Chapter 436 Being a Mother is Difficult

When the princess returned to her residence, she didn't even glance at the Empress's reward before having it delivered to the East and South courtyards.

She didn't bring Yu Ru to the palace today, but deliberately left Yu Ru behind to keep an eye on things happening in the manor.

Upon learning that the two midwives had been arranged to leave the manor by the Fourth Prince, the Princess Consort frowned, but did not panic too much.

Even the Empress didn't question her. She was quite at ease now, and she knew exactly what the two midwives were going to say.

She did recall what she had said to Consort De earlier that day, and belatedly realized that she seemed to have said something wrong. But it was too late to regret it now, so she simply put it aside.

With spring approaching in March, all the account books from inside and outside the mansion have been delivered to the main courtyard. The Princess Consort will be very busy.

When the Fujin returned to the mansion, Li Chenjiao in the east courtyard had just gotten up. Breakfast was served at a small table set up beside the bed.

Li Chenjiao felt completely limp, and when she woke up from her nap, she felt even more powerless.

She propped herself up and touched the pillow beside her.

Where is my hairpin?

Today, Green Bamboo and Green Chrysanthemum are serving me.

Green Chrysanthemum hurriedly asked, "Master, don't worry, what style of hairpin is it? Perhaps it's been put away."

"A kingfisher feather hairpin in the shape of a green begonia flower."

Green Bamboo listened for a couple of seconds, then said, "I think I saw it when I was wiping the dressing table earlier. Didn't you put it there, Master? Shall I get it for you?"

Li Chenjiao asked Green Bamboo to bring it over, confirming that it was the one Fourth Master had given her yesterday.

She breathed a sigh of relief; at least she hadn't lost it.

She couldn't bear the consequences if she lost the hairpin that Fourth Master had given her personally.

After she had eaten, she felt a bit more energetic, and then the Second Princess rushed in from outside.

The little girl was dressed in a bright yellow cheongsam today, looking pretty and charming. Her jet-black hair was tied into a small braid as instructed by Li Chenjiao, and Chen Shi skillfully added two silk flowers, making her look very beautiful.

Li Chenjiao didn't like wearing too much jewelry in her hair. She hadn't liked it much when she was still in her boudoir, always finding it cumbersome.

She likes to display pretty jewelry on her dressing table, but she doesn't like to put them all in her hair.

This habit also fell into the hands of the second princess.

In the blink of an eye, the little girl ran to Li Chenjiao's bedside, looking up with a mixture of curiosity and grievance.

Li Chenjiao lay half-reclined, raising her hand to touch the little girl's face: "Aman, do you miss your mother?"

The little girl pouted: "Yes!"

Li Chenjiao turned her head to the side and raised an eyebrow at the little girl.

The mother and daughter then smiled knowingly, their foreheads touching.

"Little brother, you stink."

After a while, the little girl spoke up.

Li Chenjiao wasn't quite sure: "Stinky? Or ugly?" She spoke slowly so that the little girl could understand.

The second princess sniffed: "Stinky."

Oh, so that means it's ugly.

Li Chenjiao hadn't seen the Fourth Prince who had tormented her for a whole day and night yet. She held the little girl's hand and asked, "Is the Fourth Prince awake?"

Green Chrysanthemum shook her head and said she had just fallen asleep.

The little girl peeked out and seemed to chuckle to herself.

Li Chenjiao recalled that Aman used to be a very sleepy child, but what else can a child do besides sleep after eating?

However, this meant she missed another chance to see the Fourth Prince; she would have seen him eventually anyway.

Li Chenjiao talked for a while but still couldn't hold on much longer. She was helped to lie down by the maid and slowly talked to the little girl.

The Fourth Prince was born on February 28th.

After hearing what the nanny said, the little girl shook her head and asked about Li Chenjiao's birthday.

Li Chenjiao had never celebrated her birthday since entering the manor. She always felt that it was different from when she was at home, and there weren't many people in the manor who were genuinely happy for her birthday.

The only person who knew her birthday was Qiu Hu, who had served her since childhood.

Li Chenjiao touched the little girl's face: "Mother, Mother's birthday is the seventh day of the seventh lunar month."

The little girl mumbled "seven seven" repeatedly, seemingly trying to remember the date.

Li Chenjiao could hear Aman's clear voice echoing in her ears, and she fell asleep just like that. It was probably because when they talked about birthdays, she dreamed of the birthdays she used to have in her boudoir.

Birthdays aren't that important; what matters are the people who celebrate them with you.

This stirred up Li Chenjiao's homesickness.

Qiu Hu wasn't serving inside at the moment; she was outside with Qiu Ci, counting the gifts bestowed by the Empress.

The two maids did not report to their mistress when she was awake, because the Second Princess was there at that time.

This time, the Empress's reward was not given to the Second Princess. The two maids, who always knew their mistress's intentions, did not rush to report it to the Second Princess.

Both maids felt sorry for the Second Princess, but they also knew that their sympathy was of no use to her.

Perhaps because of their master, the two maids had been looking forward to the birth of the little prince before the fourth prince was born. However, now that the little prince has been born, they can't help but feel sorry for the second princess.

However, the most difficult part here is probably for one's own master.

...

The mansion was filled with joy, while at the same time, on the official road leading to the capital, a carriage was speeding towards dawn.
