A few days later, Madam Su's emotions stabilized. She thought about going to Langyue Pavilion to see Madam Gao. Although what Granny Liu said made sense, she couldn't just let go of her friendship with Madam Gao. She didn't want to lose a friend like that. Perhaps she should try to win her back.
Madam Su arrived at Langyue Pavilion with her maid, only to find the place somewhat unfamiliar; it had truly been a long time since she had visited Langyue Pavilion.
When Madam Gao saw Madam Su arrive at Langyue Pavilion with her large pregnant belly, she was somewhat surprised, but mostly pleased. She used to always be the one visiting Madam Su; now it was her turn to come and see her.
Madam Gao welcomed Madam Su into the house. "Sister Su, what brings you here?" Madam Gao's tone was not as gentle as before, but rather revealed her arrogance.
Su was displeased, but she could only be angry inwardly. She had come to reconcile with her, and she couldn't afford to cause any more trouble over other things.
"I haven't seen my sister in a long time, so I thought I'd come and see you!" Madam Su said with a smile. Her purpose in coming was to resolve the misunderstanding between her and Madam Gao.
Seeing that Su was speaking to her so calmly, Gao's tone softened. "So it's because you missed me. Please sit down!" Gao glanced at Su's protruding belly, feeling a pang of sadness. The words of the First Consort echoed in her ears. "You and Su entered the palace at the same time... If she gives birth to a boy, I'm afraid the position of Second Consort will surely be hers."
Madam Gao had her servants prepare some tea and snacks. Madam Su noticed that the pastries here were no longer the amount allotted to a princess, which made her feel somewhat uncomfortable. She openly said that she had also halved her portion, even though the tea and pastries here were clearly much better.
"I feel that you have lost a lot of weight since I last saw you a few days ago." After hearing Fucha Mingyu's words, Madam Gao reduced the expenses of the concubine, herself, and some of the maids and housekeepers in the mansion.
Madam Su hadn't originally planned to talk about this, but since Madam Gao asked, Madam Su couldn't hold back and said, "Whether you've lost weight or not isn't important. What I've heard is that you've started managing the household's accounts."
Just then, the tea arrived, and the maid poured it into the cups. Madam Su noticed that the teaware and jewelry used by Madam Gao were better than those in her own household.
Lady Gao had seen through Lady Su's behavior and no longer wanted to hide it, so she said, "A few days ago, the principal wife asked me to help her manage some of the household accounts. She said that division of labor and cooperation would be more conducive to the management of the household."
Lady Gao was embarrassed to say that this was a benefit she deserved because she was now on the same side as the principal wife.
Upon hearing Gao's words, Madam Su asked her own question, "Sister, when did you become so close to the First Princess Consort?"
Su was indeed very curious, and before she knew it, Gao had left her and gone to the side of the principal wife.
Hearing this, Gao was somewhat displeased. If Su hadn't been so close to Ulanara Xueying, she wouldn't have become sisters with the principal wife. But now it was all good; she had received so many benefits from her and was using the best things. In that case, she should thank Su.
“There’s no such thing as being close or not. Once we’re in the Prince’s mansion, we’re all sisters. If the First Princess asks me for help, I’ll naturally go and help her.” As she said this, Lady Gao raised the corners of her mouth. “The First Princess treats people quite well. She doesn’t fear the Princess and even let me manage things.”
