As soon as Hongzhou finished speaking, the already quiet room became even quieter.
Hongzhou wasn't sure if his desire to redeem Qingluo from Hongxiu Tower stemmed from pity for her past help, or from some other reason. Even he himself began to doubt his motives upon hearing this. Qingluo was a courtesan; if she remained at Hongxiu Tower, she would have a place to stay. But if he redeemed her, how would she survive? Thinking this way, the only option seemed to be bringing her back to his residence. But how could he face Wukuzha's family if he did that?
Qingluo wondered to herself why she hadn't redeemed herself. Several wealthy merchants had offered to buy her off and take her as a concubine, but she had refused them all. It wasn't until she saw the Fifth Prince before her that her heartstrings were touched. He was like a gentle spring breeze caressing the grass, tender and delicate. Qingluo understood then that the reason she hadn't wanted to be redeemed by those high-ranking officials was because she didn't love them. Since she didn't like them, it was better to stay in the brothel; at least she wouldn't have to endure the doctor's wrath. Being a concubine had always been difficult. But of course, she couldn't say these words to Hongzhou.
The mountain has trees, and the trees have no branches; I love you, but you do not know.
Seeing Hongzhou ask this, Qingluo, despite having a thousand words to say, couldn't utter a sound. So she quietly looked at Hongzhou, pretending he hadn't asked, or perhaps waiting for him to ask again. Only then could she be sure that he cared about her. In fact, when she heard Hongzhou ask her again why she wouldn't go, she had already made up her mind to go with him.
But the feelings that have developed over time are not so easily discussed openly.
Seeing that Qingluo remained silent, Hongzhou assumed she was willingly belittling herself, and he couldn't help but feel a little angry. His previous enthusiasm turned into indifference, and the atmosphere became somewhat awkward. Hongzhou coldly said, "I helped Young Master He in this matter, consider it repaying a favor to you. From now on, we owe each other nothing."
After speaking, Qingluo's earlier smugness vanished instantly, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her fervent heart. Besides feeling cold, she even felt a hint of resentment. "That's right, what could a prince like you possibly have to do with a courtesan like me?" With that, Qingluo slammed her hand on the table, stood up, and turned to leave.
Finally, as if remembering something, Qingluo turned back to look at Hongzhou and said rather irritably, "Also, the fee for today's private event was personally promised by Prince. Prince, please remember to send someone to deliver the silver to Hongxiu Tower." Then she left without looking back.
Seeing Qingluo turn around, Hongzhou immediately looked up at her as well, his expression even showing some expectation. He had thought Qingluo wanted something, but it turned out she just wanted him to remember to send the money to Hongxiu Tower. This time, Hongzhou was even angrier.
They are truly unpredictable and moody.
Qingluo has always been this impulsive and fiery. She had actually already decided to be nicer to Hongzhou; if he just showed a little more patience, she would pour out all her worries. But who would have thought that that blockhead would say something like that? It was enough to drive her crazy! But, you want to anger me? I'll make you angry first. That's Qingluo's principle.
Qingluo called to Ke'er and walked away without looking back. This time, it was Hongzhou's turn to be completely baffled.
