Lanqin naturally stopped saying anything good to Nian's son. In fact, she knew that Hongsheng was not a good child, entirely because he was spoiled by Nian. As the saying goes, a doting mother spoils her son. Because of her resentment towards herself, Nian transferred that emotion to Hongsheng. She felt that he was not as good as Hongli and Hongzhou, so she lashed out at him. At the same time, she felt that the Fourth Prince had mistreated Hongsheng, so she doted on him even more.
The next day, the Fourth Prince summoned Hongsheng to his side and gave him some instructions to do. Hongsheng was surprised that the Fourth Prince would order him to do something, and immediately became interested.
"Father, I will definitely do my best. Please rest assured, Father," Hongsheng said excitedly. His father had never spoken to him with such a kind and trusting expression before, which greatly moved Hongsheng.
After the Fourth Prince left, Hongsheng hurriedly went to the East Courtyard to find Madam Nian. He only knew that he had to tell his mother about this immediately.
Since the Fourth Prince stormed off yesterday, Lady Nian has been in a bad mood and didn't want to get up and wash this morning.
"Mother! Mother!" Hongsheng called out excitedly as he headed towards Nian Shi's bedroom.
Hearing Hongsheng's shouts, Lady Nian grew even angrier. It was because of him that she had quarreled with the Fourth Prince yesterday.
"What are you yelling about so early in the morning!" Mrs. Nian replied irritably.
Upon hearing Madam Nian's tone, Hongsheng knew she was in a bad mood, and his excited face immediately froze. He walked to Madam Nian's bedside and tentatively asked, "Mother, what's wrong?"
"It's all because of you! If you weren't so useless, your mother wouldn't have lost face in front of your father!" Madam Nian immediately scolded him when he asked her that question.
Hongsheng immediately lowered his head, listening to Nian's scolding. He had been used to this kind of situation since he was a child.
"Third Prince, what brings you here to speak with the master?" Bai Zhi quickly seized the opportunity to interject after Lady Nian finished scolding her.
"My son came to tell his mother that his father asked me to buy books for him." Hongsheng's good mood had been completely ruined by Nian Shi's scolding.
"What?" Mrs. Nian asked in surprise, "Your father asked you to buy books for him?"
Hong Sheng nodded.
Mrs. Nian was slightly taken aback, but then her face lit up with joy as she said, "Why didn't you say so earlier? This is a good thing; your father is starting to trust you."
Hong Sheng dared not say that Shi Nian had not given him a chance to speak earlier.
“That’s right, Your Highness. The Prince has sent the Third Prince on this mission, which means he’s starting to trust him. Our Third Prince has grown up and can now share the Prince’s burdens,” Bai Zhi quickly replied.
Finally, a smile appeared on Nian's face as she said, "Hongsheng, you'd better do a good job on this mission for your father."
When Hongsheng arrived, he had hoped to see Nian Shi smile at him for taking on his father's task. However, although he saw his mother's smile, he was no longer excited.
"What are you still standing there for? Hurry up and get ready! Your mother will teach you how to do it." At this moment, Madam Nian's mind was filled with the task that the Fourth Prince had assigned to Hongsheng.
"Yes, son, go and make preparations." Hongsheng bowed and then left in a somber mood.
"Your Highness, please don't scold the Third Prince so easily in the future. After all, he's about to get married," Bai Zhi advised.
“It’s not that I wanted to scold him. Look at him, neither cultured nor martial, he really doesn’t have the grandeur of the Nian family.” Madam Nian didn’t think her attitude towards Hongsheng was wrong at all.
