"Sister Su!" Gao walked towards Su and her son and saw them standing there playing a game of catching butterflies.
"Xi Yue." Madam Su was watching with a warm expression as her maid helped Yong Zhang swat at the small moths flying on the grass when she heard someone call out from behind. She turned around and saw Gao Xi Yue.
“Yongzhang is so big now, he can walk now, right?” Gao said as she walked to Su’s side.
"She's not even a year old yet, and the maids have to prop her up as she takes a few shaky steps on the ground. Little sister, it's been so long since I've seen you. Why don't you come over and talk to me?" said Madam Su. Although they lived in the same mansion, Madam Gao was busy managing various affairs of the mansion, and the two of them didn't see each other very often.
“I’m not as fortunate as my sister, who gave birth to a prince and can focus on raising him. I’m destined to be a hard-working girl,” Gao sighed.
“Sister, you’ve been to the Fujin’s place, haven’t you? The Fujin is three months pregnant now, and things are finally settled,” said Madam Su.
“Yes, the three-month danger period is over, so the eldest son is safe now. But I have even more things to deal with. Look, there’s the Laba Festival, and winter is just around the corner. We need to prepare winter clothes for all the servants and masters in the manor,” Gao Xiyue said.
"My sister has worked so hard. If there's anything I can do to help you, please don't hesitate to ask." Madam Su genuinely wanted to share some of the burden with Madam Gao.
"Thank you for your kindness, elder sister. If there is anything I need, I will certainly trouble you," Gao said, declining the offer. She was inherently power-hungry, and with her heart set on becoming a concubine, her feelings for Su were no longer the same as before.
"Sister, I wonder how the Prince is doing in the Northwest. It's truly worrying," said Madam Su. Although her relationship with Hongli wasn't as strong as Mingyue's or Xueying's, she had still borne him a child and was very concerned about him.
"Oh, I didn't want to think about it if you didn't bring it up. But now that you've mentioned it, my heart is in turmoil. The battlefield is no place to joke around. Actually, I envy the concubine, being able to stay by the Prince's side. Back then..." Gao Xiyue thought of her hesitation back then, perhaps feeling a little regretful. But there's no going back in this world.
"I hope that Prince and Consort are safe and sound," Lady Su murmured, "Amitabha."
The two chatted for a few more minutes before parting ways.
Xiao Mu had been keeping the maid company while playing with Yongzhang, but she had been paying close attention to every word that Lady Gao and her mistress said. The concubine had specifically instructed her to keep a close eye on Lady Su and Yongzhang.
“Princess, the young prince is tired. Why don’t we go back too?” Xiao Mu said.
"Yes, come here, Yongzhang, let your mother hug you. Let's go back now," said Madam Su.
Madam Su carried the child, followed by three maids, and returned to Qiushui Pavilion.
Madam Gao also returned to Langyue Pavilion. Besides worrying about matters within the household, she was also concerned about her father, Gao Bin. Recently, Gao Xiyue received a letter from her father.
In the letter, Gao Bin complained to her about his unsuccessful career and hoped that his daughter's status as Princess Hongli could help him find some connections in the capital. After receiving her father Gao Bin's letter, Gao Xiyue began to think about it. Today, she went to curry favor with the Princess Consort, which was actually just a test, but she didn't expect to be rebuffed.
