After composing herself, Lady Zhaojia returned to the Thirteenth Prince's room. She saw him pick up a book again and finish all the medicine on the table. Lady Zhaojia smiled and said to the Thirteenth Prince, "Your Highness, it's getting late. You should rest. You're just feeling better, so you mustn't overexert yourself."
Thirteen's gaze finally shifted from the book to Lady Zhaojia. Seeing the weariness in her eyes, he stood up, walked to her side, and took her hand, saying, "How did you end up like this? Even if I... you must take care of your health. Don't make me worry next time."
"I understand, Your Highness. Please don't make me live in fear anymore."
The two tidied up and went back to their dormitory to sleep fully clothed.
In the middle of the night, Thirteen woke up from a nightmare, and Lady Zhaojia also woke up, wiping the prince's cold sweat with her sleeve.
Thirteen hugged Zhaojia tightly.
In this dream, he knew that his life was nearing its end. His physical condition improved, like the calm before a storm, and his heart sank.
“Fujin…” Thirteen said.
“Your Highness, I am here,” said Lady Zhaojia.
"Fujin..." Thirteen murmured, holding Lady Zhaojia in his arms.
"Your Highness, I am here." Zhao Jia's tears couldn't help but fall down her face, dripping onto Thirteen's back, making Thirteen feel as if he were being burned.
He cupped Zhao Jia's face in his hands. Her face was no longer as delicate as before, but it still made him feel as if she were a fairy.
Thirteen, if there is an afterlife, I will definitely stay with you until we grow old. Lady Zhaojia cried and said, "I don't want an afterlife, I only want Your Highness to stay with me in this life." Thirteen smiled bitterly, "I have no choice."
Lady Zhaojia couldn't resist her greed and said, "How about I accompany Your Highness on a stroll? Your Highness has devoted your entire life to the court; surely you won't even spend your last few months with me?"
Thirteen felt guilty towards Lady Zhaojia, but was moved by her words, so he said, "As soon as it's light, I will write a letter of resignation to the Emperor."
For the first time in days, Zhao Jia showed a genuine smile.
It was already dawn. Zhao Jia and Shisan, wearing cloaks, climbed onto the roof to watch the sunrise. As the sun slowly rose, all the gloom in their hearts gradually dissipated.
As the sun rose high in the sky, Thirteen brought Lady Zhaojia to the study. Lady Zhaojia ground ink for him, and Thirteen picked up his pen to write a letter of resignation. In the letter, he said that he wanted to take advantage of his last moments to travel around the great country with Lady Zhaojia on behalf of the Fourth Prince. He could no longer work for the Fourth Prince and wanted to accompany his wife to find a secluded place to live quietly for a while.
Fourth Master agreed. Lanqin was right beside him at the time. When she saw the letter, she lamented the fickleness of fate and envied Thirteen and Zhaojia's carefree attitude.
Fourth Prince knew that Thirteenth Prince did not have much time left, and the imperial physicians had done their best, but he still sent two imperial physicians to accompany him, in order to buy him some time.
So, Thirteen took Lady Zhaojia out.
After replying to the letter, Fourth Master turned around and hugged Lanqin, who was still working on her.
Lanqin smiled and said, "Your Majesty, you should be happy."
The Fourth Prince said, "I'm happy for him. But I also envy them."
Lanqin was taken aback by the gentle words of the emperor, who was above all others. But the Fourth Prince had already recovered and seemed unfazed. Lanqin hesitated, unsure whether to tell the Fourth Prince about her time travel.
