Chapter 93 Younger Brother

After letting Yinreng go to sleep, Mingxiu and Kangxi also finished eating.

In the room, Mingxiu had just finished bathing when she saw Kangxi sitting at his desk, frowning as he looked at the things on the table. He was wearing a bright yellow silk nightgown, revealing a glimpse of his tanned skin on his chest, which looked firm and toned. His loose hair was gently tied back.

Mingxiu swallowed hard. Sure enough, work is a magnet for a man's charm; he's just too handsome.

Upon approaching and seeing what Kangxi was holding, Mingxiu coughed lightly twice and sat down quietly to watch Kangxi.

She seemed completely indifferent, since her handwriting was already like that, and there was no way she could write it well, so she simply gave up and let it be, as long as she could pick out a few characters that were written well.

When Kangxi heard the commotion behind him and turned around, this was the scene he saw. For a moment, he didn't know how to describe his feelings; he had never seen such an unambitious person.

So many people want his guidance, but she doesn't care at all, and even acts like she's given up on everything, which is really infuriating.

Just as he was about to lose his temper, he saw Mingxiu resting her chin on her hands, winking at him, and smiling foolishly. Instantly, the fire in his chest was extinguished, leaving not a single spark.

I could only helplessly comfort myself, oh well, I know what kind of person she is. She's always been like this, so don't take it to heart. It's no use taking it to heart; it'll only make me angry in the end.

Well, that's about the only area where she's not very good; she's quite good at everything else.

Kangxi comforted himself in this way, put down the paper in his hand, sat down next to Mingxiu, and reached out to tap her forehead.

Mingxiu cried out in pain, pouted, and looked at Kangxi with a wronged expression.

Emperor Kangxi calmly took a sip of tea, sighed contentedly, and then drank a couple more sips of the purplish-red tea in the cup.

Mingxiu doesn't like drinking tea, so the tea she has here isn't really regular tea. It's usually made with various starter teas depending on her physical condition and the season. She didn't really like drinking it before, but this tea tastes quite good. It's sour and helps to cut through the greasiness.

Mingxiu saw that Kangxi was still ignoring her and was just sitting there drinking his beverage. She got angry, snorted heavily, and became even more resentful.

Kangxi reluctantly put down his cup and looked at Mingxiu, who was pouting at him. The pouting made all the flesh on her cheeks gather together, and he couldn't help but pinch it.

In a flash, she pried open Mingxiumin's lips.

Seeing Mingxiu's somewhat incredulous look, Kangxi coughed awkwardly.

"Alright, what's wrong with you? Look at your handwriting. I'm embarrassed to even say anything to you. You've been practicing for so long, and you're still not as good as Bao Cheng," Kangxi said helplessly.

Mingxiu felt a little guilty, then said helplessly, "Your Majesty, it's really not that I don't want to write, it's just that I really can't write well. You see, I'm good at everything except calligraphy and painting, so it's clear I really don't have any talent in this area. Maybe I should just stop writing from now on?"

She looked at Kangxi with a pleading expression, hoping he would grant her request, as practicing calligraphy was truly too painful.

Kangxi didn't even raise his head, shook his head slightly, and directly rejected her: "Practicing calligraphy requires persistence. One or two years may not be useful, but three or four years will always be useful, and if that doesn't work, ten or eight years will be. Anyway, you have plenty of time."

Mingxiu's expectant expression vanished instantly, and she looked at Kangxi with some annoyance: "Your Majesty, do you despise me? Besides, no matter how well I write, it's useless. I won't take the imperial examination. Your Majesty, please let me off the hook."

Kangxi chuckled and looked at Mingxiu with amusement: "Someone like you wants to take the imperial examination? Forget it, it's really embarrassing. But your younger brother seems quite good to me, maybe he'll have a chance to try."

Mingxiu's previously sullen face instantly changed, and she looked at Kangxi with surprise: "Your Majesty, are you mistaken? Did my younger brother go to take the exam?"

Her younger brother, Jia Hui, was still very young in my memory; how come he's already gone to take exams?

Kangxi glanced at Mingxiu speechlessly, and Mingxiu strangely understood his look.

A moment of silence.

Since she arrived, she hasn't had much contact with her family. Firstly, she's afraid of being exposed, and secondly, she's not used to it. But even though we haven't met, we've kept in touch.

Mingxiu couldn't easily write letters while in the palace, but her younger brother wrote to her frequently, so she learned some things about the family. For example, because Mingxiu was now the emperor's favorite concubine, Yehenara didn't dare to be too unreasonable towards her.

Ama often takes him out to meet people and frequently cares about his daily life and studies, so he is living a pretty good life.

The children born to Yehenara have grown up, but because of Mingxiu, they dare not bully others too much. Jia Hui still reminds her father not to let his sister's influence affect his behavior.

He bullied others and caused trouble for his sister. However, thanks to the previous rewards and the Emperor's favor towards his sister, the family was doing well, so Mingxiu didn't need to worry.

In short, these were all letters that reported bad news and not good news. Mingxiu would reply to each one carefully. Putting everything else aside, Mingxiu really liked this younger brother, but he hadn't heard anything about him taking an exam.

"Your Majesty, please tell me, I really didn't hear anything from my family." Mingxiu sat down next to Kangxi, took his arm, and began to act coquettishly.

"Are you not angry anymore?" Kangxi asked indifferently.

Mingxiu shook her head, no longer angry.

After looking at Mingxiu for a while, Kangxi slowly said, "Your younger brother has not yet participated in this year's imperial examination, but he has already become the top scholar. I think he will participate in the next examination. I have read his examination paper, and it is very well written. If he continues to be at this level, he will have a great future."

This is the truth. Manchus were not as diligent in their studies as Han Chinese. Moreover, most Manchu families held official positions, and when it came time to take office, their families would arrange a position for them. Very few people would study so hard to become the top scholar in the imperial examinations.

Mingxiu smiled, pursing her lips, as if she could see the shadow of the child in her memory who clamored to grow up and protect his sister. But the child was almost grown up and able to protect his sister, while the sister who promised to let her younger brother protect her was no longer there.

Thankfully, she is still living happily in another world. Knowing how outstanding her younger brother is, she must be very gratified.

After marveling at her younger brother's progress, the matter between the two was resolved. Although Mingxiu spent the whole night trying to persuade Kangxi to stop practicing calligraphy, she still couldn't get him to agree and didn't get a good night's sleep.

After being tossed and turned in bed, Mingxiu finally couldn't take it anymore and bit Kangxi.
