Chapter 225 Staying Up All Night

A few days after returning to the palace, everyone was packed up and taken to Changchun Garden. This time, the Empress Dowager did not go because she was unwell, and the Imperial Noble Consort did not go either because she had to take care of the Empress Dowager.

Mingxiu couldn't help but sigh again that being the head of the harem was really tough. She had to be responsible for everything. Mingxiu touched her heart and was glad that she didn't have to worry about these things, otherwise she felt that she would die a few days earlier.

Mingxiu watched Chenghuan wandering around in the fragrant forest, joining in the fun. She ignored her and let her play happily. She needed to catch up on some sleep. She had watched cartoons all night and had been packed up early this morning. Her eyelids felt so heavy that she couldn't open her eyes. She needed to sleep for a while.

When Mingxiu woke up, she saw that it was getting dark outside, stretched, got out of bed, grabbed something to tie her hair up, and went downstairs.

It was quiet downstairs. Mingxiu looked around and found no one there. She was a little curious about where everyone had gone.

Suddenly, bursts of laughter came from outside. It was immediately recognizable as Cheng Huan's signature laugh. No one knew who she had learned it from; her laughter was so distinctive, like a goose quacking.

Mingxiu curiously walked out and saw a crowd gathered in front of her, watching a goose and a dog fight. Chenghuan was sitting on a small stone stool nearby, laughing happily and clapping her hands from time to time. Yinzhi and Yinzhen were standing behind the goose and the dog, respectively. Further back were Yinzhi and Yinreng, who were watching the show with their arms crossed and looking smug.

Mingxiu's eyes twitched. Weren't these two familiar animals Yinzhi and Yinzhen's pets? What were they doing? If she remembered correctly, a long time ago, the two of them had used animals to fight in the Imperial Study and were punished by Emperor Kangxi. Had they forgotten?

Mingxiu quietly walked over, and the palace maids and eunuchs who saw her were about to speak when Mingxiu quietly stopped them.

So Mingxiu quietly went inside and stood behind Chenghuan to watch. When Lüzhu saw Mingxiu coming over, she quickly and quietly explained to Mingxiu what was going on.

Mingxiu had just gone upstairs to sleep when Yinreng and Yinzhi arrived. Luzhu saw the two princes and hurriedly went to greet them. Yinzhi had come to invite Mingxiu to dinner on behalf of his mother, who wanted to eat tofu today and wanted to invite Mingxiu to try it.

Yinreng went to see Mingxiu, and the two met on the road and came to Mingxiu's place together. Mingxiu nodded, intuitively feeling that what happened later must have happened during this meal.

Sure enough, after Yinzhi finished speaking, he was still complaining that he had just eaten a bowl of tofu pudding in the palace, but the sweet tofu pudding was so bad that he almost threw up. He didn't know why his mother liked it so much.

Yinreng disagreed, thinking that sweet tofu pudding was delicious, and although savory tofu pudding wasn't as good as the sweet one, it was still quite good. Then Yinzhi retorted, and since neither could win the argument, they suggested that others try it to determine the winner.

Then, their first target was actually the people who served Mingxiu in Linxiangshancui, but there happened to be an even number of people in Mingxiu's palace, half of whom liked sweet and half of whom liked salty. As a result, they couldn't decide who liked what, so they set their sights on the Third Prince and the Fourth Prince.

When the Third Prince and Fourth Prince arrived in a hurry, they ate the tofu pudding. One of them liked sweet and the other liked savory, so it ended in a draw. Yinreng and Yinzhi were even planning to find someone to settle the score, but someone suggested that they let the animals try it too. If even the animals liked it, then it must be really delicious.

After a moment of silence, both sides agreed. Then the Third Prince and the Fourth Prince brought over their pets. Mingxiu was speechless for a moment after hearing this, before continuing to listen to Green Bamboo explain how it ended up as animals fighting.

After the tofu pudding was brought over, the two animals unexpectedly ate both sweet and savory tofu puddings. As a result, there was no way to stop them. However, Yinreng and Yinzhi still refused to admit defeat, so it turned into a duel between the two animals. If they fought, they would be punished by their father, but animals would not be punished. So, the animals were the ones who fought, and the owner's opinion was that whoever won was right.

Mingxiu listened in silence the whole time, looking at the two adults and two children next to her, and then at Chenghuan who seemed to know nothing and was having fun. She didn't know what to say, but she felt that if Chenghuan wasn't so young, this decision might have fallen on her.

After a moment of silence, Mingxiu also turned her attention to the two animals with great interest, silently cheering on Yinzhen's puppy. She also thought the sweet tofu pudding was delicious.

The farce ended when Consort Hui, having waited in vain for anyone to arrive, came looking for them herself and saw this scene, followed by a loud shout.

Mingxiu was a little disappointed that in the end, no winner was decided.

After hearing the whole story, Consort Hui silently dragged Yinzhi away, forgetting to invite Mingxiu to her place for dinner when she had time. She decided to skip it today because it was too late.

Mingxiu looked up at the dark sky and nodded happily.

Mingxiu took the still somewhat regretful Yinreng Chenghuan and Yinzhen, along with the clueless Chenghuan, back home. As for Yinzhi Rongpin, who was still waiting for him to come back for dinner, Mingxiu decided not to keep him there for dinner.

The four of them enjoyed a delicious dinner. Seeing that Yinzhen's little Pekingese had also contributed to the honor of Sweet Tofu Pudding today, Mingxiu was happy and secretly added some dog food for him. The little Pekingese, who was unaware of the world's customs, stared wide-eyed at the food.

After dinner, Chenghuan and the others played with Chenghuan for a while. Although the little Pekingese had been raised by Yinzhen for a long time, it didn't seem to have grown much and still looked very cute.

It had a yellow shirt with the character "福" (fortune) on it, and its big, watery eyes stared at people. It was very cute. Mingxiu stroked its shiny fur, which made the little Pekingese even more affectionate towards Mingxiu.

Yinzhen watched from the side with great surprise. Although his little Pekingese was usually very docile, it only meant it didn't resist. He had never seen it so close to anyone before.

Mingxiu was overjoyed to see the little Pekingese rubbing against her and her daughter looking on with envy. It was truly the power of technology! Modern dog food was made according to the nutritional needs of dogs and was also very delicious. How could the little Pekingese not be mesmerized by the aroma on its first try?

After the four of them played for a while, Mingxiu had someone send Yinreng and Yinzhen back. Chenghuan had been exercising too much today and had long since exhausted her energy and fallen asleep. Mingxiu, on the other hand, was not sleepy now because she had slept for a long time during the day.

Then I happily started watching cartoons, since I had nothing better to do than not be able to sleep anyway.

She felt she could manage, that she could hold on, and that she was determined to finish watching it today.
