Seeing Lanqin's anger, Xia dared not say anything more, immediately curtsied and retreated, then left.
"My lady, please don't be angry. This servant will never dare to disobey again," Cui Niang said quickly when she saw that Lan Qin was angry.
"I knew Xia was no good; I should have found a way to transfer her away from here. Sister Song has always been very attentive to the Fourth Prince, but he doesn't even come to see him. It's truly disheartening," Lanqin said. Suddenly, she felt the baby kicking her belly, causing some pain. It was because she had been too upset and angry earlier that the baby was moving.
"My lady, look at you, you must take care of yourself." Cui Niang noticed a hint of discomfort on Lan Qin's face.
Just then, Granny Xia brought the Fourth Prince towards Song's side.
"Hongshi greets Consort Hongshi!" Hongshi was already six years old. He was dressed in a maroon robe and looked like a little adult.
"Fourth Prince, your Consort Song has been poisoned by a snake, why don't you come to see her?" Lanqin couldn't help but scold her. Wu Shi's words only strengthened her belief that the Fourth Prince was secretly having an affair with the Fujin (Prince's wife).
“Aunt Song was bitten by a poisonous snake. Hongshi was very worried and came to see her early this morning. But Hongshi is not a doctor, and staying by Aunt Song's side for a long time won't do any good!” Hongshi said.
Lanqin had to admit that his words were reasonable and well-founded, and it seemed as if she had been making things difficult for him!
“But your aunt’s life is uncertain. Aren’t you worried at all? How can you still write and paint in your room? Your Aunt Song needs you now. Can you call out to her? Maybe she will wake up!” Lanqin said.
"Hongshi is a little dizzy from the blood!" the Fourth Prince said in a low voice.
Lanqin stared at Hongshi's cold and stern face, and a feeling of disgust immediately rose in her heart. Sister Song had been so attentive to him, yet he was making excuses at a time like this—he was truly ungrateful!
Lanqin regretted giving the Fourth Prince to Song Shi to raise. She thought it was a good thing at first, but little did she know it was not a good thing at all!
"Fourth Prince, go ahead!" Lanqin suddenly felt annoyed with the Fourth Prince and waved her hand.
When Granny Xia saw that Lanqin was again preventing the Fourth Prince from seeing Song Shi, she was completely unaware of Lanqin's thoughts and immediately pulled the Fourth Prince to bow and leave.
"My lord, why won't you let the Fourth Prince summon Consort Song again?" Cui Niang asked, equally puzzled.
“The Fourth Prince has no affection for Sister Song, so there’s no way he can really wake her up. Let’s go and talk to Sister Song about the First Princess; maybe it will work,” Lanqin said.
When they entered Song's room, they found that Song was still lying in bed and had not yet woken up.
"How is Sister Song's condition?" Lanqin asked worriedly.
"The concubine's idea was correct. After releasing Song Gege's poisoned blood, her pulse has improved significantly. There may still be some residual poison in her body," said Doctor Lin.
"Then why hasn't she woken up yet?" Lanqin asked.
"Perhaps this toxicity damaged Song Gege's nerves, causing her to fall into a coma," said Doctor Liang.
Lanqin felt a chill in her heart. If this damaged her nerves, it would be very serious. Could she really become a vegetable?
Lanqin walked up to Madam Song and sat down on the embroidered stool placed in front of her bed.
"Sister Song, wake up! The eldest princess's child is almost a year old and is waiting for you to make clothes for him!" Lanqin said to Song Shi with her head bowed.
Qingping stood to the side, her eyes filled with tears. She was the closest to Madam Song, and had always been Madam Song's dowry maid. What would she do if something happened to Madam Song?
“Sister Song, if you just sleep like this forever, who will keep Qin’er company and laugh with her in the future? Who will make clothes for Qin’er’s child?” Lanqin said.
A somber atmosphere filled the room, and the maids seemed somewhat at a loss.
"You guys, keep talking to Sister Song and slowly tell her about the past. Don't stay silent, understand?" Lanqin said to Qingping.
The two doctors tidied up the medical room and came out of Song's room, then followed Lanqin out.
"Dr. Liang, what's the worst-case scenario for Sister Song's condition?" Lanqin asked.
"He might never wake up again," said Doctor Liang.
Lanqin looked at Doctor Liang in surprise before saying, "Doctor Liang, some black snakes have inexplicably appeared in this mansion. Could you prepare some medicine in advance based on the type of snake venom, so that if someone is bitten by a snake, there will be medicine available immediately for treatment?"
Doctor Liang nodded and said, "Yes, that's what I think too."
Lanqin gave a few more instructions, then instructed Doctor Lin to assist Doctor Liang before letting them go back.
"Master, you should go back and rest too," Cui Niang said to Lan Qin with concern.
“Now that such a situation has suddenly occurred in the manor, everyone in the manor is at risk of being bitten by poisonous snakes. How can I rest? Sister Song’s life is still hanging in the balance,” Lanqin said, frowning.
“My lady, you’re not the only concubine in this household. There’s also that Lady Nian!” Cui Niang said. “You’re eight months pregnant now, you can’t overwork yourself.”
Lanqin said, "I heard that Consort Nian is busy catching snakes in the east courtyard?"
Cui Niang nodded and said, "She only thinks about herself, afraid that her people will be bitten by snakes."
"So, I can't count on her anymore. Cui Niang, go and check on how the head nanny is doing. We can't let anyone else get hurt."
"Yes, Master. You should go back and rest. Otherwise, how will you have the energy to deal with so many things?" said Cui Niang.
"Okay, I'll go back and rest for a while," Lanqin nodded.
When Lanqin returned to her small courtyard in the south, the news from the head nanny said that no trace of the black-headed snake had been found.
This news surprised Lanqin even more. How could those black snakes have disappeared without a trace?
"Master, Master!" Just as Lanqin lay down and closed her eyes, Jinju's startled cry suddenly rang out from outside.
"You silly girl, the master has just fallen asleep, what are you yelling about?" Cui Niang said from the doorway to the outside of the house.
"Master, the master is back!" Jinju said to Lanqin in the room, her face covered in sweat.
"What?" Lanqin opened her eyes abruptly, trying to sit up, but her belly was too big to get up, so she could only say.
"Master, it seems that the master has returned!" Nianxue hurriedly came over to help Lanqin up from the bamboo couch.
"Master, the master is back." Cui Niang quickly turned around and said to Lan Qin, who was sleeping in the left side room.
"He's finally back!" Lanqin said excitedly. Fourth Master had been gone for almost five months, nearly half a year. If he hadn't returned, Lanqin felt she couldn't have kept up.
