Chapter 78 Poisonous Spider

Wan'er shook her head slightly and replied, "The gift given to the Third Prince should not be too meager."

"Since Your Highness has given the order, this servant will obey and proceed to Jingren Palace." After saying this, Yu Yan carefully tucked the wooden box into her bosom, as if it were her own.

"Hurry up! The sun will get too strong if we wait any longer," Wan'er urged.

Yu Yan responded and then left.

After she left, Wan'er sat back down in front of the mirror, touching the osmanthus oil in front of her, and said, "Yu Yan, how could I not know your little schemes?"

It turned out that the osmanthus oil had a trace of chicken blood in it, so when Yu Yan was dressing herself up, her hands would naturally get osmanthus oil on them.

Thinking of this, she smiled.

Besides the jade necklace, the wooden box also contained a slightly poisonous spider. If Yu Yan wanted to possess it, the spider would bite her hand fiercely as soon as she opened it, drawn by the scent.

However, Wan'er also considered the possibility that Yu Yan might resist her greed and actually send the wooden box to Jingren Palace.

So she told Qi Lan to wait on the way to Jingren Palace, ready to bump into him if necessary and thus switch the items.

But this was clearly unnecessary. After she cleaned the osmanthus oil off her hair, she saw Yu Yan walking towards her with a livid face and her lips tinged with a faint black hue.

"Your Majesty, how could you do this? The Third Prince is still so young, there's no need to be so cruel as to kill him." Yu Yan said, bowing reluctantly.

"What are you saying? I don't understand." Wan'er frowned, pretending to look at her with a blank expression.

Without Wan'er's permission, Yu Yan rose as usual, placing the scars on her arm in front of Wan'er's eyes, "Does Your Majesty really not understand?"

Wan'er shook her head, her confused expression revealing no flaw whatsoever.

Now Yu Yan was somewhat convinced that she really didn't know anything, so she asked again, "Did you really not put the spider in the wooden box?"

"What? There's a spider in the wooden box?" Wan'er stood up in surprise, her bright eyes filled with shock.

Such a seamless performance left Yu Yan with no choice but to believe it: "That's right, there was a spider in the wooden box, and it bit me."

Wan'er gasped, glanced at her wound, and said with a pained look, "It must be that you ran in when I was putting on the collar, causing you to suffer."

If the mastermind hadn't been caught, she would have released a poisonous spider that would have killed someone within hours.

"Really?" Yu Yan still had doubts.

Wan'er explained calmly, "Even I'm afraid of this thing, how could I dare to catch it with my bare hands?"

Yu Yan pouted, agreeing with her words, but still said with dissatisfaction, "Next time Your Highness should be more careful when putting things away. Luckily it was me who was bitten this time, if it had been the Third Prince..."

Upon hearing this, Wan'er knew that she had come to claim credit and reward, so how could she give in to her wishes? She interrupted, "Why did you think of opening the wooden box back then?"

“Uh…this…” Yu Yan was speechless for a moment. No matter how much Wan’er trusted her, she couldn’t say that she wanted to possess her.

She originally intended to deliberately trip and fall to trick Wan'er into thinking the treasure was damaged, but unexpectedly, as soon as she opened the wooden box, a spider bit her wrist, scaring her so much that she threw the wooden box down hard on the spot, and now the jade necklace was really broken.

"What's wrong?" Wan'er walked forward step by step, as if pressing for an answer.

But Yu Yan wasn't entirely stupid; she immediately came up with a reason to escape: "Your Highness is always careless. I'm afraid that if there are any flaws in the necklace, Consort Tong will be dissatisfied and think that you're stingy and trying to make do with a substandard product. That would make it seem like you're not sincere."

She spoke as if it were the truth, as if she genuinely cared for Wan'er.

Wan'er had no choice but to agree, "You're so thoughtful. With you by my side, I can have much less to worry about."

"It is my good fortune to be able to serve Your Highness," Yu Yan said insincerely.

Wan'er nodded, "When we're alone, there's no need for us sisters to be so polite."

"Yes, thank you, Your Majesty." Yu Yan smiled obediently.

At this moment, Wan'er stroked her wrist, "Seeing that you are poisoned, I can't force you to stay by my side to serve me."

Yu Yan naturally didn't stand on ceremony, "Thank you for your understanding, Your Majesty."

Wan'er smiled faintly, "Now we can only have Qi Lan come and serve us."

"That's the only way." She didn't care whether Qi Lan was injured or not.

"In that case, please give this medicine to Qi Lan for me. After you've applied it, come and serve her!" Wan'er said, taking a porcelain bottle out of her sleeve and handing it to her.

Yu Yan took it and held it in her palm. "What is this?"

"This is the Beauty Jade Skin Cream, a gift from His Majesty. It not only heals wounds quickly but also makes the skin as white and tender as snow," Wan'er said.

Such an exaggerated plaster convinced Yu Yan completely, since it was a gift from Emperor Fu Lin.

"This servant thanks Your Highness Qi Lan."

After saying that, she flew away as if she were flying, filled with indescribable excitement.

Watching her walk away, Wan'er finally dropped her fake smile and vigorously scrubbed the hand that had just grabbed hers, as if it were very dirty.

One hour later

Just then, Qi Lan slowly walked in. Her face was still very pale, but she was strong and could do some light work without any problem.

"Your Majesty..." She was about to bow when Wan'er stopped her.

Wan'er made her sit down and asked, "Where's the medicine that Yu Yan gave you?"

Qi Lan nodded and took out the bottle of Jade Skin Cream from her bosom.

Wan'er opened it, smelled the aroma, and smiled, "I knew it."

Yu Yan was puzzled and asked, "What's going on?"

Wan'er didn't hide anything and told Qi Lan everything, things she hadn't told him last night.

It turns out that the beauty cream Wan'er gave her contained a large amount of lead powder, which could temporarily beautify the skin, but lead is toxic and excessive use could harm the body.
