A short while later, Green Bamboo brought Cheng Huan in. Cheng Huan still looked bewildered when she came in. Her aunt Green Bamboo said that her mother wanted to see her, but she didn't say what it was.
I don't know why my mother wanted to see her.
Mingxiu's lips twitched as she watched Chenghuan walk in.
"Your mother is asking you what you did in the Imperial Study today."
Ah, Cheng Huan tried hard to open her eyes wide, thinking about what she had done, but she still couldn't remember for a long time.
She looked at Mingxiu innocently.
Mingxiu was so charmed by her eyes that she almost lost her composure. The main reason was that those eyes really resembled Emperor Kangxi's, making it hard to be ruthless towards him.
However, Mingxiu managed to maintain her composure, as today's events had truly caused her, as a mother, to lose face.
"I'm asking you, what did you say at school today? The Grand Tutor even came to me to complain about it."
Chenghuan stared wide-eyed at Mingxiu in disbelief, clearly not expecting the Grand Tutor to complain to Mingxiu.
But she still honestly said, "Mother, I really can't remember. Could you give me a hint?" Cheng Huan even held up two fingers as she spoke.
You can tell at a glance that he's Mingxiu's biological son; his mannerisms are exactly the same as Mingxiu's.
Mingxiu choked for a moment, then looked at the person who seemed genuinely unaware of the matter and said, "Did you explain things about menstruation to your sisters in the study today?"
Cheng Huan nodded. She had mentioned it, but was there a problem with it?
Today, she noticed that one of the older women wasn't feeling well, and wondered what was wrong, so she specifically asked about it. After finding out, she greeted them and, seeing their embarrassed expressions, even explained something to them. Although the women's faces were flushed, they seemed to be listening very attentively. Was there a problem?
Mingxiu looked at her expression, which seemed to indicate that she didn't know what she had done wrong, and slapped her forehead: "What you said is fine, but you should also pay attention to the occasion. Didn't you see that there were many teachers standing behind you? And why did you argue with the Grand Tutor after you finished speaking, and almost got into a fight?"
This is what really frustrates Mingxiu. If you're going to give a presentation, at least do it somewhere else. There are men standing behind them, how can your sisters' expressions be right?
"Mother, this is not my fault. My sisters and I were talking to each other, but they insisted on listening outside. After they heard it, they insisted that what I said was wrong, and that such obscene things should not be discussed in the sacred classroom. Mother, you have told me this since I was little. How is such a thing obscene? I tried to reason with them, but they wouldn't listen, and they even dared to come and complain." Cheng Huan's face turned red with anger when she heard that someone had come to complain. It seemed that she hadn't been beaten enough today.
I should have focused on the key points earlier.
Seeing Chenghuan's indignant expression, Mingxiu beckoned her to come to her side: "Mother Consort didn't say you did wrong, but she didn't say you did right either. Do you know where your problem lies?"
Cheng Huan tilted her head back, clearly not thinking she had done anything wrong.
Mingxiu sighed: "The mistake is that you are a woman and he is a man. The mistake is that you should not have used force, but should have tried to persuade them with reason. Once you used force, they became the weaker party. People always pity the weak, so you are in the wrong, you know?"
Cheng Huan shook her head, not quite understanding.
"You have to understand that this world is dominated by men, and men have a lot of say. So they always think that what they say is right and what women say is wrong. So when you speak, their first reaction is to oppose you and say that you are wrong."
Cheng Huan nodded.
"It's also because they think you're wrong, and since women have no voice, they also think that menstruation is dirty. You didn't win when you argued with him because it's not just him who thinks that way, but basically all men in the world think that way. But you're the only one on your side, so you don't have that confidence when you speak."
After Mingxiu finished speaking, she looked at Chenghuan and said, "You hit them later because you couldn't argue with them, but it was also partly because you were angry and embarrassed. When you were talking, your sister subconsciously thought that what they said was right, so she didn't speak up for you. So you couldn't argue with them, and then you hit them. But the moment you hit them, it proved that you were wrong, because you didn't say anything to them, and you just started being unreasonable."
"Moreover, another reason why you can't out-argue them is that you lack their cultural background. That's their confidence. They've studied hard for so many years, and they've learned countless things. They speak in classical Chinese, and you can't understand what they mean at all. How can you possibly out-argue them?"
"And lastly, it's because they are Grand Tutors, your teachers. You'll be criticized for hitting your teachers, especially in class. That's why I said you were wrong."
Cheng Huan stood there stunned after hearing her mother's words, but...
She wanted to refute, but suddenly didn't know how, because what she had done today was exactly what her mother had said. She clearly felt that what she said was right, but she just couldn't win the argument.
Later, she felt embarrassed because she couldn't argue with them and her sisters didn't come to her aid, so she became angry out of embarrassment.
"Then Mother, what should you do if you were in my shoes?" Cheng Huan was somewhat confused. She didn't think she was wrong, but she didn't know what the right thing to do was.
