Everyone in the manor knew that the masters doted on the little princess.
Everyone was generous in showing Jingrou the utmost kindness. Wherever she went, the maids and servants were always smiling and incredibly patient.
The palace has always been a place of flattery and condescension. Although the situation in the Prince's Mansion is better than in the palace, there are many servants in the Prince's Mansion who were originally bestowed by the Imperial Household Department. Even those maids who were bought from outside later all think that they are working in the Prince's Mansion and act with great style, bringing with them their old habits from the palace.
They are very familiar with the routine of smiling at people and speaking human language to humans and ghost language to ghosts.
Jingrou knew that some people were not convinced by her.
They might think that it's not worth treating a little girl like that, or they might have all sorts of malicious intent, after all, she's not a real three or four-year-old child!
Although she knew it, Jingrou never expected to run into it directly.
"A courtyard all to herself... the princess is spoiling her rotten..."
Jingrou led the people through the garden.
When she woke up today, she saw her wet nurse arranging for people to tidy up the flower branches, so she thought she would go over to the garden and pick a few flower branches for her grandmother to put in a vase.
To get around the garden, we would have to walk a bit further, but we didn't expect to hear a noise ahead as soon as we turned the corner.
She didn't have many people with her. Besides her wet nurse, she only had a maidservant, who was trained by the wet nurse and would likely become her head maidservant in the future.
"This servant is puzzled. The young master is the princess's own grandson, yet he is being treated like this, not even as well as a little maid..." The voice was somewhat indignant.
The wet nurse peeked over and saw an old woman dressed in dark clothes and a maid in light green clothes. The maid looked quite young, and it was she who had just spoken.
As for the old woman, she just stood there with a frown on her face.
The maid, Green Luo, was furious. She recognized the voices of the people nearby as referring to her young mistress. She had been sent to her mistress's side two years ago, having been sold into the Prince's mansion. Her mother had sold her, her daughter, because of a famine in the family.
Disheartened, she had no intention of leaving the palace once she entered. Naturally, she was determined to serve her mistress wholeheartedly. Now, hearing someone speak like this, with words that were meant to sow discord, she was furious.
Jingrou could tell too.
The wet nurse looked extremely unwell and instinctively wanted to step forward and drag out the two audacious servants, but Jingrou tugged at her sleeve and stopped her.
The wet nurse glanced at Jingrou in surprise, her expression quickly turning to worry. She didn't know if her young mistress could understand what the old woman in front had said... She subconsciously didn't want her young mistress to know that others didn't like her. If she did, how heartbroken her young mistress would be!
“Mama Chen! No, godmother… I shouldn’t be so nosy, but Young Master March trusts Miss so much, yet he’s being treated so unfairly. Even I can’t bear to see it!” The little maid continued to chatter.
Green Ivy understood immediately; it turned out to be someone from Young Master March's side. March was none other than Jingrou's second aunt's youngest son, the very child she had given birth to. It was this child that had brought her back to the capital.
March is two years older than Jingrou and is currently studying. Prince An found him a tutor. Compared to his other cousins, he is more quiet and reserved. Not long ago, he finally finished writing his most satisfying piece of calligraphy and hurriedly sent it to Jingrou, which shows how good the relationship between the two siblings is.
This person actually wants to sow discord between the two?
“I understand your good intentions…” Mrs. Chen nodded solemnly.
She wasn't born into the royal household; she was able to take over from the previous servant of March because the former servant had fallen ill. However, after arriving at Baltu's side, her life wasn't easy due to her unstable position and unfamiliarity with the place.
Fortunately, she had this thoughtful girl to keep her company, which put Chen's mother at ease.
"It's good that your godmother understands... Young Master March will inevitably be a part of our livelihood in the future... If the Prince and Princess don't value him, how can he amount to anything? Young Master March is still young, so it's inevitable that your godmother will have to worry about him. After all, your godmother is his most trusted and favored person!" The maid in green seemed satisfied and continued to flatter him.
Mrs. Chen was even more pleased. One of the things she liked most about this girl was her quick wit and ability to always make her laugh.
I don't know if she's pleased with herself, but I'm afraid you won't be so pleased with yourself.
A childish voice, however, struck the two women like a thunderbolt. They shuddered and turned their heads to look at it, their faces turning pale.
It was Jingrou who said those words.
The wet nurse and Green Ivy beside Jingrou were angry, but unexpectedly, their young lady spoke first.
Jingrou frowned. She hadn't planned to speak up and could have quietly gone to her grandmother to complain, but the two of them were getting more and more outrageous and had even involved her little cousin, so she had no choice but to speak up.
They actually wanted to sow discord between March's cousin...
When you find one cockroach, the entire kitchen may already be infested with them.
Could it be that others have similar thoughts? There are just too many people in the Prince's mansion, and everyone has their own agenda. Who knows if this is the first case?
Jingrou was no longer willing to endure it.
Besides, she's just a child. When she hears someone talking badly about her, shouldn't she stand up and angrily rebuke the other person?
