Before the Fourth Prince could speak, Nian Gengyao interjected, "This general is a veteran of battle and doesn't know many of the rules of the court. Besides, I just arrived in the capital and went to the palace to meet the Emperor. I didn't have time to change my clothes."
After saying that, he glanced at the Minister and said, "What kind of thing are you to dare to discipline this general?"
The Minister was furious; he never expected that Nian Gengyao would dare to scold him in the main hall.
He trembled and said, "I am a high-ranking official of the first rank, and you dare to insult me."
Nian Gengyao said disdainfully, "So what if you are a minister? I, the general, have made great contributions to the court. If it weren't for me, would you all be standing here gossiping like common women?"
The Minister glared angrily and pointed at Nian Gengyao, saying, "You shameless scoundrel! You have no respect for the law!"
Nian Gengyao's face flushed crimson in an instant. He drew his sword and held it to the Minister's neck. "Say that again if you dare!"
The Minister was a civil official, and had never had a sword pointed at him before. Moreover, Nian Gengyao had fought on the battlefield for many years, and his spirit was unmatched by ordinary people. The Minister was so frightened that his eyes rolled back and he was about to faint. Fortunately, the officials next to him were quick-witted and caught him.
Another official said, "Nian Gengyao, you've gone too far! This is the Imperial Palace, and the Emperor is still here. How dare you draw your sword? Are you planning a rebellion?"
Nian Gengyao turned the tip of his sword in a different direction. "If you want to die, just say so! This general will grant your wish!"
"Enough!" Fourth Prince shouted, slamming his hand on the dragon throne. The veins on his hands were bulging, clearly indicating that he was burning with rage.
Then he ordered Nian Gengyao, saying, "Nian Gengyao, put away your sword."
Nian Gengyao didn't dare to challenge the Fourth Prince. He pursed his lips and reluctantly sheathed his sword.
The official who had spoken earlier stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty, Nian Gengyao openly drew his sword in the Golden Palace, disregarding the laws of our dynasty. We beg Your Majesty to punish him!"
Nian Gengyao glared at him, but fortunately he knew that the Fourth Prince was already angry, so he dared not be presumptuous anymore.
The Fourth Prince originally did not want to punish Nian Gengyao too severely, but now Nian Gengyao could no longer be controlled. She dared to be so rude in front of him, and it seemed that he could no longer tolerate her.
"Su Peisheng," Fourth Master called out.
"Your servant is here."
"Read aloud the memorials on the table one by one, so that the General can hear them!"
Su Peisheng glanced at the Fourth Master and saw his serious expression, knowing that Nian Gengyao was doomed this time.
Su Peisheng lowered his head, walked to the dragon desk, picked up the memorials and read them aloud one by one. They were all undoubtedly accusations against Nian Gengyao.
Nian Gengyao didn't understand what the Fourth Prince was trying to do. These were just trivial matters, nothing worth reading aloud. But as he listened, Nian Gengyao's expression changed. How did they know these things?
Before he had read half of it, the Fourth Prince sternly rebuked him, saying, "Nian Gengyao, do you know your crime?"
Nian Gengyao never expected that the Fourth Prince would act this way in front of the entire court, clearly showing no mercy.
However, he thought that the Fourth Prince just wanted him to restrain himself and wouldn't punish him, after all, he had made great contributions to the Qing Dynasty.
Nian Gengyao raised his head and said, "I am innocent. It is all a frame-up by others. How can Your Majesty believe such a thing?"
The Fourth Prince was furious. He stood up from his throne and shouted, "Insolence! The evidence is irrefutable, yet you still refuse to admit it! Guards! Take Nian Gengyao away!"
