Chapter 227 Persuasion

"What is it that you must come here to say?" Fourth Master took the handkerchief Su Peisheng offered and wiped the water from his hands. Although Lanqin was very sensible, it didn't mean Fourth Master liked this arrangement. In his inner quarters, each woman lived in her own courtyard, maintaining a proper distance and decorum between them to prevent chaos. He disliked anyone overstepping this rule and losing their sense of propriety!

Lady Li naturally understood the meaning behind Fourth Master's words, and immediately became more apologetic, saying with a hint of remorse, "I have come here with important matters; please allow me to speak."

"I'm listening!" Fourth Master said gently, staring at the grapes hanging overhead.

"My lord, Yan Yu is with me! She said that the Fujin wants to send her back to the Ulanara residence. She came to beg me for help, saying that she doesn't want to go back. But the Fujin insists that she leave immediately. I think that Princess Yan Yu seems to have something on her mind, but when I ask her, she won't say. Therefore, I have come to ask Your Highness for your guidance on how to handle this matter." Li Shi carefully observed the Fourth Prince's expression, guessing whether each word she spoke would align with his thoughts.

"What do you think might happen to her?" Fourth Master didn't press Yan Yu for details, but instead asked Li Shi.

"This, I don't know. But from Yan Yu's few words, I understand that it seems to be related to the rumor circulating outside!" Upon hearing the Fourth Prince's question, Madam Li felt a strange sense of panic, fearing that he would see through her intentions.

"Yan Yu doesn't want to go back?" Fourth Master asked again.

“Yes, she told me she wanted to stay in the Fourth Prince’s residence. But I don’t know what happened between her and the Fujin that has made them so estranged,” Li said.

"If I go, she'll say something?" Fourth Master raised his handsome eyebrows, but because of the sunlight shining on his face, Li Shi couldn't see his expression clearly no matter how she looked at him.

"No, I have already thought of a way. I would like to ask Fourth Master to accompany me to listen to it." Li said boldly. She had already decided on the way to the South Courtyard: she must persuade Fourth Master to listen. Even if Yan Yu did not say what she knew, Fourth Master would not say anything bad about her!

The Fourth Prince did not immediately respond to Li's suggestion. He was actually waiting for news from the head nanny and also for news from the palace.

"You go back first, I'll be there soon!" The Fourth Master decided to go and see. Upon hearing this, Li Shi's tension finally eased a little. She curtsied to the Fourth Master, then took Que'er's arm and turned to leave. When she reached the gatehouse, Li Shi said to Granny Wang, "Tell your princess that I thank her."

Fourth Master turned and went into the room, where he saw Lanqin sitting on the couch, pulling Fu Bao's ear and muttering to herself. He listened quietly to what she was saying!

"Fu Bao, when your mom and dad get old, you have to take care of us. Do you understand? Like getting your mom's reading glasses and your dad's cane." Lan Qin felt as if this dog could understand her. She looked up and saw Fourth Master standing at the door, smiled, and continued to pat Fu Bao in her arms.

Looking at this genuine and unpretentious little princess, the Fourth Prince felt a sense of eternal peace. He seemed reluctant to break this peace. Although he had promised Li Shi, he hesitated to leave until Lan Qin smiled and asked, "What are you doing standing at the door?"
