After a sumptuous lunch, Fucha Mingyu's mood was completely different from that of breakfast. This was because Lanqin had chatted with her about food and told her about Hongli's usual dining preferences.
Ulanara Xueying could only sit silently at the end of the table, listening to Lanqin and Mingyu talk and laugh without saying a word, watching Hongli talk to her, but she couldn't get a word in edgewise.
Although Lanqin was talking to Mingyu, she was secretly observing Xueying's expression. So far, she hadn't noticed anything unusual about Xueying, but historically, Xueying had indeed married Hongli, not Hongzhou! It was only possible that one of them, Hongli or Xueying, was in love with the other. Lanqin could see that Hongli's eyes were always only for Mingyu, so what about Xueying's feelings for Hongli?
Another possibility is that it was a marriage decree bestowed upon them!
Lanqin pondered the various possibilities of why Hongli would marry Xueying, and her feelings were conflicted! Now, her proper daughter-in-law was Fucha Mingyu, but she also had to keep an eye on Xueying.
"I'm tired, you all go back and rest. We'll go to the plum garden later!" Lanqin said.
Everyone agreed and returned to their respective residences, except for Hongli, who was kept behind by Lanqin.
"Hongli, sit with your mother for a while, your mother has something to ask you!" Lanqin pulled Hongli toward the house where she used to live.
Hongli assumed that his mother hadn't seen him for a long time, which was why she had pulled him aside to talk.
After the mother and son sat down, Lanqin noticed that Hongli's demeanor had become increasingly noble. He was different from the Fourth Prince; the Fourth Prince was cautious and steady, while Hongli possessed an innate nobility and arrogance.
"Mother, why are you looking at your son like this?" Hongli rarely saw Lanqin staring at him like this.
"What, you've grown up so much that even your mother can't look at you anymore?" Lanqin said, feigning displeasure.
"Mother, you know that's not what I meant. You had something to say to your son, didn't you?" Hongli quickly said with a fawning smile.
"I ask you, is there anything unusual about Xueying?" Lanqin's smile vanished, and she sat up straight.
"Her? Your son has had no contact with her, why is Mother asking about her?" Hongli said, "Because she is the Fujin's niece, your son has deliberately distanced himself from her, but Hongzhou is still unwilling to give up."
"Xueying is so beautiful, how could most people easily fall for her?" Lanqin asked, staring at Hongli. They were both in their prime, and it was easy for feelings to develop between them.
"Mother, what do you mean by this?" Hongli understood the meaning behind Lanqin's words.
"Mother doesn't mean anything by it, I just think Xueying is a good girl. If it weren't for Mingyu, I think she would be a good match for you!" Lanqin couldn't help but say.
"Mother!" Hongli looked at Lanqin in surprise, not understanding why she said that.
"Mother didn't mean anything by it, it was just something I said casually, you don't need to take it so seriously!" Lanqin quickly reassured her.
"Mother, Hongzhou is very devoted to her, but she hasn't given him an answer yet! What is she thinking?" Hongli asked.
"Perhaps she doesn't like your fifth brother!" Lanqin sighed.
"Since you have no intention of doing this, why keep Hongzhou hanging like this? It's really not good!" Hongli said with some dissatisfaction.
“There might be some things that are hard to say. You spend a lot of time with Hongzhou, so you can try to persuade him,” Lanqin said.
"I tried to dissuade them, and I did try to dissuade them from drinking last time, but I never expected to be kidnapped!" Hongli laughed.
