When Su arrived at the East Courtyard, she found Xueying just about to leave.
"Consort, where are you going?" Madam Su asked hurriedly.
When Xueying saw that the person who came was Su Shi, she was startled, but her expression quickly turned to joy.
“I was keeping track of the time and figured you were almost done eating the plums, so I was worried you might be craving some. I was just about to go and bring you some more, but you came all by yourself.” Hearing that Xueying was going to bring her plums, Su felt a warm feeling in her heart.
“These past few days, I’ve been cooped up in my room, and I was thinking of coming to see you, and having a chat and a walk with the concubine,” said Madam Su.
Xueying felt a warmth in her heart. She had never had any friends in the manor. Fucha Mingyu always regarded her as a thorn in her side, and Gao Shi did not want to associate with her. Only Su Shi cared about her.
"Let's take a walk in the back garden. The flowers are in bloom these days, and it's very beautiful there." Xueying said, urging Su Shi to walk ahead, with Xiao Huan and A Luo following behind.
"What have you been up to these past few days, Consort? You haven't come to my place for several days now. I miss you terribly," said Madam Su.
These past few days, Gao hasn't come to see her either, and Su is not only feeling annoyed, but also making wild guesses.
"I've been learning needlework these past few days, so I haven't had time to visit you. I also forgot to send word. If you're bored or lonely, feel free to come over anytime," Xueying said.
"Women's work? I didn't expect that the concubine could do needlework. What is she embroidering?" Madam Su suddenly became very interested in Xueying's needlework skills. Seeing Xueying blush and stammer without speaking, Madam Su guessed correctly, "Could it be mandarin ducks?" Xueying nodded slightly. Xueying was both shy and embarrassed when she was guessed correctly, after all, everyone knew that Hongli did not favor her.
Observing Xueying's changing expression, Su comforted her, saying, "What's there to be ashamed of! Just do what you want to do and don't worry about anything else. Whether you fall in love with someone or not is not something you can control. If it were that easy, there wouldn't be so many people who are troubled and hurt by love."
Su's words suddenly cleared up the doubts I had about Hongli for so long. Love is love, why suppress yourself?
The two rested in the garden pavilion after walking around for a while. Xueying asked Alu to bring out the plums that had been prepared. "Try them, they taste just as good as before."
Su picked one up and tasted it. The sour juice burst in her mouth, stimulating her taste buds. "Mmm, it tastes even better than before. It's delicious!"
Receiving praise from Su, Xueying smiled. She had picked out all the plums herself, and it seemed her efforts had paid off.
"By the way, I heard that the Prince has been doting on Consort Xing more and more lately. She is really the luckiest among us. I'm even a little jealous," said Madam Su.
Xueying knew that Su Shi had told her this on purpose to see her reaction.
Xueying smiled faintly, "The Prince has always been devoted to his wife. No one else can match his deep affection."
Seeing Xueying's calm and composed demeanor, Madam Su couldn't help but admire her and grew to like her even more.
"Xueying, do you know why I always like to be with you? Your gentle and refined character is what I admire most. It's something many people lack, but you have it. Your attitude of being indifferent to worldly affairs and not competing with others is something many people can't learn."
Xueying was surprised; she hadn't expected the Su family to have such a high opinion of her.
"So, I hope you don't change, and don't lose your true self because of anyone." This was Su's true feeling; she truly loved Xueying.
