Lanqin led her entourage to Liu's room. Liu, who had been confined to her quarters, didn't know why they had come and assumed that the Fourth Prince had granted her a pardon. She excitedly replied, "Consort, does the Fourth Prince want to see me? Can I leave now?" Seeing Lanqin remain silent, she immediately deflated and looked at her.
Lanqin surveyed Liu's room. Without the Fourth Master's favor, Liu was naturally unwelcome in the courtyard. The room was lifeless, dusty, indicating it hadn't been cleaned for days. The snacks on the table were subpar; the fruit was shriveled and black, and the teacup was chipped. Even Liu's clothes were no longer as bright as before; she was unkempt, pale, and utterly wretched.
Since entering the house, all I've seen is an old woman waiting outside, and Meiqin standing nervously in the corner. With just one glance from Lanqin, Meiqin was so frightened she almost screamed and didn't dare to look up.
Lanqin walked to the chair, and the maid quickly brought out a handkerchief cushion. Lanqin sat down, feeling a pang of regret. She thought that Liu Shi had once been pregnant with the Fourth Master's child, yet in order to compete with her for favor, she did not hesitate to use the child in her womb to harm her. Lanqin felt no sympathy for Liu Shi.
Liu knew that Lanqin didn't like her, but since she was already in this state, she figured there couldn't be anything worse. So she asked confidently, "May I ask what brings you here, Consort? I really don't know what you're doing here. Are you here to make a fool of me? Whatever, just look around." Liu waved her hand and walked around the room, laughing as she spoke.
Lanqin looked up at Liu Shi and said coldly, "I truly admire your refined taste, sister, for maintaining such a mood in this environment. I wonder if you were plotting to harm a child with the same intentions?"
Liu Zi was taken aback, and stammered, "What do you mean?"
Lan Qin said angrily, "Did you go to Hongsheng's residence in the East Courtyard before?" Upon hearing this, Liu Shi knew that this matter was no small thing and hurriedly retorted, "You need to have evidence for your words. Why would I go to the East Courtyard? Are you trying to frame me for Hongsheng's death?"
Liu suddenly went mad: "I want to see Fourth Master... I want to see Fourth Master..."
The maidservant immediately seized her, but Liu struggled and screamed hysterically, "Niohuru, you've always held a grudge against me for what I did to you, but one thing is one thing. You can't pin Hongsheng's death on me... I didn't do it..."
Lanqin looked coldly at Liu and said, "Why would I come to you if I had no evidence... You should confess honestly..."
Liu's eyes blazed with fury as she stared intently at Lanqin: "You...you did all this yourself, and now you want me to take the blame? Niohuru, don't even think about it...the Third Prince was clearly harmed by you..."
Lanqin glared at Liu, and the maid tightened her grip on Liu, causing Liu to cry out in pain. Meiqin, standing nearby, was trembling uncontrollably, shrinking further and further away.
Lanqin waved her hand and ordered, "Go, thoroughly search Liu's house..."
Liu's eyes reddened with anger, and she struggled, cursing, "You vile woman, you're trying to frame me! I want to see Fourth Master... I'm innocent..."
Lanqin ignored Liu's insults and calmly considered the matter. In her heart, she did not believe that Liu was responsible.
