The Fourth Prince only learned that Lanqin had been adopted as an adopted daughter by Emperor Kangxi when he left the Ministry of Revenue. To know that his concubine had been adopted by the Emperor was an incredibly wonderful thing.

When the Fourth Prince arrived at Yonghe Palace, he saw Lanqin making wild vegetable cakes in Consort De's kitchen. It turned out that Emperor Kangxi had already sent word that he would be having dinner at Yonghe Palace later.
Consort De then ordered Lanqin to make another batch of those wild vegetable cakes. Since Emperor Kangxi liked them, she decided to make more. "Mother, how did Lanqin become the county magistrate of Minrou?" Fourth Master asked abruptly as he entered the room.
"Mother doesn't know either. Mother only received the imperial edict, and then these things, look!" Consort De was quite happy, thinking that this daughter-in-law was really amazing. She was able to negotiate the utensils for entertaining those barbarian foreigners as soon as she went, and then she was able to get a county. She was really incredible.
"Where is Lanqin?" Fourth Master asked hurriedly.
"She's in the kitchen. Your father will be coming to dine later. She's making wild vegetable cakes for the Emperor," Consort De said with a smile.

The Fourth Prince strode into the kitchen and immediately saw Lanqin rolling up her sleeves, revealing her two jade-like wrists; the horseshoe cuffs were even rolled up to her elbows. Accompanying her in making wild vegetable pancakes were Sihua and several palace maids, all of whom were wrapping fillings for the pancakes under Lanqin's guidance!
Lanqin glanced sideways and saw Fourth Master standing at the door, his face grim, and her heart skipped a beat. They hadn't seen each other for several days since that night at the Fengxian Hall. Why was this cold-faced devil here again?
Lanqin ignored him and continued making wild vegetable cakes with the palace maids. Seeing that Lanqin seemed oblivious to him, the Fourth Prince angrily walked behind her and kept watching her work.
When the palace maids saw the Fourth Prince arrive, they all stopped laughing and talking, and just kept their heads down and did their work, not daring to make any loud noise.
"If you're not going to do anything, then don't stand here and obstruct my movements," Lanqin couldn't help but say.
Si Hua felt a surge of anxiety; why was her mistress still arguing with the master?
"I've come to see if it's ready. Father Emperor will be here soon," said the Fourth Prince.
"It's almost done. Just put it on these hot stoves to bake for a bit, and then it'll be ready to eat," Lanqin replied.
"How did you get promoted to the county or prefectural level?" Fourth Master couldn't help but ask.
Lanqin couldn't answer the Fourth Prince's question for a moment, and only looked up and said, "It was bestowed by Father, so I can only accept it. Your Highness, could you go and blow on the stove fire? The fire isn't very strong."
The palace maids exchanged uneasy glances, then lowered their heads and continued working.
