Chapter 2023 Worry

"Eunuch, how are your injuries?" The Fourth Prince was stopped by Xiao Runzi after court. He was naturally surprised when he learned that Eunuch Liang had fallen, but after learning that Emperor Kangxi had woken up, he went to see Emperor Kangxi before coming to Liang Jiugong's room to see him.

"Prince Yong!" Liang Jiugong was about to bow, but was stopped by the Fourth Prince.

“No need for formalities, Father-in-law. I just went to see Father Emperor. He can eat now and is in much better spirits. You don’t need to worry,” Fourth Prince comforted Liang Jiugong.

“Now that His Majesty has awakened, this servant is relieved. This servant sent Xiao Runzi here to speak with the Prince about something. This matter is very important, you may all leave.” Liang Jiugong’s face showed a determined expression.

"I wonder what you wish to say to me, sir?" Fourth Prince asked, looking at Liang Jiugong's expression with a puzzled expression.

"Your Highness, His Majesty, His Majesty has placed an edict behind the 'Zhengda Guangming' plaque in the Qianqing Palace. It has the Crown Prince's name on it," Liang Jiugong said, taking a deep breath. Now that Emperor Kangxi is seriously ill, Liang Jiugong had no choice but to boldly inform the Fourth Prince of this matter, lest some people become restless and begin to covet that edict.

The Fourth Prince was stunned by Liang Jiugong's words. He wasn't unaware of the matter, but he hadn't expected Liang Jiugong to know it too, and even to say it to him in this way. If everyone knew, wouldn't the imperial edict be at risk of being removed and altered at any moment?

“Your Highness, last night Consort De discovered Consort Yi and her maid doing something strange under the Emperor’s desk in the Qianqing Palace. I cannot say it outright, but I suspect their purpose is that imperial edict,” Liang Jiugong said.

The Fourth Prince's eyelids twitched. He hadn't bothered to check who was written on the imperial edict, but someone had already started making a move.

"Don't tell Father Emperor about this," the Fourth Prince said to Liang Jiugong. "Father Emperor's health is not good, and he can't take any more stimulation. It was originally his arrangement to leave behind the edict, but now someone is starting to covet it. If Father Emperor finds out, he will definitely be angry."

After listening, Liang Jiugong nodded and said, "Your Highness is very thoughtful. I was thinking of reporting to the Emperor, but I didn't have any evidence at the moment. Now that I've heard what Your Highness said, I really can't go and tell the Emperor."

The Fourth Prince nodded and said, "I will find a way to keep them away from that flat piece of land, so don't worry."

Liang Jiugong sighed and said, "Alas, Your Highness has gone to great lengths. His Majesty is unwell, and this matter must be kept from him, so that no one can touch Empress Bian's edict."

After leaving Liang Jiugong's room, the Fourth Prince walked towards the Qianqing Palace.

Inside, Emperor Kangxi was leaning back on a large soft cushion, talking to Consort De.

"Wanxiu, I had a very long dream. In the dream, there was Hesheli and Consort Min. They all came to find me." Kangxi's eyes were empty. He was not looking at Consort De, but staring at the edge of the carved dragon bed.

"Your Majesty, all the sisters have passed away. Your Majesty is reminiscing about them." Consort De felt a chill in her heart and quickly comforted her.

"Wanxiu, the way they all looked in my dreams seemed to be blaming me. Hesheli blamed me for not properly educating Yinzhi, for making him an heir and then deposing him. Consort Min blamed me for heartlessly imprisoning her son for thirteen years," Kangxi said, though his expression remained unchanged.
