Chapter 158 Dream

For the next few days, Lanqin went to the peach grove almost three times a day to check if any paper had fallen. Fortunately, the weather remained fine, and her worries did not come true.

"Princess, you said that patterns would be imprinted on these peaches in a few days?" Huanbi asked incredulously, holding an oil-paper umbrella over Lanqin.

“Yes, it’s related to sunlight. The parts that are covered up are naturally lighter in color because they don’t get sunlight.” Lanqin walked to a peach tree and reached out to wrap a piece of colored paper that was about to slip off back up.

Huanbi was completely confused and didn't quite understand Lanqin's words. However, this princess always had a lot of clever ideas, and it seemed that she could always please her master with her actions.

After a quick check, Lanqin returned to her courtyard with peace of mind. As soon as she reached the gate, she bumped into Geng Shi, who was about to turn around.

"Sister, you went to the garden again? I came to talk to you, but your maid said you went out again." Madam Geng was wearing a moon-white robe, with a unique hairpin in her hair that resembled stars surrounding the moon, making her look quite beautiful.

"Sister, don't go, come on, let's go inside together." Lanqin grabbed Geng's hand. She was the only woman Lanqin was willing to try to get to know. Although, she didn't want to think too much about Geng's purpose in coming here. It seemed that since taking Geng out that time, Fourth Master had genuinely developed some affection for her. He would visit her room one or two days a month to spend the night.

"Look at you, your fair skin has gotten so tanned. Quickly, go and have the maid bring you some water to wash your face; that will help soothe your sunburned skin." Madam Geng noticed that Lanqin's face was already slightly red. Although Huanbi was holding an umbrella, the July sun was still incredibly hot.

"Xi Cha, go and get my cucumber slices again. I want to use them on my face, sister, why don't you try it with me?" Lan Qin had nothing to do, so she made cucumber masks, osmanthus masks, pearl powder masks, etc., which were simply made by adding egg whites, a little honey, and mashed flower paste.

"Can cucumbers be used as a face mask?" Geng asked curiously as she and Lanqin sat down as host and guest, respectively.

"Of course, sister, let's try it together." After Lanqin finished speaking, she instructed Nianxue to fetch water for Geng Shi to wash her face.

The two women washed their faces with the help of maids, then lay side by side on the couch. Nianxue and Xicha then applied slices of cucumber to Lanqin and Gengshi's faces.

After the dressing was applied, Lanqin chatted with Gengshi for a while, and gradually, she fell asleep without realizing it. Gengshi glanced at Lanqin, who had closed her eyes and was asleep, and then gestured for Nianxue, who was standing beside her, to be quiet. The latter nodded in understanding, then turned and went to the inner room to get a thin gauze and draped it over Lanqin's stomach.

Madam Geng beckoned her maid, Lülan, over. After Lülan removed the cucumber slices from her face, Madam Geng slowly got up and carefully stepped off the bed.

"Nianxue, I'm going back now. Your princess must be exhausted. Let her get some sleep," Geng said to Nianxue as she walked out.

"That's right, Princess has been going to that peach shop so much these past few days, I'm getting tired of it," Nianxue said helplessly. In her heart, she still felt that the birthday gift Lanqin planned to give to Consort De should be more substantial.

"Alright, Lanqin is a woman of her own mind. She must have her reasons for doing these things. You go back now, I'll go back first." Madam Geng left with the help of Lülan.

Meanwhile, Lanqin was dreaming. She found herself awake in her own room. That's right, she was lying in Lin Mengyao's room.

How is this possible? I've traveled back in time!

Thinking of this, Lin Mengyao felt a surge of panic. Just then, she suddenly heard voices outside. Listening carefully, she realized it sounded like her parents' voices. So, Lin Mengyao sat up abruptly, got out of bed, went to the door, and opened it.

When she peeked through the crack in the door and saw that the two people sitting on the sofa outside were indeed her father and mother, her eyes immediately welled up with tears. She hadn't seen them for half a year, and she had missed them terribly.

Just as Lin Mengyao was about to open the door and shout, "Mom and Dad, I'm home!", she heard her mother say, "Old Lin, I really can't believe Yaoyao left us like this. It's been half a year since she left, and I still think about her all night long." After saying that, her mother started to sob again.

"Old Guan, Mengyao has been gone for half a year. You should pull yourself together. We still have to live. I'm sure Yaoyao would be worried if she knew you were still so preoccupied with this," Lin Mengyao's father said to his wife.

Oh no, am I dead? If I show up now, will they think I'm a ghost?!

"Oh, my poor Yao Yao, she wasn't even married yet, and she's gone just like that. How can I not be heartbroken?" The most tragic thing for a Chinese person is for a parent to outlive their child. Lin Mengyao's mother couldn't find peace in her heart, thinking about her daughter's unmarried life before she even had a proper wedding.

Hearing this, Lanqin couldn't hold back any longer. She had to leave; she couldn't let her mother continue to be so heartbroken. Yes, even if she frightened them, she could explain everything immediately.

Thinking of this, Lanqin pulled open the door and strode out, walking straight to the sofa where her parents were sitting, and stood right in front of them. However, she found that her parents didn't notice her at all, as if they hadn't even realized she was there.

The mother still frowned, burying her face in her husband's shoulder and weeping. The father also frowned, comforting the mother.

Lanqin reached out and touched her mother's face, but her hand had turned transparent. Lanqin stared in horror as her hand touched her mother's face, but she felt nothing at all.

No, could it really just be a ghost? Lanqin pinched herself hard, but felt no pain at all.

"Mom, Dad, I'm back! Can you see me?" She persisted, plopping down on the sofa next to her mother and even shaking her arm, but they still didn't react.

At this moment, Lanqin realized the seriousness of the problem. She had indeed traveled back in time, but only a wisp of her soul had returned; her physical body had probably long since turned to ashes.

Ah~~

What am I going to do? I've become a lost soul! I can't go back three hundred years, and I don't have a physical body anymore. What am I going to do?!

No, no!! Lanqin stood up and paced around the room, so anxious she wanted to bang her head against a wall and die!

I'll crash into it and die! Yes, if I die again, can I travel back in time?
