"Mrs. Su, Mrs. Gao, you are very kind." Hongli looked at them, praised them a few times, and then told everyone to go back. He then helped Mingyu back to the main courtyard.
Xueying watched the two figures disappear from sight before calling out Pichu's name.
“Here!” Pichu replied.
Xueying walked ahead, with Pichu following behind. She said casually, "From now on, you'll follow me and be responsible for guarding the safety of the East Courtyard."
As the two passed by, Gao looked at Pichu's rather striking features and exclaimed in surprise, "Sister Xueying, why did you bring a foreigner back to the Prince's mansion?"
Xueying glanced at her, and seeing that she was just curious, she said, "So what if he's a foreigner? From now on, he's my servant."
“Can this foreigner be trusted? If he has bad intentions and enters the Prince’s mansion, he will cause trouble for our Prince…” Gao’s eyes turned strange.
“He was brought back with the Prince’s permission, so there’s no need for you to worry, sister,” Xueying said.
Ignoring Gao's increasingly strange gaze, Xueying continued forward, passing by Su, who bowed to her.
Xueying nodded, but she didn't care about either the Gao family or the Su family, nor did she care about their attitude towards her. What she truly cared about was Mingyu, who always managed to capture Hongli's attention.
Now that Mingyu is pregnant, I'm afraid I'll be out of favor for quite some time.
Xueying sighed softly, earning a puzzled look from Pichu.
Xueying wanted to confide in him, but then she thought, how much can a man understand the thoughts of a woman in the backyard?
"Fine, as long as you can defend my East Courtyard perfectly, I'll be satisfied," Xueying said to Piqiu.
Pichu nodded, and Xueying led him, Alu, and the others to the East Courtyard.
Hongli helped Mingyu back to the main courtyard without relying on anyone else, which shows how much he doted on her.
Mingyu hadn't seen Hongli for many days, and now she couldn't help but try to trace his outline with her eyes. Hongli would occasionally meet her gaze, at which point Mingyu would shyly look away. But once Hongli stopped looking at her, she would start acting the same way again.
Hongli said, "Since you want to see, then look openly. We are husband and wife. Do you think I would eat you?"
Before Hongli could finish speaking, Mingyu interrupted, "That's not it! Your Majesty, I just..."
"I know you miss me so much," Hongli said, stopping his teasing.
He placed his hand on Mingyu's belly and gently stroked it back and forth: "Is the baby still peaceful?"
"You just touched the child, don't you know?" Mingyu, having been teased by Hongli, wanted to tease him in return. "The child is fine, but..."
"Just what?" Hongli took the bait as expected.
Mingyu feigned sadness, looking at Hongli with a distressed expression and saying, "But does Your Majesty only care about the child and not about me at all?"
As she spoke, Mingyu turned away, as if she were throwing a tantrum.
When Hongli heard that pregnant women often acted childishly, and that the imperial physician had said that they should be coaxed gently at such times, he shook his head helplessly and said to Mingyu, "Of course I care about you."
"I don't believe it," Mingyu said, still with her back to him.
Hongli asked, "What would it take for you to believe me?"
"If Your Majesty could do something to make me happy..." Mingyu had a little thought in her mind.
