Xueying held the letter, looking at Lingxiu in shock: "What does the Empress mean? How could she...?"
Lingxiu did not answer her question, but said casually, "Consort, now that the Empress's letter has been delivered, this servant will take her leave."
“But…” Xueying was about to speak when Lingxiu interrupted her.
"Consort, the Empress specifically instructed that this letter be read only by you. As for what is written in the letter, this servant does not know. Please do not ask any further questions."
Since things had come to this point, Xueying couldn't stop her. Xueying called to A'luo, "A'luo, take Lingxiu back."
"Yes, Madam."
A Luo pointed towards the door: "Sister Lingxiu, this way please."
After Lingxiu left, she took the letter and read it again. She couldn't believe her eyes. She wished she had seen it wrong. How could the Empress have asked her to do such a thing!
Xueying stood there, looking at the letter the Empress had given her over and over again. When A'luo returned, she saw Xueying still standing there and went over to her, asking in confusion, "Consort, what's wrong?"
"A'Luo, go and bring the brazier over," Xueying instructed A'Luo.
Although A'Luo didn't understand why Xueying wanted her to fetch the brazier, she still went out of the room and brought one back.
"Consort, the brazier has been brought."
A'Luo placed the brazier on the ground. Xueying squatted down and put the letter in the brazier to burn.
A'Luo exclaimed in surprise, "Consort, what are you doing!"
Xueying said solemnly, "I'm saving us. If outsiders see this letter, we'll all die."
A'luo asked Xueying, "Consort, this servant would like to know what the Empress has instructed us to do this time. Why are you in such a difficult position?"
Xueying whispered in A'luo's ear and told her everything written in the letter.
A'Luo was horrified upon hearing this: "The Empress actually ordered you to poison the Prince! That's a capital offense! Consort, you can't do that!"
Xueying gave a bitter smile: "How could I not know that this is a capital offense? How could I not know that I shouldn't do this? But what can I do? I am a member of the Ulanara family. Even if I am married now, I am still a member of the Ulanara family. She is my aunt, the Empress, and the mortal enemy of my husband's mother. Why doesn't my aunt think about me? Why doesn't she think about what I would do if my husband died!"
Xueying collapsed weakly to the ground, and A'luo quickly went over to help her up: "Madam, what's wrong? Get up quickly!"
Xueying was still smiling, but tears streamed down her face as she smiled: "No one has ever asked me if I want to get married. They know perfectly well that my aunt and Consort Xi are at odds, yet they still pushed me into this fire pit. My husband despises me, and my family only wants to use me. I just want to live a peaceful and ordinary life, why is it so difficult!"
Xueying immediately rejected the idea of doing so, but she knew that the Empress was the center of the Ulanara family, and if she did not do as she was told, it would be as if she had no family.
A'luo felt sorry for Xueying and reached out to hug her: "Consort, don't cry. I know you're upset. Be careful not to hurt yourself by crying."
Xueying hugged A'luo back: "A'luo, what should I do? I feel so tired of living, I'd rather be dead."
"Consort, please listen to Her Majesty the Empress and poison the Prince," A'luo said.
