In the dead of night, the general's mansion was shrouded in darkness. A dark figure silently leaped onto the roof. His agility was remarkable; he darted and tumbled across the rooftops as if he had wings.
This man was none other than Ling Xiao, the guard whom the Fourth Prince had placed in the Fourteenth Prince's residence. The courtyard he had discovered during the day was full of strange occurrences, and seemed to have some connection to the person he was looking for today. Therefore, Ling Xiao had put some sleeping pills in the food of his companions in the same room, so that they were all sound asleep and would not know that he was not in the room.
Following the route taken during the day, Ling Xiao used his lightness skill on the rooftop, leaping and bounding like a nimble black swallow, and instantly arrived at the rooftop opposite that villa.
He carefully observed the surroundings and, seeing that there was indeed no one there, he used the "Flying Swallow Returning to its Nest" technique, leaping from the rooftop and "flying" directly to the gate of the villa.
Ling Xiao touched the ground with one foot before landing safely. All around was quiet, broken only by the occasional meow of a night owl, adding a touch of eeriness to the still night.
Ling Xiao's heart raced; he felt that the person he was looking for should be in this house.
Calming his tense breathing, Ling Xiao tiptoed up the steps in front of the house and arrived at the door. He reached out to push the door open, only to find it locked from the inside.
Ling Xiao then walked to the window and pushed it open, only to find that the window could actually be moved. Ling Xiao was overjoyed; he could enter without disturbing the people inside and check first to see if it was Zheng Chunhua and her son.
Ling Xiao quietly moved the window open, and then he jumped in through the window.
Ling Xiao rolled on the ground like a cat, making almost no sound. The room was pitch black, so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, but Ling Xiao possessed eyes that could discern directions even in the dark.
Just as he was about to go inside, guards carrying torches suddenly rushed out from the side rooms on the left and right.
"Good, I've been waiting for you for a long time, you've finally arrived!" Fourteenth Prince walked out of the house on the east side with his guards.
As Ling Xiao turned around, several guards with swords walked in through the door behind him, blocking his escape route completely.
"When did the General suspect me?" Ling Xiao knew he had been ambushed, but he was not flustered, because as the Fourth Prince's secret guard, he was always ready to serve his master.
"Starting with the Fujin, you told her that Wanqing was going to assassinate her. I had no idea. You've been in my household for many years, haven't you? Did my fourth brother send you?" Fourteen stared at Ling Xiao and said, "It seems I underestimated him. Perhaps he has spies among the maids in my household, and even my inner quarters are under his surveillance?"
Ling Xiao knew that if he couldn't escape today, he would die here. So, before Fourteen could finish speaking, he engaged in a fierce battle with the guards behind him.
"Don't let him get away!" Fourteen waved his hand.
Although Ling Xiao was skilled in martial arts, his fists were no match for four legs. In about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, he had several wounds on his body. His entire body was stained with the smell of blood.
"Leave them alive!" Fourteen said.
Ling Xiao refused to give Fourteenth Brother this chance. He knew that once he fell into Fourteenth Brother's hands, only torture and eventual death awaited him, so he decided to end his own life.
"Don't let him commit suicide!" Fourteen, having already seen through Ling Xiao's plan, said to his men.
