The days of travel had made Hongshi a little scared. Once he arrived at the inn, he didn't want to leave. He put the disaster relief work out of his mind and only cared about his own comfort.
Fearing that this would cause delays, Linlang said to Hongshi, "Your Highness, we've already been delayed on the road, and now we're staying here for a few more days. This will only make things worse!"
Even with Linlang's persuasion, Hongshi was still unwilling to leave. He had only enjoyed such a peaceful life for a few days, and he was unwilling to suffer again. However, he also knew that he had asked his father, the Emperor, for this opportunity, and that his father was waiting for news from him. Hongshi gritted his teeth and proudly decided to stay for three more days before leaving.
Hongshi lay on the bed, looking at Linlang. Linlang had a beautiful figure and was a great dancer. Her light steps and graceful movements were like swallows returning to their nests, and her swift flight was like magpies startled in the night. Her movements were exquisite, her jade sleeves fluttering in the wind, elegant and agile. Hongshi couldn't take his eyes off her.
Finally, Hongshi pulled her onto the bed, and the two made love.
After Hongshi fell asleep, Linlang went to the table, picked up a pen and wrote a letter to the Eighth Master. The letter clearly described everything that had happened to Hongshi in the past few days. Then she released the carrier pigeon.
Three days later, Hongshi and his party finally set off again, while the Eighth Prince in the capital received a secret report from Linlang.
After closing the study door, Eighth Master unfolded Linlang's letter, and after reading it, a slight cold smile appeared on his lips.
Eighth Master muttered to himself, "Hongshi is truly an incompetent fool. I was right about him! Once he ascends to the throne, I can easily control him, and then the world will be mine!"
Then he said, "Yinzhen! Don't think that just because you've become the emperor now you've won against me. Whoever laughs last laughs best!" After saying that, he turned around, picked up the letter on the table, lit it on the candle, and looked at the burning letter as if he saw his enemy being burned to death. The cold smile on his lips gradually widened.
But he quickly calmed down. In short, the emperor was still wary of him, and he had to be more careful in his words and actions than before.
After setting off, Hongshi felt very uncomfortable. He had never left the Forbidden City before, much less the luxurious life he had lived in. He had no idea that life outside was so hard. At this moment, Hongshi only hoped to reach Kaifeng Prefecture as soon as possible, handle the disaster relief work, and then return to the capital to report back. As for the lives of the disaster victims, he did not care at all. He even felt that the disaster victims were a burden on the country and it would have been better if they had died.
Meanwhile, his mother, the Empress, was sitting in a chair in Jingren Palace, picking up her teacup, blowing on it, and a cloud of steam rose up, blurring her vision.
"Where is Hongshi?" she asked her personal maid.
Lingxiu replied, "Your Majesty, the letter says it's almost at Kaifeng."
"I hope this experience will help him grow. If he inherits the throne in the future, encountering more challenges will be beneficial for him," the Empress said.
Lingxiu said, "Your Highness, rest assured, Prince will not let you down."
The Empress sighed, "I hope so. The Duke of England and I have gone to great lengths for him."
The Empress sighed again, and then said, "If my prince were still alive, why would I bother supporting such a useless person!"
Lingxiu took two steps forward and advised, "Your Majesty, please don't be sad. The Second Prince now regards Your Majesty as his second mother. If he inherits the throne in the future, Your Majesty will be the rightful Empress Dowager."
