Ever since Yehe and Yulu saw a white shadow flash by in the plum grove, they have become suspicious. Yulu even started shouting outside, claiming that others had also seen the white shadow.
“Princess, what’s wrong with you? If Peach Blossom really came back, why hasn’t she come to seek revenge on us yet?” Yuhen advised.
“Yuhen, but whenever I close my eyes, I see Peach Blossom hanging from the rafters. It’s terrifying! Her tongue is so long, and blood is dripping from the corner of her mouth!” Yehe has been having nightmares every day since that day.
Yuhen noticed that Yehe had become quite haggard in just a few days.
“Princess, you must be seeing things. There are no ghosts at all,” Yuhen said.
"Yuhen, sleep with me," said Yehe Shi.
That night, Yuhen first fetched water for Yehe Shi to wash up. The other maids, after finishing their own tasks, hid in their rooms and wouldn't come out unless Yehe Shi gave them permission. Since Taohua was going to die here, Hehua and Hexiang, along with several other maids, desperately wanted to leave. Because Yehe Shi was always wary of Hexiang, who had been specially assigned to her by the Fourth Prince, she had never allowed her to serve her in the room.
"Yulu, did you really see the spirit of Peach Blossom in that plum grove?" Hexiang asked in surprise.
"It's true, her hair is this long, and she doesn't have feet," Yu Lu said, gesturing. She was too afraid to stay in her own room alone, and Yu Hen was kept in Ye He's bedroom day and night by her. So, Yu Lu often came to He Hua and He Xiang's room, just to feel less afraid!
"Didn't Peach Blossom hang herself? Why is she back?" He Xiang asked, looking around.
Her question startled Hehua and Yulu half to death. The three maids immediately huddled together, looking around in terror.
"Could it be that she's been wronged? Or perhaps she never stole the princess's jewelry at all?" Lotus trembled with fear at the thought of Peach Blossom's deathly pale face.
“How could that be? Otherwise, why would she hang herself?” He Xiang said, looking at Yu Lu.
Although Yehe didn't talk to Yulu much, she served her in the inner room, and in particular, she was in charge of Yehe's jewelry, so she knew very well whether Yehe had lost any jewelry.
Yu Lu noticed He Xiang looking at her, and with something on her mind that she couldn't say, she stammered, "Master said she stole something, so of course she stole it. Why are you looking at me like that?"
He Xiang said, "Aren't you in charge of the princess's jewelry? You should know best whether Tao Hua stole it or not!"
Lotus nodded and said, "Yes, Jade Dew, tell me quickly, did they steal the peach blossoms? I heard that the souls of the dead come back to seek revenge on those who framed them. You—"
Upon hearing this, Yu Lu shrank back in fear and frantically shook her head, saying, "I didn't frame her! Don't come looking for me! Don't come looking for me!"
Looking at Yulu's expression, Hexiang said, "Are you saying that Taohua didn't steal the princess's jewelry at all?"
Yu Lu nodded: "I only know that the princess's jewelry has never been missing! As for the princess saying that she stole the jewelry, I don't know."
Meanwhile, Yuhen was dozing in Yehe's room. Yehe had already gone to bed, but she was sleeping poorly. After a while, she woke up as if from a nightmare and sat up.
"Yuhen!" Yehe shouted.
Yuhen was sleeping on the warm couch outside when she suddenly heard Yehe's call and immediately woke up.
"Princess, what's wrong?" Yuhen quickly put on her clothes and went over.
"I'm thirsty, go get me a glass of water," Yehe said, pulling back the gauze curtain with a look of horror.
Yuhen hurriedly went to pour water from the teapot placed on the brazier. Yehe looked at the hexagonal window facing her bed.
"Master, please have some tea." Yuhen brought over a cup of warm tea.
"Is Yuhen's window closed?" Yehe asked, staring at the window.
"It's closed. If it's not closed, the cold wind will come in," Yuhen said, following Yehe's gaze to look at the window.
"No, it's not closed, go check!" Yehe said neurotically.
Yuhen placed the teacup in Yehe's hand, and then immediately went to the window, where he found that the window frame was not secured.
"Strange, I clearly closed it, so why didn't I plug the window?" Yuhen raised her hand to plug the window, when suddenly a gust of cold wind blew the window open.
A deathly pale face appeared at the window. Her hair was long, and blood was flowing from around her eyes, trickling down the corners of her eyes. Blood was also flowing from the corner of her mouth.
Upon seeing such a face, Yuhen was so frightened that she fainted.
Yehe stared blankly at the face that appeared at the window, clutching the blanket tightly with both hands.
"Master, I clearly didn't steal your jewelry, why are you framing me!" the woman outside the window said.
Yehe bit her tongue hard, trembling as she spoke to the "ghost" outside the window: "Don't blame me! You hanged yourself, why are you coming to find me?"
The ghost said nothing more and suddenly disappeared.
Yehe got out of bed shivering and splashed the water in her cup onto Yuhen, which finally woke her up!
"Gege, a ghost~~" Yuhen was still in shock after waking up.
"Quickly go and tell the concubine that I want to invite a Taoist priest to perform a ritual," Yehe Shi shouted.
"Master~" Yuhen was unwilling to go out now, thinking that the "ghost" might still be outside.
“Let’s talk about it tomorrow. I’m not afraid of her. I wasn’t afraid of her when she was still human, and I’m even less afraid now that she’s a ghost!” said Yehe Shi.
Meanwhile, the "female ghost" immediately entered Song's room from Yehe's window.
The "female ghost" took off her white clothes, revealing her burly figure.
"How is Cui Da?" Madam Song asked as she helped Qingping out of the room.
"It really was her! She just admitted it, but she didn't let Fourth Master hear it!" The "female ghost" turned out to be Cui Da; it turned out he was in disguise.
"The concubine said that all we need to do is scare her half to death." Madam Song ordered a maid to bring a basin of water for Cui Da to remove her makeup.
"I never imagined that the seemingly pitiful Princess Ye was actually the murderer who killed Peach Blossom!" Qingping said.
"Which woman in this inner quarters is easy to deal with? Qingping, take Cui Da to the back, so no one sees us," Madam Song instructed. It turned out that Cui Da had entered through her back door.
After Cui Da left, Madam Song went to the window and looked at the house across the street. She then instructed He Xiang to secretly open that window, which gave them the opportunity to put on a good show tonight!
