Chapter 189 Fever

Xi Cha rushed to the main courtyard, only to be told that the Fujin was receiving guests and that she should wait. Xi Cha thought to herself that Huan Bi had already gone to fetch Doctor Zhou, so even if she couldn't see the Fujin for a while, it shouldn't delay Doctor Zhou from treating the princess.

So Xicha waited outside the main house, unaware that Huanbi hadn't managed to summon Doctor Zhou at all, as he wasn't even in the mansion at the moment. Since Huanbi hadn't been able to get a doctor, she naturally returned to the south courtyard first.

While looking after Lanqin, Nianxue instructed Ziran to wait at the gate. When the latter saw Huanbi return alone, she hurriedly asked, "Where is Doctor Zhou?"

Huanbi also said anxiously, "Is Doctor Zhou not at his residence? Has Xicha returned yet? I think we should go and invite the Fujin (principal wife) to find a doctor for the princess."

Zi Ran frowned and hurriedly turned around to walk into the inner room, where she saw Nian Xue changing Lan Qin's towel.

"How is it? Has Dr. Zhou arrived yet?" Nianxue asked without turning her head as she heard footsteps approaching.

"Doctor Zhou isn't at his residence! Nianxue, we still have to go find the Fujin!" Zi Ran walked to the bedside and saw that Lan Qin was already unconscious from a high fever.

"Doctor Zhou isn't at his residence! Why hasn't Xicha returned yet?" Nianxue felt so sorry for Lanqin that she wished she could take the pain upon herself. Seeing that she had been busy all this time but still hadn't managed to bring a doctor, she couldn't help but get angry and said, "Huanbi, did you not look carefully enough? Doctor Zhou is the manor's personal doctor. Where could he have gone?"

Huanbi felt uncomfortable seeing Nianxue yelling at her, but seeing that Lanqin had a fever, she didn't dare to talk back. She could only say hurriedly, "Doctor Zhou is indeed not at his residence. I asked several people, and they all said they didn't know. This mansion is so big, you can't expect me to search courtyard by courtyard."

Nianxue glared at Huanbi, then looked at Lanqin, whose lips were pale from the fever. This was the first time Lanqin had fallen ill since the three of them entered the manor. Before, in the Ling manor, Lanqin was the legitimate daughter, and whenever she fell ill, Madam Anjia would promptly call a doctor to see her. Now, however, they couldn't even find a doctor.

"Nianxue, don't worry, why don't I go to the main courtyard to see why Xicha hasn't returned yet, and also ask the Fujin to find a doctor to treat the princess as soon as possible!" Ziran suggested immediately, seeing that their arguing was not going to work.

"Yes, go quickly. Huanbi, go and see Consort Li again. Her Third Prince often invites doctors over, so maybe Doctor Zhou works there. Consort Li and our Princess have a good relationship, so she certainly won't stand idly by." Nianxue was also anxious and couldn't wait for the Princess's arrangements.

Zi Ran thought about it and then objected, saying, "I'm afraid that's not a good idea. We've already gone to see the First Lady, is it really appropriate to go to see the Second Lady as well?"

Nianxue was already as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, and she couldn't think of anything else. She hurriedly said, "We can't worry about that now. I'm really afraid that the way the princess is being burned will cause some problems. You all go quickly!"

Zi Ran couldn't persuade her otherwise, so she immediately pulled Huan Bi out.

Huanbi was still resentful about Nianxue's scolding earlier. As she followed Ziran out of the courtyard, she said angrily, "She's second only to the head of the household, above everyone else in the courtyard. Ziran, no matter how reasonable you are, she won't listen. The princess trusts her the most."

Zi Ran glanced at Huan Bi and said, "Why are we still talking about this now? We should hurry up and find a doctor for the princess." Seeing that Zi Ran wasn't responding, Huan Bi stopped talking and waited until Zi Ran walked towards the main courtyard before heading to the east courtyard.

Li Shubao waited anxiously outside the main room, watching the commotion inside. Several maids had gone out, and he wanted to go in to help, but without Lanqin's permission, he couldn't enter the princess's room. After all, he wasn't a eunuch and could only serve from outside.

"Granny Wang, go inside and take a look. I'll guard the gate for you and see how the princess is doing. I just heard Zi Ran and the others say that Doctor Zhou from the manor isn't at his residence. What should we do?" Uncle Li looked anxious. Although he hadn't been of much use yet, Lan Qin had always been kind to them, and staying in the South Courtyard was much better than anywhere else.

“Nianxue is confused. She should have gone to find the Fujin first. Maybe the mistress in one of the courtyards is also sick, and Doctor Zhou has already been sent there by the Fujin. How could she just go directly to Doctor Zhou’s room like this? Sigh!” Granny Wang shook her head and turned to walk towards the main room. “I’ll go in and take a look. You watch the gate.”

Meanwhile, Zi Ran hurried to the main courtyard and saw Xi Cha still waiting in the side room. Puzzled, she walked over to her and asked, "Why are you still waiting here? Did you see the Fujin?"

Xi Cha was also a little anxious at this moment. When she saw Zi Ran arrive, she grabbed her hand and said, "Chun Liu said that the Princess Consort is currently receiving guests and it is inconvenient for her to see me. Well, has Huan Bi invited Doctor Zhou over yet?"

Zi Ran shook her head and briefly explained Huan Bi's situation to Xi Cha.

"What should we do? The Fujin won't see me, and Doctor Zhou isn't in her room. What should we do, Princess?" Xicha was so anxious she was almost crying. Although she didn't have the same deep feelings for Lanqin as Nianxue, Lanqin's usual kindness to them made these maids truly regard Lanqin as someone who would protect them. Now that their protector was sick, how could she not be worried?

Zi Ran's eyes flashed, and after thinking for a moment, she immediately pulled Xi Cha out of the side room and walked to the front of the main room of the Fujin. Just as she was about to go in, Chun Liu blocked her way.

"Didn't I say that the Princess Consort is currently receiving guests and it's inconvenient for her to see anyone!" Chunliu was usually very kind and gentle, but at this moment, her usual gentleness was nowhere to be seen. Her words were clean and cold, leaving no room for doubt.

“Sister Xiahe, our princess has been running a fever for an hour. If this continues, I’m afraid something bad will happen to her. If the master returns and finds out that Sister Chunliu prevented the princess from knowing about this, do you think the princess will blame Sister Xiahe for not reporting it in time?” Ziran was not like Xicha, who was too timid. She only said, “Our princess is sick. Please send Doctor Zhou to take a look at her.” Xiahe refused with the excuse that “the princess has a guest and will have to wait a while.”

"You! I've already informed the Fujin (Prince's wife), and she said to wait a while. It's only an hour or two, it won't cause any trouble!" Xia He glared at Zi Ran, but she was also afraid that the Fourth Prince would blame her when he returned, so she could only say this.

“Gege started having a fever this morning. If Sister Xiahe doesn’t report this to the Fujin truthfully, the master will reprimand her, and Sister Xiahe will regret it!” Seeing that her words had worked, Ziran immediately seized the opportunity to say this again.
