Chapter 27 "Why did Fourth Master leave?"

Li Chenjiao looked embarrassed, her pretty face softening as she blinked at Qiu Ci: "Then... could you go and get my books? It's so boring lying here."

Qiu Ci paused for a moment, looking at her princess's expression, she really couldn't bring herself to refuse, so she could only silently go and get the book.

Of all the beauties in the world, my princess is the most beautiful.

The palace and the backyard of the mansion have never lacked beauties. How many beauties have the nobles (royal children) in the palace seen?

To some extent, those who can be moved by beautiful women are basically unable to control their lower bodies and have desires for anyone with a bit of looks.

Having seen so many beautiful women, beauty isn't really that important anymore.

But... if a stunningly beautiful woman really appeared, even if I weren't head over heels in love, I would definitely treat her differently from others.

Saying you don't care about looks is just because you've seen too many and have no interest. The Fourth Prince is probably like that too. He's been in the palace for so many years and has seen countless beauties, so he's really not that interested.

So when I'm on official business outside the office, I'm sorry, I'm not interested in beautiful women or concubines.

Well, Li Chenjiao is definitely an exception.

According to Qiu Ci's aesthetic standards, her own princess, with her perfect nose and eyes, was probably more beautiful than any of the empresses in the palace when they were young.

Speaking of looks, Li Chenjiao is truly stunning.

For example, now that the Fourth Prince has returned to the manor, he heard that Li Chenjiao is ill and has invited the imperial physician, so he came over.

Li Chenjiao was nestled on the couch, only half of her face visible. A strand of hair fell onto the book, and her usually bright and spirited eyes were slightly lowered, casting a shadow on her eyelids. Perhaps due to illness, the young girl looked somewhat listless, and her usually pink lips were a little pale.

After a few days apart, her slender hands, once like spring onions, were now adorned with cardamom, making them even more beautiful. Her small hands rested on her cheeks, the pink cardamom accentuating her fair and delicate complexion.

The maidservant beside her said something, and the little girl suddenly smiled, her eyebrows curving, making her even more lively and bringing a sense of ease to those who saw her.

Li Chenjiao opened the window a little, and only after she finished laughing did she realize that the Fourth Master was standing outside. Her eyes lit up immediately, and she smiled again, mouthing a greeting through the window.

Fourth Master understood, and felt a little relieved, so he strode inside.

Qiu Hu served the tea and quickly withdrew.

"How did you fall ill? Are you alright? What did the imperial physician say?" Fourth Prince asked as he sat down.

Li Chenjiao put down her book and made up a story: "Perhaps she's been busy making knots for Fourth Master these past few nights and hasn't had a good rest, so she's exhausted."

This was half true and half false, but Li Chenjiao really did make a lot of knots, as well as fan pendants, sachets, and pouches.

Fourth Master glared at Li Chenjiao: "Nonsense, you're going to torture yourself for this? How do you treat your maid?"

Fourth Master clearly didn't believe everything.

Li Chen smiled sweetly, then said with a hint of resentment, "Since Fourth Master hasn't come for so many days, I haven't been able to eat or sleep. I'm so worried and anxious... I can't eat or sleep properly."

Upon hearing this, Fourth Master knew without a second thought that it was fabricated, and snorted: "I think you're doing quite well, you can still get up and read."

Li Chenjiao continued her act: "Waaah... This servant is using this book to read Fourth Master's words and think of Fourth Master..."

Fourth Master is really... If I hadn't seen Li Chenjiao's trembling eyes, I would have almost believed it.

"I've been very busy these past few days and haven't had time to see you. If you need anything in the future, just go to the front yard and find Fu Lu." Fourth Master couldn't stand Li Chenjiao's acting any longer, so he said this first.

Li Chenjiao chuckled twice and replied, "Yes."

Looking at Li Chenjiao's fair face, Fourth Master thought to himself, "She doesn't seem to be sick at all."

"Why did you suddenly faint? What else could it be but illness?" Fourth Master looked at Li Chenjiao for a while and then asked.

Li Chen gave a silly laugh, lowering her eyelids and not daring to look at Fourth Master. Could she say that she didn't know either?

Fourth Master looked at Li Chenjiao, who remained silent, raised an eyebrow, and paused for a moment: "Alright, you should rest well. If you feel unwell, don't hide it."

Isn't there one in the third brother's courtyard? He was unwell but dared not say so, for fear of being scolded by the third prince's wife, so he simply died of illness.

Of course, the Third Prince's wife herself had some problems; at least when it came to fighting with her third brother, she never lost.

The Fourth Prince curled the corners of his mouth slightly.

Seeing that the Fourth Master smiled, Li Chenjiao assumed that he would no longer concern himself with the matter, and breathed a sigh of relief, quietly reading her book.

Fourth Master then ordered Su Peisheng to go to the front yard and fetch some unimportant official documents.

The two of them, one reading a book and the other reviewing official documents, were both quietly doing their own thing.

In the evening, after the Fourth Prince finished reviewing official business, he looked up and saw that Li Chenjiao had fallen asleep on the couch at some point, her little face flushed from sleep.

Looking at Li Chenjiao, Fourth Master felt inexplicably better. He walked to the outer room and said to Qiu Hu, "Give her some clothes."

After saying that, he left.

Qiu Hu hurried inside, and then Qiu Ci quietly entered, asking in a low voice, "Why did Fourth Master leave?"

Qiu Hu added a thin blanket to cover Li Chenjiao and slowly pulled Qiu Ci out: "Have you forgotten? Today is the fifteenth."

Yes, today is the fifteenth, so the Fourth Prince can't be with the Princess.

Just then, I heard Li Chenjiao inside seem to have woken up and was calling for someone.

Qiu Hu and Qiu Ci hurriedly lifted the curtain and went in: "Is the princess awake?"

Li Chenjiao rubbed her head and yawned sleepily: "Where is Fourth Master?"

Qiu Hu brought over some warm tea and said in a low voice, "He just left. Today is the fifteenth. I suppose Fourth Master left for the sake of the Princess?"

Li Chenjiao had also forgotten, blinked, and smiled sheepishly: "Look at me, I forgot. Oh well, dinner is ready, let's eat first."

Seeing that Li Chenjiao was reacting normally, the two maids breathed a sigh of relief and quickly helped her up.

Li Chenjiao was still smiling, but there was a hint of loneliness in her smile, though that loneliness quickly disappeared from her eyes.

Yes, dinner was especially delicious tonight.

Chef Guo's fish dishes are absolutely amazing! They're delicious, not fishy at all, and most importantly, you can eat them endlessly without getting tired of them.

After eating and drinking her fill, Li Chenjiao waved her hand, got up to take a bath and wash up, and then went into the inner room to rest.

Just as they were about to put down the curtain and turn off the lights, Qiu Ci came in and said, "Princess, the main courtyard has been snatched away..." Her tone was quite gloating.

Li Chenjiao got up, lifted the curtain, and asked with a look of curiosity, "The main courtyard was intercepted?"

Qiu Ci nodded emphatically, then whispered, "Just now, Song Gege's maid went to the main courtyard, and about fifteen minutes later, Fourth Master came out of the main courtyard and went to Song Gege's place."

After saying that, Qiu Ci covered her mouth and chuckled twice: "This servant heard from the maids in the main courtyard that as soon as the Fourth Prince left, the Fujin smashed two sets of white porcelain teacups. What a pity, what a pity."

Li Chen gave her a playful glare: "You're just someone who loves to stir up trouble. Alright, I know about your princess. You can go and rest now."

Then Qiuci was dragged down by Qiuhu.
