The next day, Lanqin began working on the princesses' affairs. The emperor ordered the relevant personnel from the Ministry of Revenue to send the resumes of the officials in court to Changchun Palace. Lanqin saw a large stack of books and thought that she would be busy for a while.
Fourth Prince knew that Lanqin needed a quiet environment, so he hadn't bothered her for the past few days. Lanqin thought that a prince's daughter should at least be matched with an official of the fourth rank or above. Lanqin looked around and found that most of the officials were already married, or they were unmarried but their statuses were incompatible.
Lanqin was most afraid of things that were plentiful, messy, and related to books. She lay on the table, scratching her hair, which was already in a mess. Her maid Chunxi left.
"Your Majesty, would you like to rest for a while? We can do it later!" Chunxi said.
Lanqin struggled to lift her head off the table, looking blankly at Chunxi. "No, I have to get this sorted out in the next few days, otherwise the Emperor will be affected."
As she spoke, Lanqin opened the booklet, wondering if the nephews and sons of those officials who were to be married off were suitable. Lanqin noticed the name Li Sheng, and she seemed to have a vague impression of this name.
Li Sheng, Li Sheng, that's right, Lanqin remembered hearing this name from Hongli. He seemed to be the son of the Minister of Rites. Hongli seemed to have a good impression of him; this child should be a good candidate for a son-in-law.
Lanqin circled Li Sheng's name with her pen; Li Sheng could be added to the pending list. She needed to find Hongli to learn about this man's character and, incidentally, whether he already had someone he liked. She didn't want to play matchmaker; although the three princesses weren't her biological children, she was responsible for their marriages. This concerned the Emperor's reputation.
Lanqin perked up, her slender fingers flipping through the booklet in front of her, looking at the various names and official titles, and then circling the names she decided could consider.
"Chunxi, go and call Hongli over. He should be taking his lunch break right now." After circling several names, Lanqin decided to first find out about these people's character and family background from Hongli.
Chunxi nodded in agreement and left Changchun Palace to find Hongli.
A short while later, Hongli returned with Chunxi.
"Hongli, have you ever heard of Ye Ci?" Lanqin gestured to the palace maid Lianqiu to bring Hongli a bowl of ice. With Fudong's help, Hongli first washed his hands and face, and then sat down opposite Lanqin.
"Hongli, do you know Ye Ming's eldest son, Ye Ci? He's eighteen now, the age for marriage. What kind of person is he?" Lanqin asked.
Upon hearing the name, Hongli thought for a moment and said, "Mother, I have never met this person, but I have heard his name."
“Oh? Tell me about it…” Lanqin said.
"Ye Ci is the eldest son of General Ye Ming. It is said that he was already fighting alongside his father on the battlefield when he was only fourteen years old, and he has made countless military achievements. Not only that, I also heard that he is handsome and dashing, and many young ladies want to marry him!"
Hearing Hongli say this, Lanqin wanted to know more about him, "Then what is his character like?"
"Although Ye Ci is very famous, I've heard that he's not interested in women and has excellent character. He said he'll only marry one good wife in the future," Hongli said, giving a thumbs up.
“Excellent, just what I wanted,” Lanqin couldn’t help but say.
