"Mother, you must take care of yourself..." Wuxiha's voice was choked with emotion as he urged Lanqin.
Lanqin nodded silently.
"Mother, I will remember your words and live a good life. Don't worry..."
The people inside the house were moved to tears by the deep affection between the mother and daughter, but since it was a joyous occasion, they quickly put on smiles. Before the two could exchange more than a few words, the sedan chair that was to pick up Ushiha had already arrived outside.
"Greetings, Consort Xi. The Emperor and Empress are waiting for the Princess in the Hall of Supreme Harmony. The auspicious time is approaching. Princess, please get into your sedan chair..." The eunuch couldn't bear to interrupt, but had no choice but to gently remind Lanqin.
Lanqin released Wuxiha, tidied Wuxiha's makeup, and, suppressing her reluctance, smiled and said to Wuxiha, "Go, your father is waiting for you..."
Ushiha glanced at the sedan chair outside, then at Lanqin. Lanqin smiled and wiped away the tears on Ushiha's face, saying affectionately, "Alright, alright, Mother will watch you go! From now on you're a grown-up, and Mother believes you can do well!"
Ushiha nodded solemnly, then happily stepped back, reluctantly leaving Changchun Palace. Even as he reached the door, he didn't forget to look back at Lanqin.
Lanqin waved and nodded with a smile, signaling Wuxiha to get into the sedan chair. But the moment the sedan chair started moving, Lanqin could no longer hide her sadness and turned to walk into the inner room.
The sounds of cannons and cheers rang out outside Changchun Palace, but Lanqin suppressed her reluctance to part with her daughter and did not cry.
When Ushiha got married, he could only send her off at Changchun Palace. The person who actually saw Ushiha off was the Empress, who had no relation to Ushiha.
For the first time, Lanqin felt the vast difference in their social status; her own daughter couldn't even marry into her family.
After Wuxiha and his entourage left, Song, Wu, and Geng came in to chat and laugh. They were all women who had married off their daughters, so they naturally knew the feelings of marrying off a daughter.
“Your Majesty, Princess Gulun has not married far away. She will return to her parents’ home in three days. Please don’t be sad,” said Madam Wu.
“That may be true, but only a mother knows the heart of a mother. I’m afraid my daughter will suffer in someone else’s home, not by my side,” said Madam Song.
“Princess Gulun’s mother-in-law is not around, so there’s no need to worry. Besides, what small country would dare to mistreat a princess of the Qing Dynasty, especially the most noble one?” Geng said.
Lanqin gradually calmed down, realizing she understood what was being said.
"Alright, you should all hurry back to your respective palaces to prepare. The palace banquet will begin once the bridal sedan chair leaves the palace," Lanqin said.
One by one, everyone left Changchun Palace, and Lanqin looked at the empty palace with a sense of loss.
"Mother!" a voice called out.
"Ushiha?" Lanqin seemed to hear her eldest daughter's voice.
So it was Bechuk!
"What are you doing here? Didn't you go to the Hall of Supreme Harmony?" Lanqin asked her youngest daughter in surprise.
“It was Father Emperor who sent me to keep Mother company!” Bechuk said.
Lanqin felt a warmth in her heart. This was because Fourth Master was afraid that she would be sad, so he specially sent his youngest daughter over.
"Mother, are you alright?" Bechuk asked.
She had never seen Lanqin sad or upset before, and was a little unaccustomed to Lanqin's current state.
“Mother is alright,” Lanqin said, taking Bechuk’s hand.
“Mother, Ushiha is gone, but I’m still here! I don’t want to see you sad,” Bechuk said.
Not wanting to worry Biechuk, Lanqin pulled her aside and started talking about what they were like when they were little.
