Mingxiu sat wrapped in a blanket in her glass room, with various fruits, drinks and snacks laid out on the small table in front of her.
Mingxiu sadly tore a grape off the table and popped it into her mouth. This glass room had hardly been used since the hot weather started. Now there was no air conditioning and the glass didn't insulate against the heat, making it unbearably hot in the summer. It was only now that the weather was slightly cooler that Mingxiu was willing to stay in the glass room again.
She felt very worried. Ever since she became pregnant, Emperor Kangxi had been controlling her. She was not even allowed to read storybooks anymore. Emperor Kangxi thought that her storybooks were all frivolous things that would easily corrupt his child, so he wouldn't let her read them at all.
Mingxiu could still recall the shock she felt when Kangxi told her not to look at the picture books.
Mingxiu was initially unwilling, but she couldn't persuade Kangxi. In the end, he promised to read to her and tell her stories, and only then did Mingxiu reluctantly agree.
I originally thought that the books she read, even if they weren't her own storybooks, would be more interesting, like the Analects or travelogues.
To everyone's surprise, he had actually evolved to the point of reciting the Four Books and Five Classics to an unborn child. Mingxiu's head would buzz every night just thinking about it, and she would feel pain just listening to those Four Books and Five Classics.
Moreover, she couldn't refuse; if she did, Kangxi would look at her with a disgraceful gaze.
Mingxiu was utterly speechless.
And it wasn't just her; Yinreng followed suit as well. However, Yinreng always felt that she was carrying a younger sister, so although he said he wouldn't tell her stories, he would send her things that little girls liked every day.
Mingxiu felt immense pressure watching this, and even regretted telling Yinreng that she was his sister. What if she gave birth to a girl instead of a girl? There would be no way to salvage the situation.
Thinking of this, Mingxiu felt even more helpless and sighed with sorrow.
Just as she was grieving, she heard Green Bamboo say that Emperor Kangxi and the Crown Prince had arrived.
Well, now there's no need to sigh or become irritable. This is another point of helplessness for Mingxiu.
For some reason, ever since she became pregnant, the father and son have been coming to have lunch with her every day at noon. Kangxi used to accompany her to study in the evenings, and he would leave after she fell asleep. Now, they also come to have lunch with her at noon.
This caused many people in the palace to be sarcastic and sarcastic. Although Mingxiu didn't care much, Kangxi kept controlling what she ate and wouldn't let her eat many things. She felt that she no longer had the freedom to eat.
This is what really annoys Mingxiu the most.
But she couldn't refuse him. Every time she refused, Yinreng would look at her with those teary-eyed puppy eyes.
Mingxiu couldn't refuse, so she had no choice but to stop eating.
When Ming Xiuxiu entered the main hall, she saw the father and son already sitting at the dining table. They waved excitedly when they saw Ming Xiu come in, with identical expressions. Ming Xiu was speechless; these two really were father and son.
Mingxiu looked at their expressions and a mischievous smile appeared on her face. She was happy now, but she wondered if they would still be able to eat lunch later.
Not long after the three of them sat down, Green Bamboo led the people to serve the dishes. Today's dishes were very simple: a plate of stir-fried mixed vegetables, a plate of braised pork, and a piece of fried shrimp chips. But the most important dish was a fried dough ring. Kangxi and Yinreng were quite familiar with the other dishes, but neither of them had ever seen the dough ring before. They looked at Mingxiu with some doubt.
Mingxiu smiled mysteriously.
Her ultimate weapon for the day was brought out. Kangxi and Yinreng looked at the cup in front of them that looked like milk, but tasted different from milk.
Yinreng sniffed lightly and smelled an indescribable odor. He looked at Mingxiu with some fear and asked, "Mother Ming, what is this?"
Mingxiu smiled mysteriously
"Soy milk"
"You two should try this, it's really delicious. I made it myself, you two can't refuse!" Mingxiu said with a mischievous smile.
Kangxi and Yinreng exchanged a glance, looking at each other helplessly before turning their gaze to the bowl in front of them.
In the end, Yinreng couldn't resist Kangxi's shamelessness and took a sip first.
The moment the fermented mung bean juice entered his mouth, Yinreng's expression changed immediately. His face scrunched up, and he covered his mouth, seemingly about to spit it out.
Seeing Mingxiu's expression, he could only swallow his tears and then immediately picked up the teacup next to him and gulped down a large cup.
After finishing the drink, she looked at Mingxiu with teary eyes and said, "Mother Ming, this soy milk tastes awful."
"Is it hard to drink? I think it tastes pretty good. Your Majesty, please try it. I made it myself. Try it and see if you like it," Mingxiu said innocently.
He even pushed the bowl next to Kangxi closer to him. Kangxi looked at Yinreng's slightly shaken head and then at Mingxiu's smiling face.
She sighed and instantly realized that she was doing this on purpose because she couldn't stand him making her read so much lately.
Helplessly, he picked up the bowl, took a small sip, his expression changed slightly, and he quickly swallowed it. He then hurriedly took a few sips of water from the teacup next to him.
The taste was so peculiar; he had never tasted anything so awful before.
Seeing the pained expressions on their faces, Mingxiu didn't force them to drink any more. She snorted and had the soy milk taken away. She was just angry that the two of them had been tormenting her lately.
After everything was done, they started calling for a proper meal.
The fermented mung bean juice they had just drunk was so potent that Yinreng and Kangxi felt that nothing tasted good to them anymore, and they couldn't even taste the food.
After finishing their meal, the two left quickly without lingering. Mingxiu watched their retreating figures and smiled gently.
