The Qianqing Palace.
Mingxiu sat opposite Kangxi, muttering to herself every now and then, "How boring!" Then she would steal glances at Kangxi, muttering again and again, then glancing at him once more.
Even Emperor Kangxi, who was sitting opposite her reviewing memorials, felt somewhat helpless and looked up at the person in front of him who was doing nothing.
He was happily reviewing these memorials when a eunuch came to report that Mingxiu had arrived. He thought she must have something important to say, but from the moment she arrived, she started complaining about how boring it was.
The Emperor Kangxi was so annoyed that he couldn't even bother to approve the memorials anymore.
"If you're bored, go find something to do. Don't bother me here. How's your studies going lately? Let me check."
Mingxiu stopped abruptly, her body rolling on the couch also halting, and she looked up at Kangxi.
"Your Majesty, they really are studying hard. You saw it when you went to their palace the other day. Don't bother checking today. They're just bored and that's why they came to you to study. Isn't that even more boring?"
Kangxi looked at the shameless person in front of him with great helplessness. "The Imperial Noble Consort has been unwell these past two days. I said I would assign some palace affairs to you to handle, but you insisted that handling official duties was too difficult and refused to accept it. Now you're telling me that you're too idle."
Mingxiu stared wide-eyed. "Your Majesty, I am bored, but even if I am bored, I don't want to do anything. I just want to have fun."
Mingxiu walked up to Kangxi, grabbed his sleeve, and swung it back and forth.
The calligraphy brush in Kangxi's hand flew around wildly.
Kangxi quickly put the brush down on the table and looked at Mingxiu helplessly, "Speak, what exactly do you want?"
"Hehehe, Your Majesty, I would like to go out and play."
Kangxi rolled his eyes at her. He also wanted to go out and play. "Go ahead, no one will stop you. There's so much space outside. Go wherever you want."
Mingxiu pouted and tugged at Kangxi's sleeve even more enthusiastically. "Your Majesty knows that's not what I meant. I want to leave the palace."
"I'm so busy I'm exhausted, I don't have time to take you out. You should stay in the palace for now, we'll talk about it later."
Mingxiu was unhappy; it wasn't the first time she had brought it up, and Kangxi always made excuses to her.
Mingxiu immediately flipped over and sat on Kangxi's lap, wrapping her arms around his and swaying her whole body. "Oh, Your Majesty, please let me go out. I can go out by myself. I can bring more people with me. I'm really bored in the palace."
Kangxi helplessly wrapped his arms around her waist. "Why do you insist on leaving the palace? Why don't you take your daughter with you? Aren't you afraid that your daughter will miss you when you go abroad?"
When her daughter Mingxiu was mentioned, she rolled her eyes and said, "Come on, I think I really gave birth to an ungrateful child. She's getting along so well with Lvzhu, Yulan, and Yuqing now, and she doesn't even remember that she has a mother like me. Let them love each other."
Upon hearing this, Kangxi smiled and said, "Is it because you don't often play with Chenghuan that she's not close to you?"
"I'm innocent, Your Majesty! I've tried to get intimate with her several times a day, but she just prefers Luzhu and the others. I'm so sad!" Mingxiu cried out in Kangxi's arms, insisting that she really hadn't done anything wrong.
Kangxi stretched, put his arm around her and leaned back slightly, pinching her tired brow with one hand.
