Chapter 74 Thousand-Year Ginseng

"If you want people to stop talking, shouldn't you at least offer some benefits? You've been a servant for so many years, don't you understand this simple principle?" Wan'er looked at Yu Yan with disdain in her eyes.

Ten taels of gold were nothing to her, but for a palace maid's meager salary, it was a lifetime's savings.

If Wan'er doesn't severely punish Yu Yan, she won't be able to quell her hatred.

For now, she's just taking some of her possessions; when the time is right, she'll definitely make sure her head rolls.

"Your Majesty is absolutely right, I have learned a lot." Yu Yan could only accept it, enduring the great pain in her heart, and placed the purse at her waist into Qi Lan's hand.

Seeing Qi Lan holding the purse, Wan'er smiled knowingly, then called a maid to take Qi Lan away and summon the imperial physician.

"You may leave now. I'm tired after all this commotion," Wan'er said, waving to Yu Yan.

"Yes!" Yu Yan bowed her head and said, then seemed to remember something, raised her eyes and said, "Your Highness, the medicine has been spilled. This servant will brew another bowl for you. Drink the medicine and then go to sleep!"

Qi Lan's interruption almost made her forget her business.

But Wan'er wouldn't let her get away with it. She hurriedly said, "All medicines have some toxicity. It's best to drink less. Besides, my body is already 70% recovered, so there's no need to drink such bitter medicine anymore."

“But…” Yu Yan opened her mouth, trying to persuade her.

But Wan'er didn't want to waste her breath arguing with her, so she waved Yu Yan away, saying, "Go down quickly, I need to rest."

Seeing this, Yu Yan had no choice but to give up, bow her head and take her leave. Although she was very unwilling, she dared not disobey any further. After all, Wan'er now had enough power to give orders and could take her life at any time.

After watching Yu Yan slink away, Wan'er dragged herself back to bed and said to the system, "The task is complete, please withdraw your power."

"Alright!" the system replied. "You used half an hour this time, so 30,000 will be deducted."

"Thirty thousand!" Wan'er was heartbroken, but with a glimmer of hope, she tried to bargain, "Could you make it cheaper?"

Although she felt heartbroken, she had no regrets whatsoever.

"No, the rules are the rules, and they cannot be violated."

"Hmph!" Wan'er pouted and snorted, "What a heartless system."

"Say what you will." The system chuckled, and after seeing that the balance had decreased by 30,000, it fell silent.

Immediately afterwards, Wan'er's body felt as if its bones had been removed, and she collapsed onto the bed. Large beads of sweat covered her forehead.

"Damn it!" she muttered, praying that she would recover soon.

But the more anxious she became, the more things went against her wishes. After an unknown amount of time, her body could no longer hold on, and she fell into a deep sleep.

When she woke up, it was already getting dark. Perhaps because she hadn't taken the medicine that Yu Yan had given her, she felt that she had regained some strength and was able to sit up on her own.

"It seems I'll be able to get out of bed in a couple of days." A bright smile appeared on her face at the thought.

Just then, footsteps sounded outside the door. She quickly suppressed her smile and pretended to be weak as she lay back down on the bed.

A moment later, the door was pushed open, and a scent of ambergris wafted in.

She looked up and saw that the newcomer was wearing a yellow robe, which fluttered like a celestial being. He was tall and slender with delicate features. His phoenix eyes were smiling, and anyone who looked at him would be captivated. He was also holding an exquisite wooden box in his hand.

"She really looks like Yu'er," Wan'er muttered.

Since he resembles Da Yu'er, this person must be Fu Lin.

"Your Majesty, I will give this to you..."

She was about to rise and bow, but Fu Lin stopped her, saying, "Wan'er, please don't bother with formalities."

"Thank you, Your Majesty." Wan'er lay back down, not wanting to waste her energy on such elaborate formalities.

Fu Lin sat down by the bedside, looking at her pale and haggard face, and couldn't help but reach out and touch it. "Are you feeling any better?"

"Thanks to His Majesty's blessings, I'm much better now," Wan'er said, though her words didn't reflect her true feelings.

As soon as she finished speaking, Fu Lin frowned and said, "Wan'er, there's no need for such formalities between us."

His tone was reproachful, but even more so, it was full of heartache.

"Your Majesty," Wan'er called out, her eyes reddening, looking extremely aggrieved, "There are eyes everywhere in this palace, and Wan'er is afraid of saying the wrong thing and attracting some criticism."

"Don't worry, Wan'er, there are only the two of us in this hall, no one will gossip," Fu Lin comforted her.

Wan'er looked around and, seeing that no one was following Fu Lin, breathed a sigh of relief.

"By the way, this is a thousand-year-old ginseng that my brother found in Baishan. I thought your body was too weak, and perhaps this medicine would be of great help to you." After saying that, he opened the long wooden box in his hand and placed it in front of Wan'er.

"It really is a thousand-year-old ginseng!" Wan'er thought to herself. Being ignorant, she saw a ginseng that was nearly a meter tall for the first time, and her eyes widened in surprise. Fortunately, she came to her senses and quickly recovered her surprised expression.

"This is too precious, Your Majesty..." She was about to suggest that Fulin keep it for himself when she suddenly remembered something, "Myna? Which myna?"

Fu Lin smiled and said, "How many eighth brothers could I possibly have? Of course, it's the carefree prince who guards Baishan."

"Is he the son of Consort Chen?" Wan'er asked, completely unexpected that she would hear about the outcome of the previous mission during her next mission.

Fu Lin nodded, gently stroking Wan'er's little nose. "Wan'er, are you delirious from your illness?"

"I seem to be a little confused." Wan'er smiled awkwardly, but she was not giving up and asked weakly, "Then what about Consort Chen? Which palace is she living in now?"
