"I want to go in and take a look, Third Princess!" Lanqin suddenly straightened her back and said loudly.
This sound made everyone stop in their tracks, wondering what she would say next.
"Princess Niu, you've ruined Sister Yin's life, how can you still have the nerve to go in? I'm afraid that if Sister Yin sees you, things will only get worse." As soon as Madam Wu said this, the others started whispering and gossiping among themselves.
The Third Princess Consort gave Lanqin a cold look. It was Lanqin who had previously caused the Third Master to confine her, and now she had committed such an evil deed in her own residence. She was furious and said sternly, "I think Consort Niu should think about how to explain things to her cousin. Consort Wu is right; if you go in now, it will only make things worse for Consort Yin. Do you want her dead?"
The Third Princess deliberately raised her voice when she said "I want her dead," causing everyone present to change color and become even more furious with Lanqin. Indeed, the Third Princess's words were intended to make everyone believe that Lanqin was the culprit.
Nianxue felt several cold gazes sweeping over her and her servant.
“Third Princess Consort’s words are rather biased. We still don’t know the truth of the matter. I don’t know why Third Princess Consort is so sure that Lady Yin’s miscarriage was caused by Lanqin.” Lanqin couldn’t help but defend herself.
"Whether it was you or not, I don't need to judge; Fourth Princess Consort will make her own decision." Third Princess Consort, no longer wanting to concern herself with the matter, turned and walked into the inner room. Just then, Fourth Princess Consort came out of the inner room, her face shrouded in worry.
"Girl Song, Girl Wu, and Girl Niu, you should all return to the manor first, and then go and inform the head nanny to send a more spacious carriage. Sister Yin is too old to ride in a sedan chair," the Fourth Princess Consort said wearily.
"Madam, I want to stay." Ignoring the strange looks from everyone, Lanqin said the same thing again.
The princess looked at Lanqin deeply, pondered for a moment, and then slowly said, "You can't help much if you stay inside. After Madam Yin miscarries, I will take her back to the manor immediately. You and the others should go back first."
Lanqin knew that anything she said now would be in vain; only after Madam Yin could speak could she clear her name. However, if she left first, all the doubts about Madam Yin would disappear. As soon as she left the Third Prince's residence, all the hidden evidence and clues would vanish without a trace.
"I am willing to stay and help the Princess Consort take care of Sister Yin. As for everything that happened in the garden, we will decide on it when we return to the Fourth Prince's residence," Lanqin said calmly, disregarding what everyone thought of her at that moment.
The Fujin seemed surprised that Lanqin could remain so calm under such circumstances. Seeing her insistence, she said nothing more and turned back into the house with the Third Fujin.
Lanqin and her servant immediately followed. The others were astonished by Lanqin's words and had nothing else to say, so they scattered.
As soon as Lanqin entered the inner room, she smelled a strong odor of blood. She frowned, and when she saw Madam Yin, her face was deathly pale. The doctor from the Third Prince's residence had already given her labor-inducing medicine, and now everyone could only wait for Madam Yin to deliver the baby. The fetus was only four months old, already showing its basic form, but it was already fully formed.
"How terrible!" These were the only three words in Lanqin's mind when she saw the unconscious Yin Shi. Although Yin Shi had deliberately framed her, Lanqin didn't feel any deep-seated hatred for this fourteen-year-old girl; only a strong sense of confusion and suspicion. Perhaps she hadn't yet realized the danger she was in; in any case, Lanqin hadn't felt particularly afraid yet.
"Doctor Chen, how is Madam Yin?" the Third Princess Consort asked.
"Reporting to Your Highness, Consort Yin is expelling the fetus that died in her womb. I am having medicine prepared to make the expulsion easier," Doctor Chen replied, bowing his head.
How could she die so quickly! It's impossible! Madam Yin clearly collapsed slowly on her own, how could the fetus in her womb just disappear like that! Lanqin felt that Madam Yin's death was rather strange.
“Princess Niu, you’re being way too…” the Third Princess Consort couldn’t help but ask.
"I have not touched Lady Yin, please investigate, Madam!" Lanqin bowed to the silent Fourth Madam and then said firmly and respectfully.
"Let's wait until she's rescued first." The Fourth Princess Consort suppressed her surprise and admired Lanqin's composure. Almost everyone had already decided that she was the culprit, but she didn't expect that Lanqin would stay on her own initiative and not be in a hurry to explain.
“Cousin, this Princess Yin is so pitiful. She finally conceived the Fourth Prince’s child, but it all ended up here inexplicably. To be honest, I don’t know how to tell our Third Master about this.” The Third Princess glared at Lanqin and said, wishing she could immediately deal with this little princess who had caused her trouble time and time again.
“Cousin, I will speak to the Fourth Prince myself. You don’t need to worry about any misunderstandings between the Third and Fourth Princes.” The Fourth Prince’s wife said to the Third Prince’s wife. Although she kept looking at Dong E Shi, she kept an eye on Lan Qin’s every move out of the corner of her eye.
Why didn't she take advantage of Madam Yin's unconscious state to plead her case? I truly underestimated her.
The Fujin had been trying to figure out Lanqin's thoughts. The reason she didn't directly reprimand her like the Third Fujin was twofold. First, she was the primary Fujin of the Fourth Prince's household, and she had to handle the matter of Lanqin and Yin Shi fairly and impartially, so as not to let Lanqin notice anything amiss. Second, this was not the Fourth Prince's household after all, and she couldn't punish people from her own household on someone else's turf.
Lanqin stared intently at Madam Yin, who was currently teetering on the brink of death. As a modern woman from the 21st century, she simply couldn't understand Madam Yin's actions. Moreover, reason told her that even women from three hundred years ago knew the principle of a mother's status rising with her son's. Why would Madam Yin dare to risk her own son's life to frame her?
Time passed slowly, and the three of them sat outside, with maids constantly bringing in hot water and towels, as if a woman were truly giving birth. But everyone knew that what Madam Yin was "giving birth to" was a lump of flesh that would never breathe or open its eyes.
As evening approached, Lady Yin finally expelled the embryo, which was only four months old, but she was left barely alive and still unconscious. The carriage from the Fourth Prince's residence arrived, and the Fourth Prince's wife refused the Third Prince's wife's offer to stay, and had the dying Lady Yin carried into the spacious carriage.
