Xueying thought for a moment, then said to A'luo, "You and Zuying take this jar of plums over there. Don't say much, just say that I just happened to come across a kind of plum that can stimulate the appetite. Let her try it. Mother sent a maternity nurse from the palace down, so it would be best if you gave it to her."
A'Luo dared not say anything more, and she and Zu Ying, one carrying the jar and the other holding an oil-paper umbrella, went to Qiushui Pavilion.
Qiushui Pavilion is located at the back of the entire Prince's Mansion. To get there from the east courtyard where Xueying lives, you have to walk through the entire back garden. The two maids walked along, and luckily they had umbrellas to keep them from getting too hot.
After informing the gatekeeper, A'Luo and Zu Ying walked inside and arrived at the main room of Qiushui Pavilion.
When Madam Su heard that Xueying had sent another maid to deliver something, her heart tightened again. After hearing Gao Xiyue's words that day, she had become somewhat wary of Xueying.
Granny Liu, who was sitting to the side, heard the maid's report and said to Madam Su, "This was sent by the concubine, why don't we take a look?"
In fact, when Lanqin was instructing Liu Mama, she mentioned that she should take a good look at Consort Ulanara Xueying.
Madam Su nodded, and the maid then led A'Luo and Zu Ying in.
The two women bowed to Madam Su, and then bowed to Granny Liu who was standing to the side.
"Princess Su, these are plums that our concubine personally pickled. They taste very good and are very appetizing. Our concubine heard that you have not had a good appetite and was very worried, so she used a method she learned in the manor to make them. Please give them a try, Princess." A'luo said.
Granny Liu nodded and said to Madam Su, "Since it was sent by the concubine, it's a token of her affection. Why don't you try it, Princess?"
Madam Su nodded and told her maid, Mei Ruo, to fetch a few.
Mei Ruo carried a small plate, took a few plums from the jar, and presented them to Madam Su. Granny Liu looked at the plums, picked one up first, and popped it into her mouth.
"Princess, the taste is indeed tangy and delicious. You should try it!" Granny Liu said with a smile. She had clearly seen the look in Madam Su's eyes earlier; she was somewhat worried about the concubine. In fact, if Madam Ulanara really wanted to harm someone, she would never have sent someone to deliver food so openly. Otherwise, she would have lost her mind, especially since she was no longer valued by the Prince in the mansion.
Seeing that Granny Liu had eaten one and was fine, Madam Su then took one and put it in her mouth.
It must be said that these plums were truly delicious; Su immediately felt her mouth water and the lingering fragrance was delightful.
"The two young ladies must be tired from their journey. Mei Ruo, go and get some fruit and tea for them to quench their thirst," Madam Su said with a smile. She wasn't usually the petty type, but being pregnant, she was being extra careful. Seeing that A Luo and Zu Ying were covered in sweat from their sweaty foreheads, she immediately felt a little guilty.
A'luo and Zuying followed Meiruo downstairs for tea, and the jar of plums was placed on the tea table in front of Su Shi and Granny Liu.
“The concubine is very thoughtful, what do you think, Princess?” said Granny Liu.
"Yes, I think the concubine is a very nice person, but..." Lady Su hesitated before continuing.
"Is the princess afraid of offending the Fujin?" Granny Liu knew perfectly well.
"I am but a lowly concubine, utterly insignificant in this household. I only wish to live a peaceful life," Madam Su said cautiously. She knew full well that Granny Liu was the spy of Consort Xi in the palace, and that her purpose in saying these words was to have Granny Liu take them back to Consort Xi.
“The princess’s thoughts are perfectly normal, this old servant understands,” said Granny Liu.
