Chapter 437 Modern Side Story Twenty-Nine

"Yes, yes, Ms. Lin, you haven't been here long enough to know that the family in front of you really had a huge fight over how many daughters they had. In the end, it's because the adults are incompetent. If they were capable, why would they care about such a small amount of money?" the neighbor sighed.

“Yes, yes, not everyone is like Ms. Lin’s family, where the adults are so capable and the family is not short of money, so they don’t care about these things,” said Neighbor B.

Lin Lin gave a forced smile and said, "Take your time then. Okay, I'm not talking to you anymore. I need to hurry and see my daughter-in-law." With that, he turned and left.

Mingxiu smiled as she watched Lin Lin walk in, then closed the door and breathed a huge sigh of relief.

"Oh my god, that's terrifying! These old ladies are really good with their mouths." Lin Lin turned around and saw Mingxiu sitting in the yard with a smile, listening to what was going on. He said a little embarrassedly.

Hearing Lin Lin's words, Mingxiu wholeheartedly agreed. She had no idea that there were so many elderly people living in this alley. She had only ever seen Grandpa Zhuang before, and she didn't know where he had suddenly appeared from. She hadn't paid any attention to him before.

“Yes, I’ve never seen anything like this before. Actually, I had no idea there were so many people in this alley,” Mingxiu said with some surprise.

Lin Lin nodded. "By the way, isn't there some kind of old man named Zhuang on this street? I've heard you mention him before, but I haven't seen him lately. However..."

Mingxiu said, "I did visit when I first came back, but I don't think I knocked on the door and no one answered. So he probably didn't come back. But don't worry, Mom. What Grandpa Zhuang likes most is our tea and your son's chess. As soon as he comes back, the two of them will definitely play a few games."

Lin Lin nodded, "That's fine then. I've vaguely heard that the old man Zhuang next door seems to have a special identity. It would be good to befriend him, but it doesn't matter if we're not."

Mingxiu nodded with a smile and said nothing more.

Lin Lin still has a career abroad, so he can't stay here for long. After a month, he went back abroad after the New Year.

This was the first time Mingxiu and his family had spent the New Year with their parents since they came into this world, and Mingxiu was quite careful, preparing all the rituals and everything to the best of their ability.

After the New Year, Grandpa Zhuang returned, right after Linlin left.

Mingxiu stood at the gate of the courtyard, smiling as she looked at Grandpa Zhuang's car. "Oh, Grandpa's back! It's been a long time!"

"It really has been a long time. Oh, congratulations, Xiaoxiao!" Grandpa Zhuang said as he got out of the car with his cane and saw Mingxiu with her pregnant belly.

"Thank you, sir. It's been so long. Would you like to come in and have a seat?" Mingxiu warmly invited him in.

"Grandpa, I'd like to too, but the car ride is too tiring. My old bones just can't take it anymore. You know, all these kids have been saying no, but they insist on taking me. Nothing beats being at home. I stayed there for a few days, but after the New Year, I just couldn't take it anymore. It's much more comfortable to go back to my own little place. After I rest a bit, I'll definitely come over for a visit. Tell your little Xuan to get ready." Grandpa Zhuang said with a smile.

"Alright, we'll definitely be waiting for you, sir. You should go back and get some rest," Mingxiu said.

"Okay, sure, by the way, Mingxiu, this is a New Year's gift I prepared for you. I didn't know you were pregnant beforehand, so I didn't prepare a gift for the baby. I'll make it up to you later." The old man said, having someone take some gifts out of the trunk.

"Grandpa, you're too kind. Thank you very much." Mingxiu didn't stand on ceremony. They were already quite familiar with each other, and being too polite would seem hypocritical, especially to a shrewd person like the old man.

"Haha, hahaha, no need to be so polite. Xiao Li, hurry up and take him home. Xiao Mingxiu, you should also hurry home and get some rest. Your belly looks like it's been working hard." Old Master Zhuang said.

"Alright, Grandpa, I'll head back now. You should go back and rest too. We'll get together again when we have time," Mingxiu said with a smile, then turned and went home.

Kangxi had just seen Lin Lin off when he returned to find many more things in the house, and he could also hear some noises from next door. Raising an eyebrow, he chuckled, "The old man next door is back."

Mingxiu nodded with a smile, "Yes, I just ran into them and they told me to remind you to be prepared, because they might come over to ask for advice at any time."

Kangxi nodded, "Then I will naturally welcome you anytime." He walked over to Mingxiu, sat down in a chair, and massaged her lower back. "How are you feeling today? Are you feeling unwell? Is the baby in your belly kicking you?"

Mingxiu shook her head. "No, the child is very well-behaved. Has Mom already sent him away?"

"Yes, they've already been sent away," he said casually.

Mingxiu nodded and saw her off. Although Lin Lin was a very open and easy-going mother-in-law, Mingxiu still felt a bit restrained when she was with her. It wasn't as comfortable as when she and Kangxi were at home alone. So she breathed a sigh of relief after Lin Lin left.

Kangxi looked at Mingxiu with amusement.

"You just can't hide your thoughts at all, really."
