Chapter 206 Treatment

Without waiting for Liang Jiugong's reply, she quickly told Lüzhu to go to her room and bring out her small sample box.

Mingxiu always keeps a small first-aid kit, which contains some Western medicines.

Some of them were secretly smuggled into the system space by Mingxiu, while others were medicines used by Westerners that Mingxiu asked her younger brother and Hesheli Jiahui to find for her, including quinine.

She looked for this mainly because she vaguely remembered seeing somewhere that Emperor Kangxi had once suffered from malaria and was cured with quinine, so she specially prepared some of this in case of emergency.

Surprisingly, it actually worked.

After Luzhu hurriedly ran inside and retrieved Mingxiu's small medicine box, Mingxiu led Luzhu and Liang Jiugong straight to the Qianqing Palace.

"Your Majesty, I pay my respects," Mingxiu said hurriedly, accompanied by Lüzhu and Liang Jiugong, as she rushed to the Qianqing Palace, where she saw Yinreng and the imperial physicians still waiting.

Kangxi, disregarding their earlier anger, strode up to Mingxiu and said, "Xiuer, is it true that Baocheng said you have quinine here?"

Excuse me, what are you shouting?

Mingxiu paused for a moment, Xiuer.

She twitched her lips. The name sounded so strange, but she still nodded quickly and asked Green Bamboo to open the small medicine box.

"I have quite a lot of medicine here. You can take a look and see if there's anything you need." She then gestured for Green Bamboo to step forward so the imperial physicians could identify the medicine.

Several imperial physicians hurriedly began to examine the medicine box. After a short while, one of them excitedly picked up a paper package and exclaimed, "That's right, Your Majesty, this is quinine!"

Kangxi's face lit up with joy. "Very good. Then quickly take this to Yu Chenglong's residence and make sure to save Minister Yu's life."

"Yes, Your Majesty, we take our leave." The imperial physicians quickly left after saying this, rushing towards the Yu residence without stopping.

Liang Jiugong quietly gestured to Green Bamboo to retreat with him.

Seeing this, Yinreng rolled his eyes and followed him out.

For a time, only Emperor Kangxi and Mingxiu remained in the Qianqing Palace.

Mingxiu stood there somewhat awkwardly.

"My beloved concubine, you've worked hard."

"Your Majesty, I'm sorry."

The two people spoke at the same time.

After they finished speaking, they both looked up at each other.

Mingxiu couldn't help but chuckle at the scene, but still spoke up, "Your Majesty, I'm sorry. I don't know what was wrong with me the other day, but I just felt very uncomfortable and said something that made Your Majesty angry. Please don't blame me, Your Majesty. I already know I was wrong."

As Mingxiu spoke, she lowered her head and began tearing at the handkerchief with her fingers.

Emperor Kangxi was still angry, but looking at the person in front of him who was sincerely apologizing, he was unsure what to think.

He had interacted with so many ministers on a daily basis, and it wasn't that no one apologized to him or begged for forgiveness, but the feeling he got from those apologies was completely different from the feeling he got from Mingxiu.

Mingxiu was apologizing to him very sincerely, and he could feel her sincerity.

After Mingxiu finished apologizing, she couldn't hear Kangxi's voice for a long time. She bit her lip and thought that Kangxi didn't intend to forgive her.

Then they heard Kangxi's voice from above, "Alright, I'll forgive you this time, but you must never do this again, understand? If there's a next time, I really won't forgive you."

Mingxiu raised her head with a grin, nodded heavily, and wrapped her arms around Kangxi. "Yes, Your Majesty, I will never do that again. Thank you for forgiving me, Your Majesty." Mingxiu rested her head on Kangxi's chest and said coquettishly.

"Your Majesty, I've missed you so much lately. Actually, I knew I was wrong a while ago, but I just couldn't bring myself to admit it. Your Majesty hasn't even come to see me or give me a way out," Mingxiu complained coquettishly.

Kangxi pulled Mingxiu into his arms, listening to her spoiled complaints, and laughed in exasperation. "You're really shameless. It wasn't you who made me leave in anger. I wanted to stay at Yonghe Palace that day, but you kept urging me to leave and wouldn't let me stay there. Now you're saying that I didn't give you a way out."

Mingxiu fell silent, burying her head in Kangxi's arms and whimpering softly.

Kangxi's heart softened as he groaned, and the nameless anger that had been building up inside him vanished in an instant.

The two have made up completely. Mingxiu sat next to Kangxi, eating pastries and watching him review memorials. She would occasionally say a few words to Kangxi, acting coquettishly.

Emperor Kangxi was so bothered by her antics that he couldn't concentrate on reviewing the memorials. He had no choice but to put down his pen, walk over to Mingxiu, and pick her up to sit on his lap.

"How do you have quinine?" Kangxi asked casually while feeding Mingxiu some pastries.

Mingxiu swallowed the pastry in her mouth in small bites and said, "At first, I didn't know that it was called quinine. It was only after the imperial physician told me that I found out. Some of the medicines in it were bought from those Westerners before I entered the palace, and some medicines were collected for me by my younger brother Jiahui."

Emperor Kangxi asked with some curiosity, "Why are you collecting these?"

Mingxiu frowned, somewhat embarrassed, and said, "Hehe, before I entered the palace, I once had a high fever but didn't know it and fainted outside while playing. A Westerner happened to see me and gave me some medicine, and I got better. Moreover, the medicine wasn't bitter at all, it was even slightly sweet. I was very curious because all the medicines I took before were so bitter." As Mingxiu spoke, she seemed to remember the herbal medicines she used to take, wrinkled her nose, and continued, "After that, I would occasionally buy some Western medicines and store them. When I was sick, I would take some. But this medicine was rare, and it contained this. Later, when I entered the palace, I was afraid that I would get sick and not be able to call the imperial physician, so I brought some medicine with me. I didn't expect to use it at this time."

Kangxi nodded. "Yu Chenglong is really lucky. If it weren't for the medicine from my beloved concubine, he probably wouldn't have made it through."

Mingxiu nodded, feeling fortunate as well. "Since this medicine is so effective, Your Majesty might as well try to purchase some more, so that if someone falls ill in the future, there will be a way to treat them."

Mingxiu offered advice to Kangxi while nestled in his arms.

Kangxi nodded. His relationship with foreigners wasn't so strained anymore, so he could still buy some quinine if he wanted.

After finishing his thought, Kangxi took the plate from Mingxiu's hand, pinched her chubby cheeks, and said, "Don't eat anymore. If you eat any more later, you won't be able to eat your meal. Have a proper meal with me later."

Mingxiu pouted and nodded, then hugged Kangxi's neck affectionately and rubbed against him.

Kangxi pulled Mingxiu even tighter into his arms.

The entire Qianqing Palace felt as if it were bathed in a spring breeze, and the Emperor's temper had finally subsided.
