Chapter 1517 A Dying Struggle

"Who!" Wuya was sitting in front of her dressing table. Although it was already past midnight, she still refused to sleep, preferring to sit in front of the dressing table and comb her hair over and over again. She never imagined that everything she had painstakingly built would be destroyed by her own hands, destroyed by the child she had killed with her own hands.

"Knock knock, knock knock~" Bai Zhi, a maid from the Nian family, indeed took advantage of the darkness to quietly avoid people and climb the tree.

"Cuiyun, Cuiyun!" Wuya exclaimed, waking Cuiyun, who was dozing nearby.

"What's wrong, Princess?" Cuiyun asked.

“There’s a noise outside,” Uya said, pointing to the window.

Cuiyun hurried to the window, pulled the latch, and sure enough, she saw Baizhi standing on the tree opposite, holding a long bamboo pole. The sound she had just heard was from her tapping the window frame with the bamboo pole.

"You, what are you doing up there!" Cuiyun looked around and, not seeing anyone, whispered to Baizhi. To prevent her voice from spreading, she cupped her hands into a megaphone shape to cover her mouth.

"Cuiyun, does our concubine have something for you, Princess? This letter, please show it to her." Baizhi took out a letter from her bosom.

“Princess, it’s Bai Zhi. She said that Consort Nian has a letter for you!” Cui Yun quickly turned around and said to Wu Ya Shi in the room.

"Bring it in!" For the past two days, Uya had been thinking about how to escape her current predicament. She wanted to ask Consort De for help, but she had no way to inform Consort De.

Cuiyun gestured to Baizhi to throw the letter in, so Baizhi tied a pre-prepared stone to the letter and threw it through the window.

Cuiyun quickly picked up the letter, and Wuya also went over and took the letter from Nian Shi to read.

The letter naturally stated that Madam Nian told her not to reveal her own words, but she did so in a very subtle way, without mentioning Madam Nian at all, only promising to speak up for her in front of the master.

"Hmph, now she's worried that I, the princess, will expose her, but unfortunately, I already know." After reading the letter, Lady Wuya threw the paper away in anger.

"My lord, why don't we ask her to find a way to get the message from here to the Empress in the palace?" Cuiyun said, grasping at a sliver of hope.

“That’s right, let her go and deliver the message, otherwise I will definitely expose her!” Uya immediately understood what Cuiyun meant.

So Crow immediately went to find a pen and paper, wrote a few words, and then had Cuiyun take them to the window and throw them to Baizhi.

After all this was done, Uya collapsed to the ground, unable to get up. She never imagined that despite all her scheming, she would still end up like this.

"How could he be so heartless? Does he not care about our past friendship?" Wuya cried bitterly, but the Fourth Prince was determined never to trust a word she said again.

“My lord, please don’t be sad. Perhaps the master will forgive you after this period of time passes,” Cuiyun said.

“Cuiyun, you said he’s only temporarily angry with me, right?” Wuya grabbed Cuiyun’s hand and said.

"Yes, yes. Master has always been kind to Master, and he will surely forgive Master this time as well." Cuiyun felt bitter. If she had known that following Wuya would lead to this outcome, she shouldn't have come in with her in the first place.

"It must be true, it must be true." Uya seemed to believe what she had just said and quickly got up from the ground.

"This princess needs to wash up and go to sleep. Otherwise, her complexion will be bad," Wuya said, deceiving herself.

Meanwhile, Bai Zhi took Wu Ya's reply and returned to Nian Shi's side. Nian Shi had been waiting for Bai Zhi's reply and hadn't gone to sleep.

"Master, Master!" Bai Zhi walked to the door of Nian's bedroom with Wu Ya's reply in her hand.

"Come in!" Madam Nian said quickly when she heard Bai Zhi's voice.

After Bai Zhi handed the letter to Nian Shi, she deliberately adjusted the lamp wick with a lamp wrench so that Nian Shi could see the words on the letter.

"How is it?" Bai Zhi asked, noticing that Nian Shi was frowning.

“She told us to inform our aunt in the palace,” said Madam Nian.

"Is she trying to plead with Consort De on her behalf?" Bai Zhi said. "I'm afraid Consort De will give up on her in this matter. The master may have already gone to the palace to speak with Consort De."

"Just agree to her. As long as she doesn't say anything out of line, we have plenty of ways to deal with it," said Madam Nian.

"Yes, this servant has already agreed on behalf of my mistress," Bai Zhi said.

"Okay, go to sleep. Let's leave it at that. Sigh, I never thought things would develop to this point," Mrs. Nian said, somewhat dejected.

“Master, we haven’t come away empty-handed. Wuya is now crippled; she can no longer show up in front of you. The one in the South Courtyard has also created a rift between you and Master, which is also beneficial to us,” Bai Zhi said.

“Yes, you’re right. We should write to our brother and tell him about the current situation,” said Madam Nian.

“My lord, it is not appropriate for you to discuss this with the General now. After all, this is a matter of the master’s household. If you involve the General too much, it may offend the master,” Bai Zhi reminded him.

"Well, that's all we can do for now," sighed Madam Nian.

“My lady, you should rest early. In my opinion, the master won’t easily do anything to you. After all, your brother is a high-ranking official who guards a region. The master will have to consider the consequences,” Bai Zhi said.

Madam Nian sighed, “Bai Zhi, what you say is true, but if this is all the affection I have left with my master, isn’t it a little sad?”

Bai Zhi understood what Lady Nian meant and said, "Your Highness, as long as the Third Prince's future is secured, you will still enjoy wealth and honor for the rest of your life. Since you married into the royal family, you are destined to be inseparable from power struggles in this life."

Lady Nian said, “Bai Zhi, sometimes I think that if I hadn’t married into the royal family, I might have a handsome man who is devoted to me now, and we could have a son and a daughter. I wouldn’t have to scheme against each other every day and fight for those things.”

Bai Zhi knew that Nian Shi was also saddened by her words. In the past few years, although she had been promoted to the rank of concubine by the Fourth Prince and lived in the largest courtyard in the mansion, the Fourth Prince did not visit the East Courtyard very often. Nian Shi came from a good family and was as beautiful as a flower. If she had not married the Fourth Prince, she could have married a family that would be devoted to her.

Unfortunately, once you enter the gates of a noble family, it's like entering a deep sea; you never know what will happen afterward. After leaving Madam Nian's room, Bai Zhi returned to her own room. Recalling Madam Nian's sigh, she also felt a little sad.
