The next day, when Lanqin woke up, Fourth Master was naturally no longer by her side. When she opened her eyes, she felt as if her limbs were about to break. Recalling Fourth Master's beastly behavior the night before, a curved smile appeared on Lanqin's lips.
"My lady, is this servant ready to help you get up?" Si Hua said to Lan Qin from outside the gauze curtain.
"Where are Ushiha and Bechuk? Have they gotten up yet?" Lanqin asked. She really didn't want to get up; she felt like her limbs didn't belong to her anymore.
"They were all summoned by Consort De. Consort De also told you not to worry about them," Si Hua said with a smile as she lifted the gauze curtain.
Looking at their seemingly sweet smiles, Lanqin knew that they all saw that she and Fourth Master had reconciled and wanted to spend as much time alone with her as possible.
"Oh!" Lanqin said, looking at the top of the blue mosquito net and starting to think. She thought of Indal's matter, wondering if that little gossip had relayed the message.
“My lady, Ushiha just told me that he wants you to accompany him to the Imperial Garden today!” Si Hua said again when she saw that Lan Qin was not moving.
"Yes, it's time to take them out for some fun." Lanqin perked up immediately upon hearing this.
After washing up with the help of the painting master, she perked up and went to Consort De's place.
When Lanqin entered Consort De's palace, she heard the cries of Ushiha and Bechuk.
"Stop crying! What kind of behavior is this, crying so early in the morning!" Consort De's voice came in accurately.
Upon hearing this, Lanqin frowned, trying to suppress her unease, and went inside.
"Daughter-in-law greets Mother!" Lanqin walked up to Consort De and bowed, ignoring the sobs of Wuxiha and Bechuk.
"You've come at the perfect time! How have you taught these two girls manners? They don't even know proper dining etiquette!" Consort De immediately assumed that Lanqin hadn't taught them well. In this era, whatever happened to the children was always blamed on the woman.
"Mother, what's wrong with those two?" Lanqin glanced at her two daughters, noticing that they were behaving quite well. She usually had the governess teach them proper dining etiquette.
"These children are so young, how come they're already talking back? I told them not to talk while they're eating, and not only did they not listen, but they actually dared to talk back to me!" Consort De's face was very unpleasant.
Lanqin already had a clue. She guessed that it was because Ushiha and Bechuk's conversation made Consort De feel that they were being disrespectful. In addition, she had been relatively lenient in her upbringing of the two of them and had not been as strict with them. That was probably why Consort De was displeased.
"On behalf of the two children, I apologize to Mother. They've been spoiled by me and have lost their manners. Please punish them, Mother!" Lanqin said helplessly. Sigh, it's just breakfast, why make such a fuss! No wonder the princesses from the Qing Dynasty are all so delicate! Too many rules, they really restrict people!
"Lanqin, girls must be properly taught, otherwise when they grow up and find a husband, people will think that the daughter of a prince has no manners. Wouldn't that be a disgrace to our Qing Dynasty royal family?" said Consort De.
"Mother, you've punished me severely! It's all my fault for not disciplining them properly. Please punish me, Mother!" Lanqin continued, feigning innocence. At this moment, anything she said to Consort De would be wrong; constantly apologizing and begging for punishment was the only right thing to do. The most important thing was to get the two children out of here as quickly as possible!
“Your Highness, you should go to the Buddhist hall,” Granny De said immediately.
Lanqin glanced gratefully at Granny De and immediately said, "Mother, your daughter-in-law will definitely go back and teach them properly."
"Well, I'm going to pick some rice now. You must teach these two princesses well, otherwise they'll become unruly and embarrass the Fourth Prince." Consort De stood up, flicked her sleeves, and left.
Lanqin suppressed her discomfort and waited until Consort De left before immediately going to her two daughters and wiping away their tears.
"Alright, stop crying. Come on, let's go back with your mother," Lanqin said with heartache.
"Mother, why is Grandmother unhappy? What did Ushiha do wrong?" Ushiha asked, her big, innocent eyes wide. She hadn't done anything wrong; she had only picked up a few of Bechuk's favorite dishes, and yet Grandmother had scolded her for being unruly. She felt so wronged.
Lanqin knew her daughters had been wronged, and immediately said, "It's alright, Grandmother just doesn't understand. Let's go back first."
She left Consort De's palace with her two daughters and returned to the side hall where Lanqin lived.
"Sihua, go and get some more breakfast. Neither of them has eaten enough," Lanqin said. She had just had a frustrating experience with Consort De. Sigh, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, they really are not easy to get along with.
After learning the reason for the incident, Lanqin could hardly contain herself. She sighed inwardly, though she disapproved of Consort De's way of "teaching" the children, she couldn't say anything in front of her two daughters. It turned out that Ushiha had only offered to serve her younger sister a few bites of food because she saw that Bechuk was small and timid, and Consort De had scolded her for lacking proper etiquette. A princess never needs to do things herself; she always instructs her servants to do them.
“Mother, did Ushiha do something wrong? Didn’t you teach us that we should do things ourselves if we can? But Grandmother said I don’t have the demeanor of a noble princess, and that I actually picked up the food myself,” Ushiha said.
Lanqin suppressed her anger and patiently said to Wuxiha, "Wuxiha, you did nothing wrong. Helping your sister is not wrong. But in the future, when dining in front of Grandfather and Grandmother, try not to do it yourself. Let the servants do it. Do you understand?"
"Mother, why, why can't I do things myself in front of Grandmother and Grandfather? I like to pick up my own food and I don't like being served by servants." Ushiha didn't understand why this was the case.
Lanqin was also in a dilemma. Did she really want to explain the affairs of the royal family and nobility to her two daughters?
"Because Grandfather and Grandmother like it that way, you should be filial to them and not go against their wishes, okay?" Lanqin said. That was the only explanation. Anyway, she didn't want to raise her two daughters to be weak and helpless Qing princesses. She wanted them to be independent and self-reliant, not paper dolls who couldn't live without servants.
Ushiha nodded, seemingly understanding, and Bechuk followed suit.
After Si Hua brought over breakfast, Lan Qin had another meal with her two daughters, which dispelled the gloom she felt at Consort De's place. Lan Qin promised to take her two daughters to play in the Imperial Garden later. In addition, Lan Qin also hoped to see if she could run into Prince Indal again, as the matter he had asked of her was still on her mind.
