midnight. The cicadas chirping outside were disturbing, and he didn't get a very good night's sleep.

The next day, the Fourth Prince naturally could no longer stay in the mansion to take care of the First Prince.

With the funeral of the First Princess Consort over, Prince Zhi was finally able to relax. However, the Emperor hadn't said anything about what Prince Zhi needed to do, which made people even more puzzled.

Fourth Master never liked to eat breakfast in the backyard, and when Madam Wu saw him off, she seemed to have something to say but hesitated.

However, Wu Shi did not have the courage and confidence of the Fujin (the wife of the emperor), and in the end, she did not utter a single word.

She overheard the conversation between the Fourth Prince and his wife in the inner room last night...

She was naturally heartbroken and reluctant to see the eldest prince leave her side, but she knew even better that once the fourth prince made up his mind, it was something she couldn't change.

Besides, there's the precedent of the Second Prince, isn't there? She can't possibly never see the First Prince again...

In the end, Madam Wu remained silent, simply watching the Fourth Prince's figure disappear into the distance.

After leaving the South Courtyard, the Fourth Prince went straight out of the mansion and had breakfast at a random breakfast stall outside the mansion.

The Fourth Prince usually ate simpler breakfasts, but when the shopkeeper saw what the Fourth Prince wore on his waist, he naturally dared not serve him anything.
