Kangxi nodded with a smile.
Then the two of them stood and watched the old man get into the car and leave, and then continued to move things into their home.
Meeting the old man was an accident. Mingxiu and Kangxi were playing chess in the courtyard again, and the door was not closed. The old man, who had gone out for a walk, saw them and heard Kangxi's comments about playing chess. He couldn't resist and came in to play chess with Kangxi. From then on, there was no stopping him.
The two often played chess together. Later, Kangxi secretly told Mingxiu that the old man was probably no ordinary person. Kangxi had never found a suitable chess partner before, but he found playing with this old man very enjoyable. However, the old man's chess skills were not those of an ordinary person.
But this had nothing to do with Mingxiu and the others. Mingxiu treated him as an ordinary old man. Sometimes the two of them would play chess together. There was only the old man, a bodyguard, and an aunt at home. Sometimes Mingxiu would invite him to stay for a meal or something.
Mingxiu and Kangxi tidied up the courtyard, spending half a day just pasting couplets and windows to make sure every door in the house had something on it. They also hung many colorful lanterns outside in the open spaces, making the whole courtyard look festive and bright.
On the eve of the Lunar New Year, Mingxiu prepared a table full of delicious dishes, including braised fish, sweet and sour pork ribs, sweet and sour pork with pineapple, boiled shrimp, boiled okra, and many more. Only after making such a full meal did the feast end.
Kangxi looked at the table full of dishes with a helpless expression: "We can't finish all of this. You must have worked so hard to cook so many dishes. If we had known, we would have just had someone deliver them."
Mingxiu shook her head: "How can that be the same? We can just order takeout normally, but today is Chinese New Year, so of course we have to cook for ourselves to feel the joy. Okay, hurry up and bring the wine over, let's have a good meal tonight."
What could Kangxi do? He could only take a bottle of wine from the shelf. This wine was made from grapes and water from his space and had been aged for a long time. It had a mellow taste and a low alcohol content. Mingxiu liked to drink it and would have a little every now and then. Kangxi was momentarily stunned by Mingxiu's smile, and nodded with a slight smile.

After a night of indulgence, when Mingxiu woke up in the morning, she touched her throbbing head and looked around at the surroundings in a daze.

Mingxiu nodded, picked up the honey water and drank it. After she finished drinking, her mind gradually cleared up, and she realized that she had probably drunk too much last night.
Kangxi looked at Mingxiu's ingratiating smile and shook his head: "Alright, get up quickly, no sleeping in today."
Mingxiu nodded, got up to wash up, and then changed into a red two-piece jacket with soft fur trim on the cuffs and collar, which was super warm.
Today, Emperor Kangxi was also wearing a qipao with a vest on top. If it weren't for the fact that Kangxi's hair and appearance were different from before, Mingxiu would have thought that time and space were out of sync.
"I wonder what Your Majesty plans to do today? May I do it for you?" Mingxiu curtsied and looked up, speaking in a strange manner.
With one hand behind his back and the other in front, Kangxi walked to Mingxiu's side, pulled her up, and said, "There's nothing wrong, but the weather is nice today. I'm planning to paint a picture. I wonder if my beloved consort could join in the fun?"
"Of course, how could I refuse His Majesty's invitation?" Mingxiu said with a smile.
As he spoke, he took out a flute, preparing to play a tune, while Kangxi carried the table outside.
It was still snowing heavily outside. After a night of snow, everything was covered in snow, creating a unique and beautiful scene. Mingxiu simply took out all the tea-making tools, ready to enjoy the pleasure of brewing tea around the stove. She simmered the tea over a low flame. Seeing that Kangxi was ready, Mingxiu took the flute and gently opened her lips, playing a light and elegant melody.
Kangxi looked at the woman with her curved eyebrows and eyes full of smiles in the snow.
Just a wall away, Grandpa Zhuang sat in the pavilion next door, listening to the sounds from next door with his eyes gently closed, swaying his head as he enjoyed the music.
“Sir, shouldn’t we investigate the two people next door? I feel there’s something too much of a coincidence going on,” said the bodyguard standing nearby.
Grandpa Zhuang shook his head: "No need. It's normal for people to move into their houses here. Besides, I trust my judgment. These two people are both clear-headed and not people with ill intentions."
The bodyguard was about to say something when Old Master Zhuang stopped him.
Smelling the aroma of tea wafting from next door, Grandpa Zhuang took a deep breath and sipped the tea beside him. He had taken this tea from Xiao Ye's house when they played chess last time. He didn't know how it was made, but the aroma was so unique that he couldn't put it down.
